Chapter 2: Sherlock's Request

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 791 words

Divine Realm was designed to accommodate the vast number of players by allowing them to play while sleeping, and the in-game time operated differently from reality—a 48-hour cycle meant that one real-world hour equaled two in-game hours.

In the game, forty-eight hours constituted a full day: thirty hours of daylight and eighteen hours of night, a perfectly regular cycle.

Additionally, nighttime in the real world corresponded to daytime in the game, enabling even the busiest office workers to enjoy the gaming experience.

As soon as Shi Feng entered Divine Realm, he was first pulled through a kaleidoscopic tunnel before arriving at a solemn, golden temple.

A female angel, no larger than a palm and flapping four pairs of snow-white wings, flew up to him.

"Hello, adventurer! Welcome to Divine Realm. I am the Guide Angel Gabriel, and I will explain the four major categories and twelve Classes for you. Choose the one you like best."

With a wave of her tiny hand, introductions for twelve Classes appeared before Shi Feng.

These twelve Classes belonged to four main systems.

Warrior System: Shield Warrior, Guardian Knight, Berserker.

Weapon System: Swordsman, Assassin, Ranger.

Healing System: Priest, Druid, Oracle.

Spell System: Elementalist, Summoner, Warlock.

The Warrior System focused on defense and tanking, the Weapon System on physical damage, the Healing System on restoration, and the Spell System on magical output. Each Class offered a distinct combat style, serving as a major selling point of Divine Realm.

In his previous life, Shi Feng had chosen the Swordsman from the Weapon System, a Class hailed as the "Sorcerer of the Sword."

He had invested far too much into being a Swordsman to consider anything else. Without hesitation, he selected the Class he knew inside and out.

"Class selection complete. Please name your character."

"Ye Feng."

He chose the same name as in his previous life.

"Naming successful. Would you like to adjust your facial appearance? The adjustment rate is 15%."

Shi Feng thought for a moment. He didn't want to draw too much attention, so he opted for the 15% adjustment. Though it made him less handsome than his real self, no one would be able to recognize him.

"Please select a birthplace in the Star Moon Kingdom."

Immediately, a map of the Star Moon Kingdom materialized before him, dotted with dozens of cities.

Divine Realm's launch was synchronized globally. To accommodate hundreds of millions of players, its landmass was vast beyond compare, rivaling the surface area of two or three Earths. The number of nations within it was enormous, though the player's starting country was predetermined based on their real-world region and city. The only choice offered was the specific city within that country.

"White River City."

Shi Feng had no intention of choosing any other city. He directly selected White River City, the one he was most familiar with.

White River City was the fifth-largest city in the Star Moon Kingdom and an important city in the eastern part of the kingdom. Many small studios liked to develop here, avoiding the conflicts between the major guilds.

"City confirmed. The player will be randomly assigned to Red Leaf Town, a subordinate town of White River City. Teleportation in 3 seconds. Wishing you a pleasant gaming experience."

Then Shi Feng felt his vision blur as he was teleported away.

Red Leaf Town. Medieval architectural style, with neatly arranged houses everywhere. The streets were filled with NPCs walking about and chatting, giving the feeling of having stepped into another world.

Shi Feng was teleported in front of a church, clad in gray beginner's leather armor with a beginner's sword hanging at his waist — the very picture of a down-on-his-luck Swordsman.

"So I've ended up in Red Leaf Town after all." Shi Feng smiled faintly, gazing at the familiar small town before him, his confidence brimming.

By now, a large number of players were already wandering around, talking to NPCs, searching for quest clues. A few bold players had already left the town heading into the wilderness to kill monsters, each one fighting with everything they had, wishing they could split their time into two.

Shi Feng paid no attention to the other players. He simply waved and flicked his finger, and the player's attribute panel appeared.
