Chapter 2027. War in the Demon Realm — Trapping the Enemy

July 20, 2013 · 6 min read · 1,191 words

When Han Li saw this, a vague sense of unease stirred within him. With a flicker of his spiritual sense, the thirteen purple-patterned Gold Devouring Beetles that had been hovering above his head immediately let out a collective buzz and shot outward as streaks of purple light.

As for the golden-furred giant ape itself, it stomped one foot down upon the void and its massive frame hurtled forward like a violent gale. Its arm swept out, and dense golden fist-shadows surged forth in a torrential flood.

Yet whether it was the purple beetles or the fist-shadows, the instant they made contact with the rings of seven-colored light, they produced a series of muffled booms and were flung back one after another.

They simply could not penetrate the seven-colored radiance by even the slightest degree!

At this moment, the strands of law power lingering in the surrounding void had grown even more pronounced. The dazzling, prismatic light emanating from the seven-colored glow seemed to dye the entire sky in a riot of color, giving rise to an unsettling feeling of profound wrongness.

The ape's eyes flashed coldly at the sight of its fist-shadows proving useless, but its charging figure did not slow in the slightest. Instead, with a thunderous roar, its body swelled to an inconceivable size.

In the span of a few breaths, the giant ape had grown four to five hundred zhang tall. It then drew in a mighty breath, its chest bulging high, and opened its gaping maw— A white, mist-laden wave erupted from its throat. At first it was utterly silent, but once it had traveled ten zhang from the ape's mouth, a world-shaking detonation exploded outward.

The youth at the lead and the other avatar barely had time for the sound to register in their ears before a deafening boom assaulted them. Their eardrums rang so violently that their bodies trembled and they nearly lost their footing.

Wherever the white wave passed, the void grew hazy and indistinct. In certain places, space itself twisted and deformed, as though the entire fabric of reality were on the verge of collapse.

This was the other great divine ability the Mountain Giant Ape transformation had bestowed upon Han Li after his advancement to the mid-stage of Body Integration — the Vajra Roar.

Unlike most other techniques, this was a purely sonic-wave art, and its might was staggering beyond imagination. When unleashed at full power, it even carried the possibility of shattering the void itself.

This had been Han Li's other prepared trump card against the Colorful Light Tower, and so the moment he sensed the situation had turned dire, he activated this ability without the slightest hesitation.

The white sonic wave met the seven-colored glow and immediately sank silently into the luminescence.

A deep humming roar erupted from within the seven-colored radiance. The golden runes that had been floating inside suddenly flickered and scattered, dissolving into nothing, while the glow itself flickered wildly, appearing as though it could shatter at any moment.

The Blood Light avatar that had only just recovered from the initial blast of the roar saw this and hurriedly formed a hand seal, attempting to drive the small tower once more.

But at that exact moment, the giant ape's face twisted into a grim smile, and its single free hand snapped into a different seal.

On the other side, the Myriad Demon Golden Body that had been locked in fierce battle with the gray serpent suddenly had countless silver runes emerge across its surface. Points of spiritual light flickered and danced, lending it an air of unfathomable mystery.

The gray serpent lunged with its maw agape, but the Golden Body's six arms swept in a wide arc and its entire form dispersed like dust on the wind, vanishing into thin air.

This left the transformed youth at the lead momentarily stunned. He had been about to rush forward and deploy a fearsome technique to assist the serpent in finishing off the Golden Body first.

But at that very instant, he heard a buzzing sound. Alarmed, he quickly turned his gaze toward the source.

Thirteen enormous beetles were hurtling toward him with terrifying ferocity. Before they even drew near, each one opened its mouth wide.

Bursts of purple silk shot from their jaws, flashing through the air and arriving in the blink of an eye.

At some unknown moment, Han Li had secretly directed these spirit insects to this very spot.

The lead youth's heart clenched with alarm. He swept one hand upward in a grand gesture, and the four blood-red wings on his back fanned forward without hesitation toward the approaching beetles.

The sea of blood below let out a shrill howl as an enormous wave surged upward, forming a barrier directly in front of the youth.

But these purple strands seemed to be something utterly beyond ordinary. Upon striking the blood wave, only a small portion dissolved into green smoke and vanished — the vast majority simply hissed straight through, piercing the barrier as though it were not there.

In a flash, the purple silk had closed to within arm's reach of the youth.

The lead youth's expression hardened. His limbs remained still, but the eight pale-green ghost heads strung like a necklace around his neck let out a piercing wail and shot outward. Spinning rapidly, they merged into a single enormous green ring — the eight ghost heads facing outward, a luminous, spectral band linking them together into one cohesive whole.

The purple silk was still hurtling forward. The two ghost heads facing the incoming strands merely opened their mouths, and sprays of silver motes erupted forth.

The purple strands flashed straight into the barrage and were swept up by the silver stars, drawn into the ghost heads' maws.

Moreover, the remaining six ghost heads let out savage shrieks, and an incalculable storm of wind blades geysered from their mouths.

Each blade was no larger than a palm, their surfaces thick and crystalline, and they shot forward like countless white threads piercing through the void, slashing densely upon the purple beetles' bodies.

But all that could be heard was a cascade of bright, clanging sounds — these seemingly devastating wind blades were deflected one after another, bouncing off the beetles' hideous carapaces without even leaving a single white scratch upon their surface.

The lead youth's face tightened at the sight, a jolt of alarm running through him, but there was no time for further thought. He raised one hand and fired off several consecutive seals at the green ghost-head ring.

The eight ghost heads' wailing intensified dramatically. Their skulls shook with renewed vigor, and abruptly eight blood-red figures burst forth from the ghost heads and flickered into the swarm of beetles.

They were eight blood ghosts — naked and monstrous, with great horns jutting from their skulls.

Their eyes glowed an eerie green, their fingertips were sharp as blades, and with the slightest wave of their arms, rolling clouds of blood mist surged outward. At the same time, frigid claw-shadows filled the entire sky.

In an instant, they had plunged into battle with the beetles.
