Chapter 164: Fierce Battle

June 17, 2012 · 5 min read · 914 words

To fight the Thunder Crown Alpha Wolf, they had to take the initiative. Its strength was far too great — if it was allowed to enter the stockade, the losses would be catastrophic.

This squad was powerful. At its tip was Patriarch Gu Yue Bo, a Fourth Transformation cultivator, backed by all the Elders. Together, they formed a devastating spearhead.

The wolf tide surged, but they charged straight into the current. Moving in perfect formation like a warship cutting through wind and waves, they pressed onward fearlessly.

Wherever they went, nothing could stand in their way!

The closer they got to the Thunder Crown Alpha Wolf, the greater the pressure from the surrounding wolf tide became.

Gu Yue Bo's face was calm and composed. Suddenly, he thrust his right palm forward in a sharp chopping motion.

Swish!

A golden-yellow Moon Blade, as large as a grown man, materialized in an instant and shot forward.

Swish, swish, swish!

After flying only a few meters, the moon disc split apart, dividing into three. The three moon discs flew side by side, trailing a howling wind as they carved through the wolves like knives through flesh, carving out three paths of blood.

Every wolf in their path was flipped over, limbs flying in every direction, their screams filling the air.

A Mad Lightning Wolf let out a low growl and lunged from the right side, charging straight at the Gu Masters with vicious intent.

"Leave this one to me!" An Elder suddenly took a deep breath, and his gaunt body ballooned into that of a fat man.

With a heavy thud, he used his round belly to knock the Mad Lightning Wolf flying.

The wolf had charged with tremendous force — the harder its impact, the stronger the rebound. It was sent soaring high into the air, tracing a long arc before landing hundreds of meters away.

The other Elders displayed their own abilities.

One had hair like needles that shot out intermittently, sweeping waves of Lightning Wolves off their feet.

Another was wrapped in an illusory suit of glowing armor, enduring the wolves' fangs and claws head-on.

The Thunder Crown Alpha Wolf slowly rose from its semi-reclining position. Its gleaming eyes fixed on the Gu Masters charging toward it, a sharp glint of wariness flashing through them.

It bared its maw and let out a low growl, revealing rows of sharp, uneven fangs.

Mad Lightning Wolves and Fierce Lightning Wolves heard its call and immediately mobilized, lunging toward the Gu Masters from all directions.

The squad's momentum slowed as they met tremendous resistance.

"Patriarch!"

"Elders, we're counting on you!"

"You must win…"

Countless pairs of eyes were fixed upon them. Countless shouts echoed in the hearts of every clansman.

This was the most critical battle.

If they lost, the entire stockade faced annihilation. If they won, the worst of the wolf tide would be behind them.

This was the battle that would decide the life or death of the Gu Yue Clan!

Not a single Elder retreated. They advanced through the blood-soaked battlefield. Though none had been killed, every one of them bore wounds.

They cut through the encirclement and came face to face with the Thunder Crown Alpha Wolf, charging straight at it.

Healing Light Gu.

A middle-aged female Elder suddenly extended both hands, and a stream of pure, warm white light surged forth. It flowed first onto the Patriarch's body, then refracted from one Elder to the next in succession.

This was a Third Transformation Gu — capable of group healing. Instantly, the Gu Masters' wounds stopped bleeding. Minor injuries healed completely, and serious ones recovered substantially.

"Engage!" Gu Yue Bo roared.

At the signal, five Elders flung their hands skyward, launching Moon Blades into the air.

One Elder let out a fierce roar. Every muscle in his body swelled, forcibly expanding to three times its size as he transformed into a massive white-furred gorilla.

He leaped to the front of the formation and interlaced all ten fingers.

Gu Yue Bo planted one foot on the Elder's clasped hands. With a low grunt, the gorilla-Elder planted his feet and drove upward with all his might, hurling Gu Yue Bo into the sky.

Invite Moon Gu.

Gu Yue Bo spread his left hand, releasing a hazy, swirling vortex of purple moonlight.

The Moon Blades the Elders had fired into the air were drawn toward the purple moon vortex, one by one, and absorbed into it.

"Strike!"

Gu Yue Bo's eyes flashed with lethal sharpness. His voice cracked like spring thunder as he brought his palm down from above with devastating force.

Whoosh!

A howl of wind and thunder erupted. A purple Moon Blade — larger than a carriage — slashed down toward the Thunder Crown Alpha Wolf.

The blade seemed slow but was actually blindingly fast. In nearly an instant, it struck its target.

The Thunder Crown Alpha Wolf howled and, at the very last moment, its entire body blazed with a suit of crackling lightning armor.

Boom!

The next instant, a tremendous explosion thundered across the sky, which was flooded with the azure light of lightning and the deep purple glow of moonlight.

Countless people narrowed their eyes as a violent shockwave erupted, sending ordinary Lightning Wolves tumbling through the air in every direction.

When the blinding light faded, the Gu Masters were locked in close combat with the Thunder Crown Alpha Wolf.

Every single Elder was seasoned and experienced, working in seamless coordination.
