Chapter 2013: A Smooth Finish

left Saintess Sitong and walked out of the valley. He spotted Wei Yong standing outside, looking rather lost and forlorn.

When Wei Yong saw Jiang Chen and the others emerge, a trace of embarrassment flickered across his face. He quickly turned away, clearly not wanting them to see him in such a wretched state.

Wu You, who had a decent relationship with him, stepped forward and asked, "Wei Yong, the trial isn't over yet. Wandering around out here alone instead of staying with your squad — that's dangerous."

Wei Yong shrugged and said with a bitter smile, "I don't have a single Trial Orb on me anymore. If anyone tries to rob me, they'd have to be blind."

"You don't have any Trial Orbs? What happened to them?" Wu You asked, bewildered.

"I mentioned it before — all my Trial Orbs are with Senior Brother Sui Chen. Now Senior Brother Sui Chen won't have anything to do with me. He left the valley on his own and vanished. Besides, his Trial Orbs probably aren't on him either. He must feel terribly guilty about letting us down, so he's deliberately avoiding us." Wei Yong had followed Young Master Sui Chen for a long time and had an extremely close relationship with him.

So now that Young Master Sui Chen had abandoned him entirely, Wei Yong simply couldn't adapt.

Jiang Chen and the others exchanged glances.

Wu You couldn't help but point out, "Wei Yong, I'm not trying to sow discord between you two, but those two saintesses didn't actually take the Trial Orbs from Senior Brother Sui Chen. So this idea of him being consumed by guilt and deliberately hiding — that doesn't really hold up."

Wei Yong froze. "Really? They… they didn't take his Trial Orbs?"

Clearly, in Wei Yong's mind, this was almost inconceivable. Being captured and reduced to a prisoner — there was every reason to take the low-hanging fruit.

"Anyway, that's all I know. If you don't believe me, there's nothing more I can say." Wu You had no intention of saying more. After all, the two of them had always been close, and pressing the point too hard might look like he was trying to drive a wedge between them.

Jiang Chen smiled. "Wei Yong, how many Trial Orbs did you have before?"

"I think around seven."

"And how many did your squad accumulate in total?" Jiang Chen asked curiously.

"Somewhere around twenty or thirty, I think." A small squad of three members should have averaged around thirty Trial Orbs by now.

But most squads failed to reach that average.

Young Master Sui Chen's squad was no exception. Though in their case, they hadn't missed the mark by much.

Jiang Chen shook his head with a wry smile. "The two saintesses were gracious enough not to take his Trial Orbs. But if he goes and gets robbed by someone else in these last two or three days, that would be truly laughable."

Given Young Master Sui Chen's intelligence and strength, this was actually a real possibility. If his Trial Orbs ended up in someone else's hands, it would honestly have been better off in those two saintesses' possession. At least that way, the two saintesses would pose no threat to his squad's chances of taking first place.

For the remaining days, Jiang Chen and his group had no intention of venturing out to take risks or stirring up any more trouble. They found a relatively quiet spot and planned to spend the rest of their time in peace.

As for everyone else, the fighting between squads during these final days had reached a fever pitch.

Clashes between various factions grew increasingly bloody.

But Jiang Chen and his group were safely hidden within their formation — no one could even find them. They could simply sit back, watch the carnage unfold from a distance, and enjoy the show.
