Chapter 170. Rising to Fame

June 18, 2016 · 4 min read · 707 words

After watching the guard captain leave with a respectful bow, Huo Wu finally understood why no one had been worried about Shi Feng at all.

But that only brought more questions to the surface.

Who exactly was Shi Feng?

Beside her, Shui Niu's jaw had only just snapped shut. Even the high-and-mighty guard captain had been so deferential.

There was a saying in the virtual gaming world: the height a team could reach depended on its leader. A leader like Shi Feng—what kind of peaks would he lead them to?

A gaming expert of Shi Feng's caliber would be absolutely sought-after in the Divine Realm. A single word from him would have countless major guilds offering sky-high invitations, and even famous first-rate guilds would do the same. Yet he had chosen to form his own team. For any player lucky enough to join, the envy of others was practically guaranteed.

Shui Niu had joined the team mainly because he trusted Huo Wu. She was a rare expert in her own right, and he had his own dreams of glory—that was why he'd signed on, hoping to learn all manner of techniques from her.

But for the first time since he started playing, Shui Niu felt genuinely grateful to have ended up on Shi Feng's team.

Not because Shi Feng's damage output was terrifying—though it was—but because of his combat technique. His dodging, his attack angles, his sense of timing when using skills, his read on the overall situation—everything was razor-precise. Otherwise, he never would have been able to intimidate the entire Martial Alliance and leave them shaking in their boots.

On top of that, their leader was both skilled and loyal. In terms of raw ability, he belonged to the very pinnacle of the virtual gaming world. If Shui Niu could pick up even a fraction of what Shi Feng knew, becoming an ordinary expert would be no problem at all. And who knew—under Shi Feng's guidance, he might even make it into that impossibly elite circle of top-tier players.

"Man. There are way too many people here. Let's find a less crowded restaurant and talk there." Shi Feng glanced around. Over three or four hundred players had been staring at him with burning intensity, and this was clearly not the place to discuss future plans.

Ke Le and the others nodded—they were barely holding it together themselves.

All these people were free players trying to join the team. Many of them were already level seven or eight, and quite a few wealthy players were willing to pay tens of thousands of Credit Points just to have Shi Feng carry them, or to hire him to form a quest group, and so on.

There were even a number of strikingly attractive female players who had come to make his acquaintance, leaving more than a few male players green with envy. But that was what happened when you were someone like Shi Feng—like a hero straight out of ancient history. In this day and age, a man with decent skills alone could draw plenty of female attention; for a god-tier expert, it was practically irresistible.

What was even more impressive was that all the major guilds in Red Leaf Town had been sending him communication requests nonstop, wanting to have a chat. Shi Feng had turned down every single one.

"Sister Huo Wu, you'd better step up your game. This is your chance. As the captain's fame keeps growing, who knows—maybe even more gorgeous women will join the team," Shui Niu whispered to Huo Wu with a quiet grin.

"Sh-shut up. Who said I wanted to be Night Edge's gir—girlfriend." A flush of crimson spread across Huo Wu's cheeks as she stammered out her reply.

On a hill outside Red Leaf Town, several hundred members of the Martial Alliance had gathered. They could only stare at the town from afar, not daring to come any closer.

"Damn it. Damn it all. That bastard Night Edge—he ruined every single one of my plans." Fengyun Wuhui gazed coldly at Red Leaf Town, his heart seething with rage.

He had underestimated Shi Feng this whole time, assuming he was nothing more than some idle expert. How strong could he really be?
