"So these are the Myriad Demon Cavalry — the rumors are true after all! The demons besieging our Heavenly Abyss City have only sent low-rank demon beasts, but the true elites have been dispatched to sweep the outposts nearby. Most of these demon knights possess cultivation on par with Golden Core or Nascent Soul, yet through a secret demonic symbiosis technique performed with the beast mounts beneath them, their combined power can multiply several times over. Any human cultivator of the same rank who encounters them is absolutely no match. Even Deity Transformation or Void Refinement cultivators, once besieged in large numbers by this cavalry, have no choice but to flee. And I've heard these demon elites are proficient in coordinated formation tactics — once they deploy a great formation of ten thousand riders or more, even beings of our caliber would find them a tremendous headache. There are over a hundred thousand Myriad Demon Cavalry here. No wonder Yitian City was so desperate in crying out to us for aid." Fairy Silverlight's eyes flickered as she spoke, her tone heavy with gravity.
"The most troublesome ones probably aren't these Myriad Demon Cavalry — they are!" Han Li's mouth twitched, and he suddenly pointed a finger toward a cluster of massive black warships in the distance, his words laden with implication.
Though far fewer in number than the demon knights, these demons were likewise clad in armor — yet their lower bodies were those of beasts while their upper bodies were human, and each one bore three distinct heads and six arms.
The central head of each demon was identical to an ordinary human's, whether male or female, with features that were strikingly refined and bewitchingly beautiful. But the other two heads were utterly grotesque, like fowls of the abyss made manifest. The six arms each gripped a different weapon, and from their bodies emanated an astonishingly fierce killing aura that coalesced behind them into phantasmal shadows radiating gray light.
Looking closely, these shadows were nothing less than towering dharma projections of savage beasts, fangs bared and claws extended.
The largest spanned a hundred zhang; even the smallest exceeded ten zhang!
And every one of these bizarre demons wore a blank expression, their gazes cold and devoid of any emotion whatsoever.
"Kalun War Demons — it's actually those lunatics." Fairy Silverlight caught a clear glimpse and drew in a sharp breath. "There seem to be only a few thousand of them, but Yitian City is truly in serious trouble."
"The fall of Yitian City's two Supreme Elders likely had a great deal to do with these Kalun War Demons as well," Han Li said slowly, a grim look surfacing in his own eyes.
"The Kalun War Demons' reputation precedes them — we've naturally all heard of them long ago. I hear that among the demon race's many elite forces, these war demons rank comfortably within the top five. If those two fallen fellow cultivators were indeed pinned down by the Kalun War Demons and then ambushed and surrounded by other demon lords, it would indeed be nearly impossible to escape unscathed. But I must say, I'm rather curious to see the true strength of these war demons for myself." The alarm on Fairy Silverlight's face faded as she gazed at the Kalun War Demons amidst the distant demon army, murmuring to herself.
"Heh heh, if the Fairy wishes to see them up close, that shouldn't be too difficult." Han Li suddenly broke into a grin, jerking his chin slightly toward the distant demon host.
Almost at the same instant, the dense formation of black warships let out a collective droning hum. Then, with flashes of light from nearly every vessel, countless beams of black radiance erupted forth, hammering toward the towering walls of Yitian City in the distance.
A thunderous roar shook the air!
The battered surface of Yitian City's walls blazed to life with formations of every color, layer upon layer of brilliant luminous barriers rising to intercept those seemingly devastating beams. Black suns detonated against the formations' surfaces, erupting into innumerable shockwaves that dimmed the entire sky.
Then, at that very moment, earth-shaking war drums boomed forth from the warships. A hundred colossal demon beasts — each one the size of a small mountain — surged out from within the vessels, charging forward with overwhelming ferocity.
Each of these beasts stood over a hundred zhang tall, their forms resembling black rhinoceroses scaled up a hundredfold. With low, rumbling roars, they charged headlong without pause, seemingly intent on obliterating the walls ahead through sheer mass alone!
Simultaneously, swarms of low-rank demon beasts poured from the other warships in a veritable flood, surging forward in the wake of the super beasts.
In an instant, demonic qi roiled in rolling clouds, and ten thousand beasts bellowed in unison!
Row upon row of human warriors appeared along the battlements of Yitian City. As they raised bow- and crossbow-shaped ranged weapons, fireballs, ice cones, and wind blades launched in dense volleys toward the demon beast army.
The beasts at the forefront, subjected to several rounds of this bombardment, were knocked from the sky with scarcely any ability to resist. They either dissolved into sprays of blood and perished on the spot, or were reduced to charred husks and frozen chunks, clinging feebly to life.
In the blink of an eye, the demon beast army had lost tens of thousands of low-rank beasts, and the entire vanguard of the assault stuttered to a halt.
But those rhinoceros-shaped super beasts — the most eye-catching of them all — were utterly indifferent to the human warriors' attacks!
A thick, dense layer of yellow luminous armor materialized around their bodies. The attacks that struck it served only to make it flicker wildly, having absolutely no effect whatsoever.
In the blink of an eye, the hundred-plus colossal beasts had closed to the base of the walls. They lowered their heads and drove the pitch-black horns on their snouts forward with violent force.
Hundreds of piercing shrieks rang out simultaneously as semicircles of dark, hazy light manifested upon the horns of every beast. Then, with a violent toss of their heads, the dark halos vanished from where they had been.
The next instant, spatial fluctuations rippled across the surface of Yitian City's colossal walls. The dark halos erupted outward as massive crescent blades of black light, emitting eerie shrieks as they slashed savagely into the defensive formations plastered across the wall.
A chorus of tearing sounds filled the air!
The luminous barriers conjured by the formations proved as fragile as paper before these dark halos, each one cleaved apart with ease. The black blades plunged into the walls themselves, tearing open cracks dozens of zhang long.
Any human warriors unfortunate enough to be standing within those cracks were obliterated without the slightest resistance, not even a speck of dust remaining.
