Chapter 934: You're Asking Me, So Who Am I Supposed to Ask?

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 729 words

"Ghost Girl!" Little Ghost heard her scream, and he grew frantic, but he didn't stop running.

"Hey! You in front! You never finished telling that urban legend!" Little Ghost sprinted with everything he had, but he still couldn't catch up to Old , so he shouted at the top of his lungs: "You said once someone befriends the Ghost Student, the Ghost Student will leave — but what happens to the person who befriends the Ghost Student in the end?"

Little Ghost might not have dared to go back for Ghost Girl, but it was clear he still cared about her.

"The Ghost Student only comes back on Ghost Festival. Once it's found a friend, it naturally leaves with that friend."

" holy crap! That means whoever befriends the Ghost Student dies!" Little Ghost slowed his pace, wanting to go back and rescue Ghost Girl.

"You could also look at it from another angle — maybe your friend will become the new Ghost Student. Doesn't that make it a little less scary to think about?"

"You're full of it!"

"Not my sister — Ghost Girl." Old Zhou clutched his chest, running at full speed yet still managing to hold a normal conversation.

The group of seven had in the blink of an eye become five. Behind them in the corridor, the Ghost Student's cries hadn't stopped, though everyone could clearly sense that the Ghost Student had slowed down.

"We can't just keep running around blindly!" At this critical moment, Bai Buhui stepped forward. Just now his emotions had been swept up, and he'd followed Old Zhou and deep into the school building: "Even if we're going to flee, we should flee toward the library. Liu Kang is over there, and we need to regroup with him as soon as possible!"

"But do you know where the library is?" Old Zhou leaned against the wall, gasping for air.

"No, but we can ask." Bai Buhui pulled out his phone, turned on the built-in flashlight, and aimed it down the long corridor behind them: "I've watched plenty of horror movies, played tons of horror games, and I design haunted houses myself. What just happened couldn't have been simple projection tracking — it has to be a real person in costume!"

"What are you saying?"

"Since it's a real person in costume, then no matter how terrifying it looks, there's no reason for us to be afraid!" The hand holding his glasses was trembling. Beneath his calm exterior, his nerves were anything but steady: "We're just going through a haunted house. As long as we believe everything is fake, there's nothing to be scared of!"

His repeated declarations sounded more like he was psyching himself up. By now, the Ghost Student had chased them from the other end of the corridor.

The figure wore an eerie school uniform, yet its body always carried an unreal, phantom-like quality.

"Let's be friends!"

"I refuse to believe this nonsense!" Bai Buhui gritted his teeth. He held up his phone and deliberately blasted the Ghost Student with the bright light.

In the dim corridor, the flashlight beam was especially blinding.

Bathed in the light, the Ghost Student moved even faster, and its body appeared even more ethereal.

"Ahhh!"

Bai Buhui screamed at the Ghost Student. It charged through the light and rushed straight to him.

The horrifying face in Bai Buhui's pupils kept growing larger, and then it passed straight through his body.

Having found two friends, the Ghost Student's obsession had grown very faint. With its last bit of power, it passed through Little Ghost's body as well, and then vanished without a trace.

"Fake? A projection?"

Bai Buhui's legs had gone rigid, his face drenched in cold sweat.

That moment had nearly terrified him into fainting. Fortunately, his willpower was extraordinary, and he managed to hold on.

"Brother Bai? Are you okay?" Little Ghost didn't even realize that his way of addressing Bai Buhui had changed. "What the heck was that just now? That was way too realistic — how does this haunted house pull off something like that?"

"It's just simple visual technology used to create a similar effect. We have scenes in our Virtual Future theme park that are even scarier than that." Bai Buhui let out a dismissive laugh, desperately trying to get feeling back into his numb legs.
