Within that dense mist, the Yellow-Browed Cultivator and his companions found their vision similarly restricted.
But the Yellow-Browed Cultivator's cultivation was evidently superior to everyone else on the scene. His gaze was locked firmly on that stretch of sea, his divine sense spreading outward as he observed every unusual movement on its surface.
When the others noticed the Yellow-Browed Cultivator's expression suddenly change, they all felt a vague sense of unease. Following his line of sight, they gazed into the distance.
Amidst the endless mist, beyond the vast swathes of fog, they seemed to faintly make out what looked like a wave sweeping across the sea.
"What is that?" someone asked curiously.
"It looks like a wave, but there's something strange about it. They say no wind means no waves, and when waves do form, they come in sets. This one seems to be all by itself."
The Yellow-Browed Cultivator said nothing. He watched for another moment, then spoke in a low, grave voice: "Everyone, stay sharp. There may be something hidden in there."
The group's attitude toward the Yellow-Browed Cultivator had become one of instinctive resistance, and they responded with distracted nonchalance.
One person even spoke up openly: "It's just a wave. At best, it's just a wave that won't stir up much trouble. At worst, it's some sea creature of unknown power that just happened to pass through this area."
But the Yellow-Browed Cultivator was far less optimistic. His voice came out hoarse: "The momentum behind that wave is definitely not the work of an ordinary sea creature. If it is a creature, it has to be a Divine Dao-level sea entity. That kind of force is absolutely beyond what any Celestial-tier cultivator could produce."
"Heh, even if it were a Divine Dao sea creature, what of it? We've got six Divine Dao cultivators here, plus all these Demigod-level fighters. What sort of trouble can a single sea creature possibly stir up?"
"Exactly. Brother Yellow-Browed, you're overreacting."
The Yellow-Browed Cultivator's lips twitched, and his two yellow brows knitted together even more tightly.
His vision, however, was considerably better than that of ordinary cultivators. As he watched the approaching wave draw closer, he suddenly blurted: "This is bad—there's something wrong here! Everyone, prepare for battle!"
The others all wore expressions of dismissal, finding the Yellow-Browed Cultivator's alarmism absurd.
One person even laughed openly: "Brother Yellow-Browed, have you been under too much stress lately? A single sea creature comes barreling toward us—can it even survive a combined strike from all us Divine Dao cultivators?"
"Bullshit!"
The Yellow-Browed Cultivator exploded into curses: "Who told you that was just a sea creature? Are you all blind? Can't you see what it looks like? Can't you see the flying boats strapped to its back? Can't you see cultivators perched on top of it?"
It was only after hearing the Yellow-Browed Cultivator's words that everyone finally focused their attention.
By the time their vision could make things out clearly, they were seized by terror.
Indeed, the moment they realized something was wrong, the ten patriarchs of the Sacred Lands had already transformed into ten streaks of light, launching themselves into the air and hurtling toward their position.
Jiang Chen, however, did not make a move. Instead, he stood atop the Black Tortoise divine beast, directing operations with commanding composure, ordering the remaining powerful experts of the Ten Great Sacred Lands to prepare for battle.
The assault would be left to the ten patriarchs.
As for everyone else, they still needed to hold their defensive positions. At a critical chokepoint like this, who knew how many enemy troops the opposing side had deployed?
At the same time, Jiang Chen was observing every detail of the entrance.
There was indeed a formation guarding the entrance—but the several cultivators responsible for maintaining it were clearly distracted, their attention far from focused.
This, of course, gave Jiang Chen and his forces the perfect opportunity to catch them off guard.
