It was only after he was done that Yang Kai suddenly came to his senses. These two... how could he have just laid hands on them? One puff of breath from them and he'd probably turn to ash.
He had been so blinded by anger that he'd had no other thoughts at the time — he'd simply wanted to teach these two mischievous little ones a lesson.
Brother Yellow and Sister Blue had indeed been beaten silly. Both were clutching their heads with both hands, staring blankly at Yang Kai, momentarily speechless.
This was probably the first time in their entire existence that anyone had hit them like this.
Yang Kai snapped back to reality as well, gazing at the two small figures before him. A sudden realization struck — despite them insisting he call them Brother Yellow and Sister Blue, despite their domineering ways and their status as two of the most powerful existences in all the world, when it came down to it, they had always been children in temperament.
Even an ancient Supreme like Ink had a childish streak, and how were Zhuo Zhao and You Ying any different?
They were not of the human race, after all. They had never experienced the tempering of the mortal world, and the countless millennia of solitude had not allowed their minds to mature much at all.
He had unilaterally pinned his hopes of defeating Ink on them, even demanding that they merge with one another — when had he ever once asked for their opinions?
The them of now were Brother Yellow and Sister Blue. But if they truly merged, what would they become? The First Light of the world?
A faint sense of guilt stirred in his heart. He sighed and reached out to ruffle their small heads.
The two seemed to sense Yang Kai's emotional shift. Brother Yellow tilted his head to dodge Yang Kai's large hand and said, "If we could truly merge, we would have figured it out long before now. Why would we need you to remind us?"
Sister Blue nodded as well, but she didn't dodge Yang Kai's hand. Instead, she narrowed her eyes slightly, looking thoroughly content.
"But..." Brother Yellow's tone shifted. "My sister and I have been having some rather strange feelings these past years."
"What feelings?" Yang Kai asked.
Brother Yellow thought for a moment, seemingly weighing his words carefully, before finally saying, "When our consciousness was still dim, we had a faint memory. It seemed as though my sister and I once coexisted in some place, but one day we suddenly left that place, and afterwards we appeared in the Domain of Annihilation."
Yang Kai's eyes lit up. "What kind of place was that?"
Brother Yellow shook his head. "Our minds were still hazy back then. We only have some very vague memories. We can't remember clearly."
Sister Blue chimed in, "Actually, I don't think we left that place. It was more like we were abandoned."
"Abandoned?" Yang Kai felt an inexplicable chill. Beings as powerful as these two — they had probably been this strong since the very moment they were born. How could they possibly have been abandoned?
But the only thing he could be certain of now was that Brother Yellow and Sister Blue were connected to that First Light of the world. Otherwise, their combined power would never have been able to restrain the power of Ink so effectively.
The First Light and Ink were fundamentally opposing existences.
Cang had once said that the First Light should have long since gained sentience. It might no longer exist in the form of light — perhaps it was a tree, a flower, or even any other thing in the world.
Putting together what Sister Blue had said, Yang Kai suddenly arrived at a bold conjecture.
Could it be that after gaining sentience, the First Light had stripped the Solar Power and Lunar Power from within itself and cast them away? The Solar Power became Zhuo Zhao, and the Lunar Power became You Ying. If that was the case, then where was the First Light itself now?
The fact that Brother Yellow and Sister Blue could not control their own power might also be related to this. They were themselves parts of the First Light, and having been separated, they were now incomplete. Without completeness, they naturally could not control their own power — which was why the Solar and Lunar forces were locked in endless opposition.
If that was truly the case, why had the First Light cast Brother Yellow and Sister Blue away? And in what form did it exist in the world now?
He couldn't make sense of it at all. Yang Kai suddenly thought of something else and asked, "The world reveres the two of you as the Common Ancestor of All Sacred Spirits. Is it truly the case that you two propagated the bloodlines of the various Sacred Spirits?"
Sister Blue's small face immediately flushed crimson. "We're still children — what kind of nonsense are you spouting?"
Brother Yellow also stammered, "D-don't talk rubbish — we're brother and sister!"
Sister Blue corrected him, "Sister and brother! It's sister and brother!"
...
The two started bickering again. Yang Kai stroked his chin, lost in thought. Before he had met Brother Yellow and Sister Blue, he hadn't given much thought to the claim that Zhuo Zhao and You Ying were the Common Ancestor of All Sacred Spirits. But after having met these two back then, he had grown very skeptical of that notion. How could these two possibly have propagated the bloodlines of the Sacred Spirits? And with so many different kinds of Sacred Spirits, there was no way they could have produced them all.
Now it seemed that this so-called Common Ancestor of All Sacred Spirits was probably nothing more than a misunderstanding spanning the ages. However, the reason Yang Kai's Dragon Vein Power had been able to advance so quickly was indeed related to the power they had bestowed upon him all those years ago. Their power truly did enhance the growth of Dragon Vein Power.
This proved that they did have some connection to the Sacred Spirits — but not as the Common Ancestors that legend claimed them to be.
There were simply too many ancient secrets. Unless one had lived in that era, it was impossible to uncover the truth.
