Chapter 1870: The Strongest Warning

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 812 words

"Young Master, since the Myriad Abyss Island has god-level experts, and more than one at that, is that still not enough to deal with the Demon race?" someone couldn't help but ask.

In their minds, divine beings were practically omnipotent. If gods existed, why couldn't they stand against the Demon race?

Why did Young Master Jiang Chen keep saying that even the Myriad Abyss Island would need to multiply its strength several times over to resist the Demon race?

Were the demons truly that terrifying?

Jiang Chen's expression was grave as he spoke evenly: "Sometimes, war isn't a simple matter of comparing strength. If it were merely a contest of power, the ancient Divine Abyss Continent — with all its sects and factions — absolutely surpassed the Demon race in overall might. So why did the demons nearly sweep across the entire Divine Abyss Continent?"

It was a question well worth pondering.

In truth, when the demons invaded, though they came in considerable numbers and brought puppet armies along, their strength was at most a third of the Divine Abyss Continent's native forces.

The demons' power lay in their bloodline abilities, in the inherent advantages of their race.

But the various factions of the Divine Abyss Continent were like a plate of loose sand — picked off one by one by the demons, unable to unite and resist together.

By the time they realized they needed to band as one, the demons had already cut them apart completely, leaving each force to fight alone. Even where small-scale coordination occurred, it lacked the momentum needed to crush the invaders in a single decisive push.

And so, in the end, they fought the demons to a near standstill — barely managing to seal them away — but the Divine Abyss Continent suffered catastrophic losses. Every clan, every sect, was gravely weakened, and some were even annihilated entirely.

The greatest mistake the Divine Abyss Continent made in that sealing war was failing to unite from the very beginning, failing to concentrate their overwhelming advantage to annihilate the demon invaders.

"Brother Mo, why don't you share your thoughts?" Jiang Chen turned his gaze toward Mo Wushuang.

Mo Wushuang understood the cue immediately and nodded. "My knowledge of the Demon race is limited, but their fearsome power is well documented in many texts. The demon clans are endlessly varied in form and bewildering in their methods. They are exceedingly difficult to contend with."

"To stand against the demons, unity must come first. Without it, nothing else matters. Of course, unity is more than just a slogan. I believe that in the ancient era, the reason they ultimately succeeded in sealing the demons came down to the spirit of sacrifice. Every clan, every sect, set aside their self-interest and threw themselves into the sealing war. Countless acts of selfless heroism were born from it. That is what gave the Divine Abyss Continent its peace from ancient times to the present."

"But as things stand now, I fear those days of peace and tranquility are drawing to a close. If our generation cannot deal with the Demon race, then every clan on the Divine Abyss Continent — and every generation that follows — will likely be condemned to slavery under the demons for all eternity. Once the demons take control of a place, there is absolutely no possibility of turning things back!"

Some of Mo Wushuang's words had been prompted by Jiang Chen himself.

Jiang Chen nodded. "Well said. Once the demons take root in a place and claim it, that place can never recover — unless a supreme figure happens to rise from it, returns to their homeland, and single-handedly eradicates the demonic blight. Otherwise, its fate will never change. In the end, the entire region will be assimilated by the demons."

As he spoke, Jiang Chen's gaze drifted toward Ancestor Kuzhu. "Kuzhu, you are an ancestor of your clan after all. What are your thoughts on the Demon race?"

Ancestor Kuzhu was well prepared. "I share Fellow Daoist Mo Wushuang's view. To stand against the demons, unity is essential. In all honesty, the conflict between my Kuman Clan and the human race amounts to nothing more than disputes over territory and resources. With the demons, however, it is a matter of life and death — the very survival of our people. When it comes to fighting the Demon race, my Kuman Clan will not hesitate."

Jiang Chen slapped his thigh. "Good — that's the spirit. Kuzhu, in light of what you've said, I'll let you go right now. I'll send you back to the Kuman Clan, where you will unite the clan and then infiltrate the surrounding territories to investigate conditions across the neighboring regions. Do you dare take on this task?"

Ancestor Kuzhu's eyes lit up. "You're letting me go home? I'll have my freedom back?"
