Chapter 8: Killing Xiu Luosi

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 870 words

The sleeping rock giant Xiu Luosi was suddenly struck. Even though Shi Feng's damage was negligible, it still startled Xiu Luosi awake.

Being jolted from sleep without warning would make anyone furious.

"You insignificant human, I'll crush you!" Xiu Luosi let out a furious roar, the entire cave shaking as he rose to his feet and strode toward Shi Feng.

Shi Feng naturally wouldn't give Xiu Luosi any chance. He immediately took out a Burst Fruit and hurled it onto the path ahead of the giant.

Rock giants were always slow, and even special elites were no exception. Compared to ordinary rock giants though, Xiu Luosi was larger, hit harder, had more abilities, and moved and attacked slightly faster. But after the Burst Fruit's slowing effect, he was as sluggish as a turtle.

With 16 points in Agility, Shi Feng's movement and attack speed were fast. He circled behind Xiu Luosi and launched a fierce assault.

A string of damage numbers popped up above Xiu Luosi's head.

-2, -2, -2, -2...

Then came a Slashing Strike, dealing 6 points of damage.

Xiu Luosi's defense was truly astonishing. Even with Wind Thunder Flash's damage amplification and a Level 2 Slashing Strike, it only dealt 6 points of damage. A Level 1 Slashing Strike would have only dealt 4.

After a flurry of attacks, Xiu Luosi finally turned around and raised his mountain-sized foot, stomping down hard toward Shi Feng.

As a reborn player who had experienced countless battles in the Divine Realm, Shi Feng showed no panic facing Xiu Luosi. He sidestepped and swiftly dodged behind the giant, evading the sluggish attack, then unleashed a barrage of strikes.

After 5 seconds had passed, Xiu Luosi had regenerated 18 points of HP, leaving 886 points remaining — instantly wasting half of Shi Feng's efforts.

Compared to ordinary monsters, elite-level and above monsters regenerated 2% of their health every 5 seconds. Xiu Luosi had 900 HP, so 18 points per 5 seconds completely outpaced Shi Feng's round of normal attacks.

Even so, Shi Feng continued to calmly swing his sword, steadily chipping away at Xiu Luosi's HP.

An ordinary player seeing this kind of HP pool and regeneration would probably have given up already. But not Shi Feng. With 16 points in Agility, he could easily dodge attacks while maintaining a high attack speed — the damage he dealt could offset the HP recovery. It would just take a very long time.

Constantly dodging while attacking like a madman would feel mind-numbingly tedious, and the high-intensity assault was equally draining, causing fatigue to set in.

One second at a time, Xiu Luosi's HP continued to drop.

Until after 15 seconds of attacking.

The damage amplification from Wind Thunder Flash wore off, and Shi Feng's damage plummeted. Each sword strike now dealt only 1 point, and even Slashing Strike could only take away 4 HP, plunging Shi Feng into a desperate fight.

After another 5 seconds, Xiu Luosi regenerated 18 HP again.

And in those 5 seconds, Shi Feng had only dealt 17 points of damage — not even enough to keep up with the regeneration.

Shi Feng's brow furrowed. Xiu Luosi really was tough to kill. Without sufficient damage output, it was all just wasted effort.

Give up?

Just as Shi Feng was thinking this—

"I'll crush you!" Xiu Luosi roared and slammed his foot down.

Instantly, the cave shook violently. Sharp stalactites rained from the ceiling, covering the entire cavern.

"It even has a raid-wipe skill?"

Sensing danger, Shi Feng retreated from Xiu Luosi's vicinity and dodged the falling stalactites.

The stalactites came down in enormous quantities and at tremendous speed. If a whole team were here, in such a confined space, dodging would be impossible — a guaranteed wipe. If not for Shi Feng's exceptional agility and the relatively spacious area, it would have been nearly impossible to evade them.

After Xiu Luosi's skill finished, he showed signs of exhaustion. Shi Feng's eyes lit up, and he charged straight in.

Wind Thunder Flash!

Slashing Strike!

Instantly dealing a terrifying -4, -5, -6, -10 points of damage.

Fatigue state — a period of weakness after small bosses unleashed their major skills. Not only was attack power reduced, but defense dropped significantly as well.

With Xiu Luosi in fatigue state, Shi Feng saw hope of killing him.

Seizing the moment, his attacks grew even more frenzied.

-4, -4, -4...

Taking advantage of the weakened state and the lingering damage amplification, each sword strike took away 4 points of HP.

Xiu Luosi was in fatigue state, and his HP regeneration rate had dropped to 1%.

As one gained and the other lost, a single fatigue phase allowed Shi Feng to take away 15% of Xiu Luosi's HP.

The rest of the fight was about perseverance — constantly attacking to offset Xiu Luosi's regeneration. Every 30 seconds, Wind Thunder Flash provided another burst of damage. Then came the wait for Xiu Luosi's ultimate skill. For a team, this skill would undoubtedly be terrifying, but for Shi Feng, it was an opportunity.

Sure enough, after each interval, Xiu Luosi would unleash his ultimate. Shi Feng seized the chance to take away another 16% of his HP.
