Beneath the Magic Tower of Stone Forest Town, waves upon waves of Black Water members launched charge after charge.
The Magic Tower itself wasn't something Black Water could destroy, but as long as the players controlling it were taken out, the tower would be nothing more than a useless husk.
The trouble was that the Magic Tower was easy to defend and hard to attack.
Right now, though, the elites of the Black Water Guild didn't care about any of that. They threw themselves into the tower as if their lives meant nothing.
The reason they were going all out was that Qi Yitao had gone all in too, putting up an astronomical bounty. Whoever seized control of the Magic Tower would receive a full set of level-40 Dark Gold equipment, along with a matching Bronze-rank mount.
Men die for wealth; birds die for food.
That kind of reward made the eyes of every Black Water Guild member burn red with greed.
A complete set of level-40 Dark Gold equipment was the absolute top-tier configuration for any guild expert, to say nothing of a Bronze-rank mount—something most guild veterans could only dream about.
Besides, the Black Water Guild had an overwhelming numerical advantage. Even a brute-force assault on the Magic Tower would be more than sufficient.
Still, there were only three slots available, so of course they went berserk.
Meanwhile, inside the Magic Tower, the one directing the defense—Shuise Qiangwei—had a splitting headache. Every magical scroll they had was already spent, and they had even deployed large-scale destructive magic, but the Black Water Guild members charged in like madmen, utterly indifferent to their own deaths. The Zero Wing defenders stationed in the tower were dwindling at a terrifying rate.
"Sister Shuise, what do we do now? The Magic Tower closest to us has fewer than a hundred defenders left, and the situation at the other two towers isn't any better. If this keeps up, we're going to lose the towers for sure." Hei Zi kept attacking Black Water players who surged in from every surrounding street, but no matter how many he cut down, it never felt like their numbers were shrinking—if anything, there were more and more of them.
Shuise Qiangwei's brow furrowed tightly upon hearing this.
Here they were already struggling just to hold off the Red Jade Legion, with no capacity to spare for anything else.
The numerical gap between the two sides was simply too vast. Even with the stat bonuses from the Magic Tower—bonuses that let a single Zero Wing elite take on three opponents—it still wasn't enough. And the Black Water side had an overwhelming concentration of expert players; several elites working together would probably still struggle against a single one of those veterans.
…
"Guild Master, we've assembled ten thousand men and are advancing on Zero Wing's base. We can storm in at any moment." Zui Xiao Ke approached Qi Yitao and delivered his report. "Additionally, the Tianzang Guild has dispatched fifty thousand elite troops. They should arrive at Stone Forest Town within ten minutes or so. Once they lock down the Resurrection Temple, even if Zero Wing's members in Stone Forest Town respawn, they won't be able to stir up any trouble. They'll just have to watch us take the town."
"Good. Now destroy Zero Wing's base for me." Qi Yitao sat atop his warhorse, gazing at the army ringed around Zero Wing's base, and felt a deep sense of satisfaction. "Isn't this guy Hei Yan supposed to be some incredible fighter? Once the base is razed, use the goblin cannons to blast open the underground chamber."
He had to admit that Hei Yan was formidable. A single man holding the corridor of the underground chamber had left his forces completely helpless—even an expert from the Wansheng Temple had fallen there.
Dragging it out would eventually wear Hei Yan down too, of course, but Qi Yitao didn't want to wait any longer.
The biggest advantage of occupying a town was the respawns—thirty minutes and they came back in full. The longer the fight dragged on, the more it favored Zero Wing, so he had no intention of wasting any more time.
