Chapter 2020: The Fall of Barbarian Hammer

January 17, 2020 · 7 min read · 1,422 words

The instant the Miniature World and the Ring of Radiance activated, a silver-gray wave of spatial energy radiated outward with Shi Feng at its center.

The spatial wave passed through the bodies of everyone on the main street, and they all felt as though they had stepped into a zone of crushing gravity—every part of their bodies grew impossibly heavy. Not only were their base attributes plummeting, but even their physical reactions began to sluggish.

This wave of energy swept across all of Barbarian Hammer Town in moments.

"What's going on? I can't contact the outside world!"

As the wave subsided, a translucent barrier descended over the entirety of Barbarian Hammer Town. A portion of the players inside suddenly realized they had been completely cut off from the outside—they couldn't even access the Star Moon Kingdom's official forums.

On the main street, the members of the Starlight Alliance had begun to panic.

Their attributes were suppressed by thirty percent, their constitution had tanked, and they could no longer contact the outside world for reinforcements. That meant they would have to face the thousand giant players on this street—who had just had their attributes boosted—all on their own.

Under normal circumstances, even with full stats, they were being steamrolled by the giant players. Now, with their attributes slashed so drastically, the situation was beyond dire.

"All right, if anyone else in town wants to help the Starlight Alliance, I won't stop you." Shi Feng swept his gaze over the adventurer teams and independent players lurking along the street, his tone calm and unhurried. "So—shall we begin?"

Though Shi Feng's voice was not loud, in the dead silence that had fallen over the street, it was impossible not to hear every word. One by one, the players averted their gazes, their eyes filled with wariness.

"This Hei Yan is something else! One sentence, and all the players who were thinking about picking up scraps don't dare make a move."

"Exactly! Zero Wing showed off the terrifying power of their giant players first, then used a magical barrier to seal off all of Barbarian Hammer Town and suppress every player inside. Combine that with Hei Yan's completely unflustered attitude—who would dare provoke Zero Wing now?"

"As expected of the Guild Master of Zero Wing. With composure and cunning like that, the Starlight Alliance is going to have a world of trouble dealing with Zero Wing. There's no way they're getting any help from the players in town."

The executives of non-Starlight Alliance guilds watching from both sides of the street were deeply impressed, and their wariness of Zero Wing ratcheted up another notch.

At that moment, Bahayu, who had rushed over from the turret, thrust his hand forward. Several players hidden around the street produced Tier 3 Grand Destruction magic scrolls from their inventories and locked them onto Shi Feng. Above the street, enormous magical arrays materialized in the air one after another.

"Hei Yan! Pay the price for your arrogance!" Bahayu roared at Shi Feng and the others. "Fire!"

A full nine Tier 3 Grand Destruction magic scrolls activated simultaneously. Their coverage blanketed the entire main street, and their power dwarfed anything the turrets could produce. Shields would be useless—only raw endurance could weather the blast. Even a Tier 2 giant Shield Warrior with maxed defenses would need to burn every survival cooldown just to barely cling to life. As for anyone else…

Shi Feng might be formidable, but in the time it took for the scrolls to fire, there was no way he could reach the casters stationed at all nine corners of the street.

The nine massive magical arrays blazed with blinding light, and the surge of mana they summoned seemed poised to swallow the entirety of Barbarian Hammer Town's main street.

Just as the nine Tier 3 Grand Destruction spells were about to crash down, Shi Feng on the street showed no intention of dodging. He simply raised one hand and waved.

Forbidden Domain!

A gray shockwave rippled outward, and the magical arrays in the sky shattered and collapsed in an instant. The roaring torrents of mana subsided as if the Tier 3 Grand Destruction arrays had never existed at all.

"A large-scale Anti-Magic Domain!?" Bahayu's gaze shot to the nine players stationed around the perimeter. In their hands, the magic scrolls had already disintegrated—the hallmark of an anti-magic dissolution effect.

With this kind of anti-magic suppression, casting offensive magic was completely off the table. Fighting inside an Anti-Magic Domain put them at a massive disadvantage. The only option was to use the turrets and arrow towers to bombard the main street—not necessarily to deal damage, but to buy enough time for everyone to escape the domain's range.

Just as Bahayu was about to order the turrets and arrow towers to open fire on the main street, a clear voice suddenly rang in his ears.

"You've had your turn. Now it's mine. I hope this spell is to your liking!" Shi Feng pointed toward the sky.

Domain of Flames!

Bahayu looked up to see a crimson magical array bloom across the heavens, covering a good half of the street.

"No—!"

The array engulfed the clustered Starlight Alliance guild members, and in the next instant, a pillar of fire erupted skyward, visible to every player in Barbarian Hammer Town. Wherever the flames touched, the ground melted into a hellscape of molten rock. Even Level 80 Tier 2 NPCs could not survive within the inferno—they held on for mere seconds before collapsing and turning to ash.

When the pillar of fire finally faded, every person on the scene sucked in a sharp breath.

Several thousand players and over a hundred NPC guards had simply vanished. Player loot littered the ground across half the street, leaving a vast, empty expanse.

But the truly terrifying thing was that this single blow had wiped out the majority of the Starlight Alliance's main defensive force. Far worse than losing ten thousand Tier 1 elite members—even Tier 2 professionals and Tier 1 experts could still slow the enemy down. Tier 1 elites, on the other hand, were completely helpless against Tier 2 giant players.

"Looks like the destruction came out nicely." Shi Feng glanced at the gap that had been torn in the siege perimeter, then said, "All units, move out! Our target is the Knight's Judgment guild headquarters!"

Towns were difficult to capture in large part because of their outer defenses, which made it nearly impossible for invaders to break through. But towns were not cities—they lacked permanent defensive magic arrays. Invaders could teleport inside using skills or items with relative ease.

Now that the turrets and arrow towers were no longer a threat, the only real obstacle was the Tier 2 players and NPC guards defending the town. Before, the Tier 2 players and NPC guards had held a significant numerical advantage, but after that single strike, the numbers were no longer so lopsided—and on top of that, they were all crushed under the weight of the Miniature World. Barbarian Hammer Town was no longer a concern.

At Shi Feng's command, one thousand giant players charged straight for the Knight's Judgment guild headquarters. The Starlight Alliance members who tried to block their path were torn apart with ease—the vanguard Berserkers shredded through the defensive line as if it were paper. The only ones who could even put up a fight were Tier 2 professionals who burned their burst skills.

But Zero Wing's giant players had burst skills of their own. Several Tier 2 Berserkers who activated the Power of Darkness became raging beasts, each strike toppling over a dozen enemies at once. Wherever they passed, flashes of white light flickered continuously. Even Level 80 Tier 2 NPCs were completely outmatched, able to do nothing but take the beating.

The free-roaming players watching from the sidelines were too terrified to move, afraid of drawing the wrath of these berserk adventurers. As for the adventurer teams and small guild members who had been eyeing the opportunity to loot—they abandoned any thought of making a move against Zero Wing entirely, quietly thanking their luck that they hadn't acted rashly.

Before the players of Barbarian Hammer Town could even recover from the shock of the giant players' devastation, Zero Wing's giants had already stormed into the heavily fortified Knight's Judgment headquarters, destroyed the guild banner on the basement level, and obtained the Town Founding Token of Barbarian Hammer Town—stripping the Starlight Alliance of their control over the town for good.
