Chapter 2587: Beyond Reason, the Ancient God Unlocked

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 722 words

The Dark World. Ancient God's Tower.

On a desolate wasteland of shattered rock, a squad of over a thousand was frantically clearing out savage orcs, but the orcs numbered far too many, and the team's advance was agonizingly slow.

From a distance, the team looked as though it had been swallowed by a tide of orcs. Aside from the small patch of ground they occupied, everything else was nothing but savage orcs.

Savage Orc — humanoid creature, High Lord, Level 112, HP 57 million.

Savage Orc Warrior — humanoid creature, Great Lord, Level 113, HP 140 million.

Savage Orc Captain — humanoid creature, High Great Lord, Level 114, HP 500 million.

"Elder Nuxin, the monsters pouring out of the ancient city are too numerous. If we get any closer, we'll probably draw the attention of the orc captains on the walls!" a Level 110 Tier 3 Shield Warrior at the front line, struggling to hold back the savage orcs, reported.

The previous three ancient cities they had tackled had been difficult, but none of them had produced this many monsters — over a hundred thousand in total.

If the entire team hadn't been made up of Tier 3 experts, and if the monsters flooding out had included anything beyond savage orcs and Savage Orc Warriors, they would have been wiped out long ago.

"How did the difficulty spike so dramatically?" Nuxin glanced at the Savage Orc Captains guarding the distant city walls and gritted his teeth. "Everyone, shift formations! We clear these monsters first, then we advance!"

High Great Lords at Level 114 were not impossible to deal with, but there were over thirty of them stationed on the city walls alone. Out in the open, that many could lay siege to a town and raze a city to the ground.

And that was on top of the massive numbers of Savage Orcs and Savage Orc Warriors surrounding them. This was simply not something a thousand-person squad could handle.

At Nuxin's command, the entire team immediately shifted into a square formation. The outer ring consisted of tanks and melee players whose job was to hold the aggro of the surging savage orcs, while the center was packed with ranged and magic-class players.

In an instant, the spellcasters began their incantations. Enormous magic circles materialized above the heads of the savage orcs — over a hundred of them, so many that they blotted out the sky entirely, plunging the whole area into darkness.

Three or four seconds later, the magic circles completed their formation. Countless fireballs, ice arrows, lightning bolts, and thunderclaps rained down.

Boom… Boom… Boom…

The bombardment across the shattered wasteland was deafening, its echoes reverberating endlessly.

By the time the last large-scale spell dissipated, the area around the team had been reduced to a wasteland of death. The ground was littered with the corpses of Savage Orcs and Savage Orc Warriors — over four thousand in total.

"Now that's satisfying! Having a team that can wield large-scale destruction magic really makes a difference!"

"Tell me about it. Before, our team only had a handful of people who could use Tier 3 large-scale destruction magic, and even then our grinding speed was double the norm. Now we've got over a hundred people who can cast them. I doubt even those superpowers could field a team like this."

"It's a shame the monsters in the Ancient God's Tower don't drop anything. At most you just get some experience. Otherwise we'd be rolling in loot."

The top players from the various major factions within the team gazed at the devastation before them, each one silently astonished.

They had known beforehand that Demon's Heart had been borrowing personnel from the major factions across the Dark World to ensure they could tackle the Ancient God's Tower, and Tier 3 experts capable of wielding large-scale destruction magic had been the primary targets of that recruitment.

During earlier battles, they had already used quite a few large-scale destruction spells, but having over a hundred people cast them simultaneously was an entirely different experience. The sheer awe it inspired was incomparable.

And yet, it once again drove home just how important magic-class players with large-scale destruction magic really were.

There was no denying it — these people were weapons of mass destruction in team fights and large-scale battles.
