Chapter 5442: Fish and Bait

January 17, 2020 · 5 min read · 1,069 words

With 's current strength, slaying three Innate Domain Lords in succession at Azure Void Pass had still come at a considerable cost—a testament to just how powerful these Innate Domain Lords truly were.

Now, three Domain Lords had appeared, yet the human side didn't have a single Eighth Order among them. Under these circumstances, death was the only outcome awaiting them!

The Seventh Order who had been issuing orders clearly realized this as well. Once he accepted that escape was hopeless, he immediately roared once more: "Kill!"

In the span of just three breaths, two completely different orders had been given—both the most fitting judgment for the situation.

No one hesitated. The dozen or so squads that had been preparing to flee paused for only a moment before charging straight into the Clan army.

With no way out, killing one was breaking even, and killing two was profit!

Two squads even lunged directly at the Ink Clan Domain Lord bound by the Artifact's power, determined to kill him at any cost—only by doing so would their deaths carry the greatest value.

"Naive," the third Domain Lord who had appeared said coolly, striding forward. Just as he was about to take a step, a sudden alarm blared in his heart. A sensation of extreme danger enveloped him, plunging him into an icy abyss.

The last time he'd felt this way had been outside the Grand First Restriction, not long after he'd emerged from the darkness, locked in a bloody battle with the human race.

A Human Race Old Ancestor had casually slashed him with a single sword strike...

That sword had nearly claimed his life. Fortunately, the Human Race Old Ancestor had been preoccupied with dealing with the Royal Lord at the time and hadn't been targeting him specifically—otherwise, he wouldn't have survived.

More than five hundred years had passed, and that sensation had returned once more.

Though this Domain Lord didn't have extensive combat experience, his perception of danger was extraordinarily keen. Sensing the threat, he immediately channeled his Ink Force to shield himself.

But in the very next instant, the space around him seemed to freeze solid. His thoughts felt sluggish, as though some force was interfering with his mind.

Before he could react any further, a long spear had already grazed past his forehead, its violent force shearing away half his head!

It was only because he'd forced his head to twist at the last critical moment that the spear hadn't pierced clean through—otherwise, the blow would have blown his skull apart!

Even with such devastating injuries, he wasn't dead. If he escaped this ordeal and entered his Ink Nest to enter a deep slumber, he could make a full recovery in time.

Behind him, Yang Kai—who had failed to kill with a single thrust—clicked his tongue in dissatisfaction, far from pleased with his performance.

He'd been hiding in the shadows and launched a surprise attack, yet still hadn't managed to kill this Innate Domain Lord. Clearly, this opponent was no pushover.

But that was all he'd get.

With Yang Kai holding the initiative, half his head already gone, and the interwoven aura of multiple Grand Daos flooding the space around him, he had no power to fight back.

The Ink Clan Domain Lord who had barely survived hadn't even gotten a clear look at his attacker before he was ensnared in that invisible net woven from intersecting Grand Daos.

In that same instant, Yang Kai thrust his spear several times in rapid succession, then shot past the Domain Lord, charging toward the second Domain Lord who had appeared.

Behind him, the third Domain Lord who had appeared was already reduced to countless chunks of flesh, exploding apart!

The sudden turn of events left everyone stunned.

The Ink Clan side was shocked to their core, while the humans erupted in wild joy!

They had thought themselves doomed, but at the very precipice of despair, reinforcements had arrived—and this reinforcement was unimaginably powerful, instantly obliterating a formidable Domain Lord!

A Golden Crow's cry rang out as a dazzling sun blazed into existence. Yang Kai lifted the sun on the tip of his spear and hurled it at the burly Domain Lord who had appeared second.

Its might was overwhelming and unstoppable!

The Domain Lord roared wildly, Ink Force surging from every pore, and with a casual wave of his hand unleashed a devastating secret technique.

But in the next moment, his mind was struck with excruciating pain, as though some force had invaded and begun slicing through his Soul. Screaming in agony, even the Ink Force he had gathered began to show signs of dispersing.

Yang Kai's expression turned similarly savage. He knew that killing this Ink Clan Domain Lord wasn't beyond his current strength—but the key was that it would take time. The situation here was volatile, and he had no way of knowing whether the Ink Clan had other powerhouses hiding nearby. He needed to end this quickly.

The Soul-Sacrificing Thorn was the perfect tool for the job.

Having used this Soul Artifact many times before, Yang Kai had long since mastered it. All it cost was a small portion of his own Soul—and with the Warm Spirit Lotus on hand, there was nothing to worry about.

The enemy, however, was a different story. Struck by the Soul-Sacrificing Thorn, he instantly lost more than a fraction of his strength.

The instant the Ink Clan Domain Lord's Ink Force began to waver, the sun balanced on Yang Kai's spear smashed through his technique and slammed into his chest.

The power of the Golden Crow's Forged Sun erupted, engulfing the Ink Clan Domain Lord and forming an even more brilliant sun that lit up the surrounding void.

In the blink of an eye, the light faded. Yang Kai had already vanished without a trace, but the burly Domain Lord was left charred black, a massive crater torn through his chest—you could see clean through to the other side. His life force was draining rapidly, his eyes filled with agony and disbelief.

He couldn't quite believe it—an Eighth Order of the human race had killed him this quickly!

He had fought Eighth Orders before, and they were nothing special. With the exception of those rumored to be the very pinnacle of the Eighth Order, the rest were roughly on par with him—or in some cases, even weaker.
