"Alas." Blood Pu Ancestor let out a soft sigh. "I have been restless all day. This battle — we really shouldn't have agreed to it. But we were pressured by everyone and had no choice but to go along. I knew it all along — the Celestial Demon lineage has been brewing some foul scheme. Now that the Celestial Demon clan stands dominant, we can only obediently follow their lead."
"Follow their lead?" Golden Roar Ancestor's breathing quickened, clearly struggling to suppress his emotions.
"On what grounds should we follow them?" Golden Roar Ancestor pressed.
"Are you suggesting we still have the ability to resist?" Blood Pu Ancestor replied with cool indifference.
"We may not be able to resist, but we can simply refuse to cooperate, can't we? I believe the other demon lineages are all quite dissatisfied right now. The Giant Demon clan, the Beast Demon clan, the Wood Demon clan, the Yin Demon clan — how many of them can be in good spirits? The ones with the least grievance against the Celestial Demon clan are probably only the Shadow Demon clan, along with the Fire Demon and Wing Demon clans."
"Heh heh, so what? Are you going to start a rebellion?" Blood Pu Ancestor chuckled.
Golden Roar Ancestor had been worked up, but seeing Blood Pu Ancestor's unhurried demeanor, he relaxed as well and broke into an idle smile. Speaking as if to himself, he said, "What am I even getting worked up about? I'm a lone commander with no troops now — serving under anyone is just earning a meal. "Who said the blood catastrophe would necessarily come from the humans?" Blood Pu Ancestor said flatly.
Golden Roar Ancestor's gaze deepened as he fixed his eyes on Blood Pu Ancestor, his expression laden with meaning. "What exactly do you mean by that, fellow Daoist?"
"Heh heh, Old Jin, we're both sensible people — no need to play the fool when you know perfectly well. If you want to have a heart-to-heart conversation, then drop the act. Otherwise, you're free to leave right now."
Golden Roar Ancestor paused briefly, then broke into a laugh.
"Fine. You're implying the Celestial Demon clan, aren't you? No matter how overbearing they become, they wouldn't move against us, would they? What would they gain by killing us? Do they think those few old ancestors of the Celestial Demon clan alone can conquer the Divine Abyss Continent? Keep dreaming!"
Blood Pu Ancestor gazed deeply at Golden Roar Ancestor for a long while before letting out a soft sigh and murmuring, "So there really are certain secrets you're not aware of, after all?"
