"They fled?"
"What's wrong with these Demon NPCs?"
The players in Demon City were utterly baffled as Morpheus and the other Demon NPCs abruptly turned and ran for their lives.
Just moments ago, they had surrounded Shi Feng and were on the verge of launching their attack. Yet the instant Shi Feng's true body appeared, they scattered like mice fleeing a cat.
What was going on?
At that moment, it wasn't just the players in Demon City who were confused—even the members of Demon Heart, the ones who actually controlled the city, were completely dumbfounded.
"What did he do? Why are the Demon NPCs afraid of him?" Elder Wrathheart stared at Shi Feng, who was still chanting incantations midair, his heart filled with astonishment.
Fourth-tier Demon NPCs were, in terms of intelligence, virtually on par with players. For a player to gain any advantage against these fourth-tier Demons was virtually impossible.
In the current state of things, players were nothing more than a joke in front of these Demon NPCs—mere ants that could be swatted dead at any moment, let alone make them afraid.
After all, these Demon NPCs had faced even a Great Priest of the fifth tier with perfect composure and ultimately repelled the Ten Sacred Empire's army, allowing Demon City to establish itself right beside the Empire. The great superpowers of the Ten Sacred Empire had gnashed their teeth in fury over this, yet there was absolutely nothing they could do about it.
Only the War Wolf Guild, driven by an irreconcilable conflict of interests, had been forced to mobilize their forces to weaken Demon City's strength. But that had only ended up benefiting them, further bolstering their power and making the great superpowers even more wary of Demon City.
So what was this—these Demon NPCs fleeing in every direction?
But before Elder Wrathheart could finish his thought, Shi Feng in midair finished chanting the final syllable, his gaze locking onto a fourth-tier Level 134 Demon Viscount's bodyguard captain who had fled into a magical barrier nearby.
"In the name of the Lord of Ten Thousand Demons, submit to my will!"
In an instant, pitch-black chains materialized around the Level 134 Demon bodyguard captain, radiating an indescribable sense of oppression that made every Demon present shudder to their core.
"No! Don't take my will!"
The Demon bodyguard captain saw the chains suddenly appearing all around him and struggled with everything he had, attacking the chains with all his might.
But it was all futile. The pitch-black chains seemed not to even exist in the face of the Demon bodyguard captain's assault, instantly sinking into his body.
The Demon bodyguard captain, who had been fighting back desperately just a moment ago, suddenly went rigid, his eyes turning hazy and vacant, as if his very soul had been ripped away.
"What did he do?"
"He subdued a genuine fourth-tier Demon Viscount in a single move?"
Every Demon player present was struck speechless with disbelief. This was a fourth-tier Demon NPC of their Demon City—its combat power was incomparable to any fourth-tier Demon in the outside world. Moreover, this particular Demon bore the title of Viscount, a true Great Demon whose strength rivalled that of human fourth-tier Heroes.
And now he just stood there, motionless…
"Did it work?" Shi Feng let out a breath of relief as he looked at the Demon bodyguard captain hovering motionless in midair.
The Book of Darkness held tremendous intimidation over Demons. In truth, only Demons at the Demon King level and above could even marginally resist its power—all Demons below that rank would instinctively recoil in fear. Now that the Book of Darkness had been restored with its internal core magic array, its deterrent force was even stronger.
However, controlling a Demon was no easy feat. On the surface, there was a twelve percent chance of successfully controlling a demon creature that was no more than thirty levels above one's own and no more than two tiers higher. In practice, the more powerful the Demon, the lower the probability of control.
