Chapter 107: Total Annihilation

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 783 words

Boom!!!

Under the impact of the wave, the silver shield stood like a reef in the ocean, without the slightest tremor.

By the time the of the Swamp attack passed, Pozain was safe and sound behind the shield.

Seeing this, Leilin's pupils contracted slightly.

"Defensive magical item!"

As a scion of one of the Academy's three great families, Pozain actually possessed a defensive-type magical item.

Leilin knew all too well how troublesome such items were, because he himself carried a defensive artifact — the Pendant of the Fallen Star. Once the Pendant's defense activated, among apprentices, Leilin was completely invincible!

The two Third-rank Apprentices across from them were clearly rattled by Pozain's bold move, freezing in place for a brief moment.

In particular, the apprentice who had signed the contract with the clutched a silver whistle tightly in his hand, his face pale with disbelief.

After unleashing the Wrath of the Swamp attack, the enormous Moonlight Mayfly also appeared greatly depleted, circling in midair without charging down again.

"The Moonlight Mayfly can use its spell attack only once per day. After that, it needs over twenty hours to prepare and will also enter a period of weakness!" the Chip faithfully reported.

"Perfect opportunity!" Leilin's eyes lit up as he flung two potions — one red, one purple — into the air.

Boom!!! A burst of flame and a cloud of purple smoke exploded directly on the Moonlight Mayfly's surface.

The massive wave engulfed the Moonlight Mayfly entirely, and from within the red-purple magical glow, its pitiful shrieks could be heard.

When the potions' magical effects faded, the Moonlight Mayfly in midair looked utterly wretched — both claws had been mostly severed, its wings were riddled with holes, and it could no longer sustain its flight, steadily losing altitude as if trying to land on the ground.

"You wretched beast! How dare you..."

Watching the Moonlight Mayfly drift closer and closer to the ground, Pozain roared. The silver shield before him radiated a milky-white glow.

The solid shield melted away in the light, the silvery liquid coiling around Pozain's hands before solidifying into a gleaming greatsword.

"HAA!!!"

Pozain raised the sword overhead with both hands and leaped, delivering a devastating slash!!!

Pfft!!!

The gleaming silver arc sliced cleanly through the thrashing Moonlight Mayfly's neck, leaving a thin line of blood where the blade had passed.

The Moonlight Mayfly's massive head was cleaved clean off, spraying a torrent of dark purple liquid.

A single decapitating strike!!! The colossal Moonlight Mayfly had its head severed with just one blow from Pozain.

"It even has a secondary transformation function! Truly an incredible magical item — though of course, Pozain's own strength is the key!" Leilin murmured to himself in admiration.

"Oh, no!!!" The instant the Moonlight Mayfly was decapitated, its apprentice let out a scream of utter terror.

And as the fallen head's eyes on the ground gradually dimmed, the apprentice's face went white, and wrinkles began spreading across his entire body.

"So he signed a life contract... That explains why he didn't seem particularly strong yet still commanded the Moonlight Mayfly's loyalty..." Leilin sighed. "A pity — his life force is linked to the contracted creature. Once the creature dies, the host cannot escape death either!"

By the time the flame in the Moonlight Mayfly's golden-yellow eyes completely extinguished, the apprentice was gasping, having transformed entirely into a white-haired old man, before collapsing to the ground, utterly devoid of life.

"Ahh!"

The last remaining apprentice screamed and immediately turned to flee.

At the same time, he flung a feather into the air. A flash of black light, and the feather transformed into a black night hawk, soaring into the sky.

"A magical messenger — stop it!" Jiamen pointed, and several vines lashed out.

"Arrow spell!" Red-haired Xiaya shouted, firing several bright silver arrows from his hand at the night hawk.

"Kee-kee!!!" The night hawk screeched, beating its wings and tracing a graceful arc through the air to dodge the green vines.

Then, with wings as sharp as blades, it deflected several arrows back with a single sweep.

"Another magical creature!"

Pozain blurted in shock.

"We can't let it get away with a report, or we'll be in a terrible position!"

Leilin's eyes flashed. The guard on his arm extended and transformed into a black longbow.

"Chip! Calculate wind speed, humidity, compute trajectory..."

Whoosh!!! The black arrow split the sky like lightning, striking the night hawk's right wing dead on.

The night hawk let out a mournful cry and plummeted straight down.

"Nice shot!" Pozain shouted in delight, surging forward with a burst of speed, his gleaming silver greatsword sweeping through the air.
