It had to be said — the name
The Celestial Demon Ancestor brooded in silence for a long while, his gaze sweeping with dark intensity across each of the Divine Path Ancestors seated before him. At present, of the Ten Demon Lineages, only the Celestial Demon lineage still had all seven of its Ancestors intact. Every other lineage had already suffered catastrophic losses.
Beyond the seven Celestial Demon Ancestors, the remaining nine lineages combined could muster barely twenty-odd Divine Path Ancestors — fewer than thirty in total.
The losses were nothing short of devastating.
The Golden Demon lineage had come closest to total annihilation. At this point, the Golden Demon lineage had nothing left but a small contingent of Golden Demon cultivators who had been brought along from the Barbaric Lands, and a single survivor — Ancestor Golden Howl.
Even that small group had only survived because they had previously been stationed in the Barbaric Lands or dispatched to other territories on separate missions, and had not followed the main force into battle.
Otherwise, it was entirely likely that not a single one of them would have been left alive.
The Golden Demon lineage could be called the line that had suffered the heaviest losses. Driven by an eag to earn merit, the Golden Demon lineage had essentially committed its entire strength, spearheading the advance into the Myriad Abyss Island.
But precisely because of that, their casualties had been the worst.
Second only to the Golden Demon lineage in terms of losses was the Wood Demon lineage. To date, not a single Wood Demon cultivator had escaped from the
Although a contingent of the Wood Demon lineage still remained in the Barbaric Lands, with only a single Divine Path cultivator to lead them, the Wood Demon lineage had clearly lost any say within the Ten Demon Lineages.
The Beast Demon lineage and the Giant Demon lineage had also suffered grievous losses, their combat strength reduced to roughly a third.
If one were to speak of the lineage with the smallest losses, that would be the Blood Demon lineage.
The Blood Demon lineage had not entered the Myriad Abyss Island, and therefore had sustained zero casualties in the battle there.
Close behind were the Yin Demon lineage. The Yin Demon lineage had likewise not participated in the battle at Myriad Abyss Island, so their losses were also minimal — apart from Ancestor Stone Fiend, who had been sealed within the human territories, the Yin Demon lineage was virtually unscathed.
The Shadow Demon lineage had fared somewhat worse. They too had lost a Divine Path Ancestor — Ancestor Wicked Shadow had been sealed within the human territories and subsequently killed by Jiang Chen.
Moreover, Ancestor
As for the Fire Demon lineage and the Winged Demon lineage, their main forces had not been decimated. However, every Divine Path Ancestor they had sent into Myriad Abyss Island had fallen.
There was no question that this constituted a substantial blow.
In other words, apart from the Celestial Demon lineage and the Blood Demon lineage, both of which had preserved their strength in good order, every other lineage had suffered enormous losses.
The Celestial Demon Ancestor spoke in a heavy tone: "It was my miscalculation. I underestimated the rising talents of the human race, and this calamity is the result. I never imagined that even in the ancient war, our demon race had never suffered casualties this severe — and yet a single wet-behind-the-ears youth from the younger generation has inflicted losses upon us that beggar belief. When things go against all reason, something sinister must be at work. Go — summon every demon cultivator who has laid eyes on this man, regardless of cultivation level. I want to know everything there is to know about his combat capabilities. Leave nothing out!"
It was clear that the Celestial Demon Ancestor had developed a deep wariness. He had already realized that this young man posed a genuine threat to the very foundation of the demon race.
In truth, not many cultivators had actually encountered Jiang Chen in person, but there were still a handful of stragglers and survivors. Of course, Ancestor Golden Howl counted among them — though, from beginning to end, Ancestor Golden Howl had never once fought a proper, head-on battle against Jiang Chen. He had been led on a merry chase across the battlefield, played like a fiddle from start to finish by Jiang Chen.
