Chapter 1957. A Master Close to the Top

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 776 words

On a flat hillside at Jadelake Rock, Star Mark and the others held their position here. The excellent vantage point made it easy to monitor the surrounding area, but the only downside was that monsters here respawned quickly and had to be cleared out constantly.

At this moment, Star Mark and the rest were clearing a dozen or so level 62 Mountain Wall Stone Ghosts that had just respawned.

"Boss Star Mark, new situation—Su Yuan's group has been attacked by 's people and is requesting immediate backup!" a level 57 Ranger suddenly reported.

"Zero Wing dares to attack us proactively?" Star Mark, who was directing the fight, couldn't help but chuckle. "Looks like we didn't teach them a hard enough lesson last time. Send word to the nearest team to reinforce them immediately, and tell the other teams to rush over as well. We can't let them escape!"

The level 57 Ranger relayed the message to the nearest team right away.

The closest team would arrive in just three minutes. By then, two teams would be more than enough to pin down Zero Wing's people, and the other two teams would follow within five to ten minutes. With four teams forming an encirclement, Zero Wing would have a hard time getting away.

Once the order was given, Star Mark immediately had everyone fall back, abandoning the Mountain Wall Stone Ghosts, and headed straight for Zero Wing's location.

Although in Star Mark's view four teams should already be enough to handle Zero Wing's hundred-man squad, the vice president, Hun Duan Shi Fang, had given him a direct order, so he had to take it seriously. Just to be safe, it was necessary for him to go personally.

Meanwhile, Fierce Serpent and his group were growing more fired up the longer they fought, steadily depleting the Miracle team's ranks. The Tier 2 Elementalist leading them was growing more alarmed by the second.

"What on earth is going on?"

The Tier 2 Elementalist stared at Fierce Serpent and his companions in disbelief.

In the middle of combat, Fierce Serpent and the others were actually growing stronger. Originally they had plenty of openings during the fight, but as the battle dragged on, those weaknesses were disappearing one by one. At the same time, the幅度 of their body movements kept shrinking, with fewer and fewer unnecessary motions.

It was as though Fierce Serpent and the others had just acquired new bodies and were adapting to them with every passing moment. At first, the Elementalist's magic attacks had at least managed to keep Fierce Serpent scrambling, but now Fierce Serpent could chase him down on offense while simultaneously fending off his spells.

And as the Tier 2 Elementalist watched in shock, Fierce Serpent's control over his body grew ever more refined. Eventually, he didn't even bother with defense, instead executing the basic combat technique he had never quite mastered before— Step. He became like a wisp of clear wind, letting the magic attacks come, yet effortlessly weaving through every one of them.

In just a couple of moves, he dodged all the spells and closed the distance to the Elementalist in an instant, his massive axe coming down with devastating force.

Tier 2 Skill—Thunder Strike!

The axe transformed into a bolt of lightning and crashed down. Neither the speed nor the power was something the Tier 2 Elementalist could block or dodge.

Boom!

A bolt of cyan thunder struck the ground, blasting a huge crater into the earth. The Tier 2 Elementalist—whose health was already down to a third—along with his magic shield, shattered together and vanished from this stretch of forest, dropping a robe on the ground.

The remaining members of the Miracle Guild were plunged into despair at the sight.

The Tier 2 Elementalist leading them was a genuine entry-level master, capable of taking on several ordinary Tier 2 experts on his own. But now that their leader was dead, how could the rest of them possibly deal with Fierce Serpent?

"Run!"

An instinctive reaction sent the Miracle Guild members scattering in every direction.

"Run? You think you can get away?" Fierce Serpent picked up the robe from the ground and immediately gave chase after the fleeing Miracle Guild members.

The basic battle magic gear had elevated their life force tier and significantly boosted their base stats—comparable to activating a minor burst skill. Among these boosts, the increase to health was the most dramatic, effectively doubling it, while speed had received a notable bump as well. In his current state, Fierce Serpent's speed was no less than that of a Tier 2 Assassin decked out in top-tier equipment.
