The Battle Continues on the Field

January 17, 2020 · 6 min read · 1,209 words

A large flock of Iron-beak Flying Cranes, each one pitch-black like forged iron, their defenses skyrocketing, fearless of death, bore down fiercely upon the two mysterious Gu Immortals.

One of the mysterious Gu Immortals suddenly opened his mouth and let out a sharp, piercing howl that echoed across the region.

It was a Sound Path killer move!

Amidst the howl, the formation of Iron-beak Flying Cranes fell into complete disarray. The originally dense battle array became sparse, revealing numerous openings.

"Go!" The other mysterious Gu Immortal saw his chance, grabbed the first one by the arm, and the two suddenly transformed into two balls of grey-white flames. They pierced through the formation of Iron-beak Flying Cranes and rapidly charged towards He Fengyang.

When fighting a Beast/Enslavement Path Gu Immortal, you can't get bogged down fighting the beast horde. Capturing the king is the only correct strategy.

He Fengyang watched the powerful enemies charge in. Far from panicking, a cold sneer curled on his lips.

"You fell for it."

He took out a Five-Hole Jade Flute Gu and brought it to his lips to play. He appeared to be a youth in green robes, but in truth, he was the lord of ten thousand beasts. The hem of his robes fluttered without wind, and divine light flashed in his eyes.

Beast/Enslavement Path killer move — Ambush From All Sides!

Tens of thousands of cranes moved to the sound of the flute. Groups of cranes that had been hiding while invisible revealed themselves, completely surrounding the two mysterious Gu Immortals in layer upon layer.

He Fengyang had deliberately left a gap in his troop deployment as a trap, just waiting for his two opponents to walk right into it.

Now that his opponents had taken the bait, he didn't let up. The flute's tone rose, and at the same time, three Five-String Zither Gus flew out from his body.

The flute melody was melodious, the zither tones crisp and urgent, merging into another Beast/Enslavement Path killer move — Formation Like Water!

Countless cranes flew outwards, while countless others converged inwards.

The entire battle formation shifted like perfectly interlocking gears — vast in scale yet orderly. The cranes wove in and out, their formation changing like flowing water.

The two mysterious Gu Immortals were caught in the middle, dazzled by the dizzying shifts of the crane flock. They felt like soybeans on a millstone, about to be ground to pulp!

He Fengyang continued to play his flute, steady in the center of the beast horde, standing proudly on the back of a Wild Crane. He watched coldly as the crane flock and the two powerful mysterious enemies tangled together.

He mused to himself, "Since the fight began, these two have used countless killer moves, involving Sound Path, Space Path, Fire Path, Wind Path, Light Path, Darkness Path, Law Path... They are deliberately doing this, unwilling to use their true methods, for fear of revealing their identities."

When a Gu Master ascends to become an immortal, according to their foundation and what kind of Gu they used to detonate their immortal aperture, they are divided into different types of Gu Immortals. There are Fire Path Gu Immortals, Wind Path Gu Immortals, Wisdom Path Gu Immortals, and so on, achieving an immortal body corresponding to their Path.

The immortal body is formed when a Gu Master ascends to immortality. It is transformed by the Three Energies, purging impurities, and sublimating the very essence of life.

A Wind Path Immortal Body possesses the Dao Marks and laws of wind, so using Wind Path Gu worms yields better results. A Fire Path Immortal Body has been washed and sublimated by the Great Dao of Fire, drawing it closer to the Fire Path, so using Fire Path killer moves achieves extraordinary effects.

Take Fang Yuan for example. Although he is an Immortal Zombie, at his very core, he is a Strength Path Gu Immortal. He inherently possesses a Strength Path Immortal Body. When he uses Gu worms or killer moves from other schools, the effects are only average.

The two mysterious Gu Immortals attempting to intercept and kill He Fengyang had not used their true methods. That is why, even outnumbering him two-to-one, they were instead being suppressed and beaten by He Fengyang.

"How long do the two of you intend to keep hiding your identities? If you don't use your real skills, you will die here!" He Fengyang sneered coldly, his voice echoing across the entire battlefield.

The two mysterious Gu Immortals' breathing was ragged. The crane flock's assault was like a surging river, ceaseless and unending, exhausting the pair.

Just as He Fengyang had said, if they didn't use their true methods, they really would be killed.

The two exchanged a glance, nodded, and finally made up their minds.

One sighed, "As expected of a righteous orthodox sect. I have witnessed the name of 'Crane Plume Flying Immortal' today."

The other said, "But even without using our true abilities, we can still kill you. He Fengyang, look around you."

"Hm?" He Fengyang's gaze quickly swept the surroundings.

The battlefield, originally thick with dense fog and filled with cries of anguish, was finally changing.

Within clusters of dense mist, dark blue Soul Beasts began to coalesce. In just a few short breaths, the number of Soul Beasts swelled to match the scale of He Fengyang's crane flock.

"Could this be... the Soul Hunt Battlefield?" He Fengyang's heart jolted, and he blurted out.

"Hehehe, the Crane Plume Flying Immortal truly has good eyesight," the mysterious Gu Immortal laughed, his tone constantly shifting, sometimes male, sometimes female.

He Fengyang's face darkened.

The Soul Hunt Battlefield killer move was notoriously vicious and extremely troublesome. Any creature that died within this battlefield would have its soul extracted by the field to form a Soul Beast, driven by the master of the killer move.

What's more, this battlefield killer move was of an even greater origin. It was a battlefield killer move created in his youth by one of the ten Venerables in history, the most bloodthirsty — Spectral Soul Demon Venerable.

Just what background did these two mysterious Gu Immortals have, to actually master the long-lost Soul Hunt Battlefield killer move?!

As soon as the Soul Beasts appeared, they immediately clashed with the crane flock.

The tide of battle shifted abruptly.

He Fengyang hastily directed the cranes, changing their formation to resist the Soul Beasts' attacks. The pressure on the two mysterious Gu Immortals suddenly lessened, and they charged out of the cranes' encirclement.

The Soul Beasts' numbers matched the cranes, but they were no match for the cranes in direct combat, often sacrificing ten Soul Beasts just to take down one flying crane.

But He Fengyang only grew more cautious. When a Soul Beast was torn to shreds, those shreds could coalesce into a new Soul Beast within the Soul Hunt Battlefield.

And when a crane died, its soul was immediately extracted by the battlefield to form a Soul Beast, adding to the enemy's forces. No matter how high He Fengyang's cultivation was, he couldn't achieve zero losses. Once the losses started, with one side rising and the other falling, the Soul Beasts would inevitably gain the upper hand.
