Chapter 61: Repaying a Favor

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 704 words

Why would Long Zaitian target him? Yang Kai glanced at Hu Meier, whose eyes were filled with apology and guilt, and a vague understanding settled in his heart.

Some things didn't need to be asked.

Hu Meier was a clever and perceptive woman. Even though Yang Kai had only looked at her once, she understood what he meant.

"Grandpa Long won't let you into the mining district, and I can't really go against his wishes. How about this — I'll go buy those seeds for you. Just wait here for me a moment," Hu Meier said softly.

"Alright." Yang Kai knew this was the only option. He immediately took out everything valuable he had on him, then told Hu Meier the names of those Blood Battle Gang disciples who had found the seeds. He had already gotten that information from the stall owner at the Black Wind Market.

Hu Meier went into the underground mining district. Yang Kai's eyes swept toward the small buildings on the surface. Just moments ago, Long Zaitian had entered one of them, and he could feel a pair of eyes watching him from inside.

Inside the building, an old man and a young man both stood by the window, gazing toward Yang Kai.

The old man was none other than Long Zaitian, who had just attacked Yang Kai. The young man looked about Yang Kai's age — he was Long Zaitian's grandson, Long Hui!

Long Hui stared at Yang Kai with a cold expression and said discontentedly, "Grandpa, why didn't you just kill him just now?"

Long Hui snorted coldly, "Meier was shielding him. How was I supposed to kill him?"

"All the more reason to do it. I've never seen Meier care so much about any man before. That brat has a good relationship with Meier — leaving him alive will definitely be trouble."

"Hmm, I've never seen Meier protect anyone like this before. This time she even talked back to me for his sake. That's unusual." Long Zaitian furrowed his brow slightly.

Long Hui was consumed with jealousy. "Meier's gone into the mining district now. Grandpa, why don't you strike again?"

Long Zaitian looked at Long Hui with a mixture of exasperation and disappointment. "I can certainly strike, and killing him would be effortless. But if his death makes Meier resent you, do you think it would be worth it?"

Long Hui froze for a moment, then shook his head. "It wouldn't be. But am I just supposed to let him keep getting closer to Meier? I can't stand it."

"You!" Long Zaitian couldn't help but sigh. "Learn a thing or two from your big brother. Watch how he handles the woman he wants. If you want Meier, you need to put in the effort. Grandpa can kill people for you, but I can't win a woman's heart on your behalf. Hu Man has no sons — only his two daughters, Jiao'er and Meier. If you and your big brother can win them both, then the Blood Battle Gang will belong to our Long family! Our family has served the Blood Battle Gang for decades across three generations. It's about time we tasted what it's like to be in charge!"

Long Hui felt a surge of excitement. "It's about time our Long family took the reins. Don't worry, Grandpa — Meier won't get away. Big brother will definitely win over Hu Jiao'er too."

"Good. That's the spirit." Long Zaitian nodded with a smile.

Long Hui glared resentfully at Yang Kai in the distance, still itching to make a move. "Grandpa, then this person..."

"Find your own opportunity. His strength isn't high — you can handle him."

"Yes!" Long Hui let out a cold laugh.

He couldn't act now, since Hu Meier would be coming back out soon. But since that brat was a disciple of Lingxiao Pavilion, he wasn't going anywhere.

Yang Kai didn't have to wait long before Hu Meier emerged from the mining district, glistening with sweat and wearing a bright smile. She pressed four seeds into his hand. "Happy to report — mission accomplished."

When the young miss of the Blood Battle Gang wanted to buy something, those disciples wouldn't have dared to refuse.
