This killing intent emanated from those player experts who were level 46 and above. Right now, the way they watched him approach was entirely hostile — their stances tense and guarded.
This struck
He was wearing a black cloak. Not only couldn't they see his level, they couldn't even make out his face. Yet the mere fact that he walked toward them had them this on edge. Truly baffling.
"All right, he probably just came to see Sailuola." The man standing beside You Lan waved his hand, signaling the experts to stand down.
Only after hearing the man's words did the experts relax and settle back into calm.
"My apologies, friend. My brothers are a bit jumpy — they mean no harm." The young man at the front of the group apologized.
"It's fine. I understand."
In the Divine Realm, encountering a player in a black cloak under full concealment would put most people on edge. However, inside a city, very few would do this, since cities were safe — NPC guards patrolled everywhere. Unless one was completely unprepared for a sneak attack and the gap in strength was enormous, killing a player within a city was generally very difficult.
But that wasn't to say it never happened. Some players who had been ambushed out in the wild so often had developed an instinct for it — the moment they spotted someone in a black cloak, they became extremely wary.
But
The top priority right now was sorting out the Armor of Ruin. Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to move freely.
Just as
"You've really made me work to find you! Did you think you still had a chance at this point?"
The moment this man appeared, the surrounding air turned foul, as though shrouded in a layer of gray mist — an indescribable cold and dread.
"Ghost One! I can't believe they even sent someone like you to hunt us down!" The young man beside You Lan managed a bitter smile as he looked at the middle-aged man who had appeared so suddenly.
It wasn't just the young man on high alert. The several experts beside him all turned ashen at the sight of this assassin, faces drained of color, struck with indescribable terror.
Because the middle-aged man before them had once been known as the
If it were merely a matter of being killed, that would be one thing. But Ghost One and his people had drunk the Demon's Grasp — anyone killed by Ghost One's crew would suffer extraordinary equipment drops.
"An Tong, I'm sure the higher-ups have already told you: submit or die. Since you refuse to submit, the only option is to send you on your way." Ghost One drew the gleaming dagger from his waist and spoke in a flat tone. "For old times' sake — we were colleagues once — I'll give you some advice: delete your accounts right now. Why suffer through this? The higher-ups won't allow you to keep a single thing. Did you really think you could escape our pursuit?"
"You Lan, get everyone out of here as soon as you can. We'll hold them off. As long as you make it to the main street, they won't be able to act so freely." The young man named An Tong whispered to You Lan beside him.
You Lan clenched her teeth and nodded.
Although she wanted to charge through the encirclement together with An Tong and the others, that was clearly impossible. Setting aside the enemy's overwhelming numerical advantage, Ghost One alone had the power to kill both her and An Tong with ease.
"Think you can run? With me here, not a single one of you will live." Ghost One had clearly seen through An Tong's plan and sneered. "Go! Leave no one alive!"
Instantly, over a hundred people surged into motion at Ghost One's command. Melee fighters charged straight in, rear-line healers immediately cast Shields of Truth, while ranged fighters sealed off everyone's movement.
But that wasn't all.
Ghost One's group had clearly perfected the art of hunting down players inside cities. They had already sent over a dozen stealthed assassins to surround the area. One by one, the assassins materialized and produced magic scrolls, trapping everyone inside a magic formation. Ghost One himself produced a dark gray magic scroll and unfurled it, and the surrounding space immediately grew blurred and warped.
This magic scroll was a special item purchasable only from dark faction shops.
Perception Blur!
Once activated, this scroll altered the surrounding space, making it extremely difficult for the city's NPC guards to detect the sounds of battle. Unless the fight occurred within an NPC guard's direct line of sight, it would take a considerable amount of time before they noticed.
"Damn it! They were prepared all along!" An Tong watched the rising magic formation, and his heart sank.
Although the magic formation Ghost One had deployed was only a basic one, breaking through it would take players considerable time — and that time was more than enough for Ghost One to kill them several times over.
