Chapter 71: Freak of Nature

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 709 words

The secret chamber descended into utter chaos. Furious roars and the sounds of fists and feet landing in rapid succession filled the air, punctuated by the occasional muffled grunt and splatters of fresh blood.

As the old saying goes, two fists are no match for four hands. Yang Kai's strength was already far inferior to these five, and fighting them all at once, how could he possibly keep himself unscathed?

For every strike he landed, he had to endure four or five in return.

And these Law Enforcement Hall disciples showed no mercy—every blow was aimed to hurt. They had no intention of killing Yang Kai, but after this kind of beating, anyone would be bedridden for at least a month or two.

"Stop!" After a long while, the Qi Movement Realm Law Enforcement Hall disciple suddenly barked in fury, leaping out of the fray. "Stop hitting him! Keep going and you'll beat him to death."

The other four hastily retreated as well, staring down at Yang Kai, who had been beaten to the ground. There was a hint of wariness in their eyes.

"Damn it!" One of them clutched his cheek. "He slapped me—nearly knocked my teeth out."

Another was clutching his crotch, his face pale with lingering fear. "I damn near lost the ability to have kids. If I hadn't dodged fast enough, I'd be the one lying down right now."

Even though he had avoided the vital spot, his inner thigh still burned with searing pain. The kick Yang Kai had mustered in desperation had been devastating—just thinking about it now sent a chill down his spine.

The five of them looked at one another, all stunned. Because in this fight where the gap in strength should have been overwhelming, they had taken Yang Kai down, yes—but every single one of them bore marks of the struggle.

This realization stunned all five. Their expressions turned embarrassed. This was too humiliating, wasn't it?

A Trial Disciple at only Kaiyuan Realm Stage Three—how could he be this vicious? They hadn't thought much of it while ganging up on him, but looking back now, it seemed almost unbelievable.

"Ptah—" A sound drew their attention. Yang Kai, who should have been sprawled on the ground, was trembling as he struggled to his feet, spitting out a mouthful of blood.

His body flickered between bright and dark, shifting ceaselessly. A faint red glow shimmered about him, and a wave of scorching heat washed over them—like a volcano that had slumbered for millennia, suddenly erupting.

"That energy fluctuation…" The Qi Movement Realm disciple's face twisted in alarm. "Something's wrong."

This was no fluctuation a Kaiyuan Realm Stage Three disciple could produce. It had clearly reached the peak of Kaiyuan Realm—and one step further would put him at the Qi Movement Realm.

"He can still stand?!" One beside him nearly bit off his own tongue, his eyes bulging. Even he himself—if he'd been beaten like that, he probably wouldn't have the strength to twitch a finger. How was this kid on his feet?

"He's coming!" another suddenly screamed. Before the words had even left his mouth, the trembling Yang Kai erupted into a gust of wind and charged straight at the five of them.

Mid-charge, Yang Kai's fist turned blazing red, like a branding iron pulled straight from the coals.

The one who had shouted channeled every ounce of his Yuan Qi and threw a punch to meet Yang Kai head-on.

BOOM!

The man went flying backward, slamming into the wall before crumpling to the ground. Blood welled up in his throat and spilled from his lips. Yang Kai barely paused before locking onto his second target.

"How dare you!" The Qi Movement Realm leader was consumed with rage. Five senior disciples against one junior—and not only had they failed to take him down, they were being counterattacked? If word of this got out, what would people think? Where would they save face?

Furious, the Qi Movement Realm disciple thrust his palm forward, sinking his qi to his dantian, and roared: "Wind Whirl Force!"

The secret chamber was instantly torn apart by shrieking winds. From his palm, a miniature tornado visible to the naked eye erupted outward, heading straight for Yang Kai's fist.
