Chapter 2133: The Chosen One

Indeed, if he could inherit the lineage of the Glazed King City, these ancient reserves would truly appear to have been left behind precisely for him.

As the one who stood to benefit most, what cause did he have to complain?

In that situation, any decision required a measure of courage. Great Sovereign and the others had made their choice, and at the very least it had preserved a trump card for the human domain — far better than letting their descendants squander everything.

At the thought of this, clarity flooded Jiang Chen's mind. All the doubts, all the second-guessing, dissipated like mist. In an instant, his thoughts became perfectly unobstructed.

In circumstances like those, every decision had been agonizing. Each one could tip the scales of the entire human domain's destiny.

Not letting the human domain tear itself apart and burn through its reserves — not letting it wither and die through infighting — that decision had been wise. It had been correct.

"Heh heh, young man, if you have any more questions, now's the time to ask while I'm in a good mood," Xia Tianze said with a laugh.

Jiang Chen shrugged. "I've asked just about everything I wanted to know. As for the rest, I can look into it slowly in the future."

Xia Tianze chuckled. "Well, you've had your turn asking. Surely it's my turn now?"

"You have questions for me too?" Jiang Chen said, surprised.

"Of course I do. You peppered me with a whole barrage of questions — the least you can do is let me ask a few. Besides, I am the guardian of this Sixth Palace, and you are the challenger. You haven't passed the assessment yet. Surely I'm allowed to ask you a thing or two?" Xia Tianze said, affecting a tone of exasperation.

Jiang Chen couldn't help but laugh. "Very well, Senior. Ask whatever you'd like."

"Before you entered the Sixth Palace, you knew none of these secrets, correct?"

"That's right," Jiang Chen said honestly.

"Yet even knowing none of this, with the demonic calamity looming, were you not filled with dread? Or did you simply not understand how powerful the demon race truly is?"

"In the beginning, I truly did not know the full extent of their strength. However, after clashing with them several times, I've gained a general understanding."

"Oh? You've actually fought the demons? Tell me more."

Jiang Chen had faced the demon race more than once — the Blood Sun Demon Emperor, the Celestial Demon Lord, and the Elder Guangdu, ancestor of the demonkin lineage.

He proceeded to give a concise account of all three encounters.

"My, my — to think you actually crossed swords with the Celestial Demon Lord, and that he really was sealed away by the Sacred One Sect. Good. The Sacred One Sect didn't disappoint everyone in the end. But this Elder Guangdu — Mid-stage Divine Path, you say? Was he truly the ancestor of the demonkin lineage?"

Though Xia Tianze knew a great deal about the demon race, not every detail was within his grasp.

"Whether he is truly the ancestor of the demonkin lineage, I cannot say for certain. But I am positive that Elder Guangdu is a Mid-stage Divine Path demonkin," Jiang Chen said firmly.

"Then it very well may be him. In the ancient era, many Divine Path ancestors of the demon race appeared, though not all of them showed up in the human domain. The demonkin lineage did appear in the human domain during those times, but I've never heard of any news of a Divine Path ancestor perishing there. Perhaps he was truly wreaking havoc in the Myriad Abyss Island? But wasn't Myriad Abyss Island supposed to be a sanctuary from ancient times, one the demons had never even extended their claws into?"
