The moment Shi Feng closed to within thirty yards of the Mountain Beast Warrior, the creature spotted him charging in, threw open its massive jaws to let out a piercing battle cry, and hefted its enormous spiked club into a charge straight at him.
Shi Feng immediately drew Abyssal, held the longsword horizontally, and activated Parry.
With a loud crack, Shi Feng was knocked back five yards, putting considerable distance between himself and the Mountain Beast Warrior. He hadn't taken any damage. The moment he landed, he turned and bolted into the stone forest.
If the charge connected, the Mountain Beast Warrior would instantly follow up with a hamstring to slow the player down, making escape impossible.
In his previous life, Elementalists farming Mountain Beast Warriors who got hit would immediately cast Frost Nova, freezing the beast for eight seconds. That bought enough time to open up distance and kite it, since the Mountain Beast Warrior only used its charge on the first encounter — afterward it relied on sweeping attacks. As long as you stayed out of reach, there was no danger.
Add to that the fact that the area was full of towering rock formations, and using them to toy with the Mountain Beast Warrior became far easier.
Shi Feng activated a Speed Scroll. His pace was only marginally faster than the Mountain Beast Warrior's — barely noticeable — but that sliver of a gap meant the beast could never quite catch up.
Once he entered the dense stone forest, Shi Feng spun around and unleashed Wind Thunder Flash. Its fifteen-yard reach punched clean through the Mountain Beast Warrior's armor, dealing three hits of -15, -19, and -23. With no level suppression, even at fifty percent reduced stats, Shi Feng's attack power and skill damage were still formidable.
After using the skill, Shi Feng's speed dipped for an instant, and the Mountain Beast Warrior caught up. The struck beast grew furious, roaring as it swung its spiked club in a wild arc aimed right at him.
Shi Feng ducked sharply behind a nearby boulder. The club missed him entirely and smashed into the rock, sending chips of stone flying.
That exchange bought him another eight yards of distance.
Wind Thunder Flash spent, Shi Feng activated Sword Control Return to Heaven, expanding his attack range to fifteen yards. As long as he kept five yards between himself and the Mountain Beast Warrior, the beast couldn't touch him.
And so Shi Feng kept turning to swing his sword while watching for the gap to close, dodging the club whenever it got too near. Blade after blade flashed into the Mountain Beast Warrior's body. The beast could only roar in helpless rage as its health steadily dropped — never imagining that a single human could be this agile and cunning, ducking behind a boulder with every swing so that its thick club couldn't land, only widening the distance further.
When the first Mountain Beast Warrior's health fell below seven percent, another one that had been hiding behind a large rock suddenly burst out, cutting off Shi Feng's path with a charge.
"Get lost!"
Facing the ambushing Mountain Beast Warrior, Shi Feng immediately used Abyssal Bind, locking the creature in place and interrupting the deadly charge in one move.
With the Mountain Beast Warrior immobilized, Shi Feng had no reason to hold back. He unleashed Wind Chasing Sword, instantly putting distance between himself and the half-dead beast, and slashed the restrained warrior across the neck. He followed up with a double slash to inflict Bleed, then finished with another cleaving strike.
In under three seconds, he carved away sixteen percent of the creature's health.
Seeing the wounded Mountain Beast Warrior closing in from behind, Shi Feng sidestepped and circled behind the restrained one.
He raised Abyssal high — all black as midnight — and brought it down.
Wind Thunder Flash!
Three consecutive hits of -16, -19, and -23 erupted above both Mountain Beast Warriors' heads. The wounded one collapsed with a thunderous crash.
