Chapter 5479: One Man Holds the Pass

January 17, 2020 · 6 min read · 1,152 words

In less than half a day, this Ink Giant God Spirit that had burst through from the Broken Sky into the Void Domain arrived at the location of the breach.

Here lay the corpse of another Ink Giant God Spirit — the Ink avatar that had escaped from the Primordial Heaven Great Seal. After its death, the dense Ink power that had dissipated from its body had condensed into an Ink Sea, shrouding a vast expanse of the void.

It was precisely under the cover of this Ink Sea that the Ink Clan had managed to slip three Eighth-Order Ink Servants out undetected, with the Human Race none the wiser.

By now, every aspect of the Ink Clan's scheme was in motion. The Human Race could no longer prevent what was to come.

The Ink Giant God Spirit had charged straight through, and nothing in the Human Race could stand in its way. Even the Sacred Spirits seemed frail and powerless before such an entity.

Upon reaching this place, it opened its mouth and inhaled. The enormous Ink Sea was immediately drawn toward it, converging into its maw like a whale swallowing the ocean.

In mere moments, the Ink Sea that had filled the void was devoured clean. Nourished by the residual Ink power of the avatar, this already terrifyingly powerful Ink Giant God Spirit seemed to grow even stronger by a full three-tenths.

Without the Ink Sea's concealment, the situation in the area around the breach was laid bare for all to see.

A vast stretch of void stretched like a thin membrane, its surface rippling and shimmering with distorted light. Behind that shimmering surface, dense churning darkness was faintly visible, and with each surge of that darkness, the membrane warped and buckled further, as though it might shatter at any moment.

The numerous Ninth-Order Human Race experts watched with eyes blazing. They knew full well that the Ink Clan's plan had reached its final stage — if that membrane-like domain wall was breached, the Void Domain and the Fenglan Domain would be permanently connected.

Judging by the situation, it would not take long.

The Ink Clan's armies were converging from every direction, clearly intending to use the Ink Giant God Spirit as their vanguard to hold this area at all costs.

Both the Human and Ink Clans had never slacked in their contest for this patch of void. At present, it could be said that roughly eighty percent of both sides' total forces were gathered in its vicinity.

The control of this area had changed hands many times before — sometimes held by the Human Race, sometimes by the Ink Clan. Neither side had ever been able to maintain a lasting hold.

But now the situation was different.

The Ink Clan had gained an additional Ink Giant God Spirit, and after devouring the residual Ink power of the avatar, this one had grown even more formidable.

Reclaiming that patch of void from the Ink Clan would be no easy feat for the Human Race.

Under the orders of the Ninth-Order Grand Elders and Army Commanders, the various Human Race armies closed in on the area from all sides.

Powerful Sacred Spirits darted to and fro, coordinating with the armies to purge the Ink Clan. Secret arts and Artifacts blazed with their might, waves of life force withered and faded, rising and falling in succession.

Again and again, the Human Race's offensive was repelled. That single Ink Giant God Spirit that had charged in from the Broken Sky had shattered the balance of power between the two races all by itself.

It did not intervene often. While the soldiers of both sides clashed, it sat quietly in the void. But each time it struck, it carried the force of thunder — even Ninth-Order Open Heaven Realm cultivators could not stand against it. Only the combined might of the Dragon Emperor and Phoenix Queen could hold it at bay.

The battle raged like a wildfire, fierce and unrelenting, a symphony of fury and anguish.

Then, in a sudden instant, the Ink Giant God Spirit turned its head and gazed toward the breach. It let out a cold snort and brought its palm crashing down in that direction. The already fragile, membrane-like domain wall, subjected to that blow, could barely hold — cracks spread across its surface like a spider's web.

Not only that, but on the other side of the domain wall, Yang Kai was sent hurtling backward by the force transmitted through the void. He was blown tens of millions of miles before he finally stabilized himself.

Cursing under his breath, he activated the Space Laws and teleported, arriving once more before the near-shattered domain wall.

He had separated from the people of Fenglan Sect and the others earlier, following the coordinates to this breach. He had pushed deep inside to investigate and taken one look at the scene on this side. Not daring to waste a moment, he had immediately moved to reinforce and seal the breach. If he could succeed here, even if he couldn't say for certain that it would halt the Ink Clan's plans, at the very least he could buy some time.

There was also a dying man here — one who looked exactly like Ye Ming, whom Yang Kai had encountered in the Sacred Spirit Ancestral Land.

He did not know which Cave Heaven or Blessed Land this man hailed from, but he was an Eighth-Order cultivator.

Ye Ming had borne a fragment of Ink's split consciousness, using a secret technique to awaken the Ink Giant God Spirit. The burden had been too much for his body, and his life was forfeit.

Given Ye Ming's experience, Yang Kai could easily guess what had happened to this Eighth-Order cultivator.

This man had also borne a fragment of Ink's split consciousness! Now he had released it to corrode the domain wall connecting this place to the Void Domain.

Yang Kai's face turned ashen. All along, he had assumed that the Ink Giant God Spirit awakened in the Sacred Spirit Ancestral Land was headed here. The basis for that assumption was entirely what Lu An had told him before his death.

It was Lu An who had told him that the Void Domain's connections to the outside world were unstable, but if the Ink Giant God Spirit reached that passage, it could coordinate with the Ink Clan within the Void Domain to tear the passage wide open.

But now it appeared the Ink Clan's plan was nothing of the sort.

The Ink Giant God Spirit had no need to come here at all — because an Eighth-Order Ink Servant carrying a fragment of Ink's split consciousness was already here, eroding the domain wall.

How powerful was a fragment of Ink's split consciousness? Once ignited, how could a mere domain wall possibly withstand it?

Had Lu An deceived him?
