The Ram-Headed Royal Lord clearly saw his own reflection staring back from those eyes, and an uncomfortable feeling immediately rose within him.
His heart tightened as he realized that this eye technique was likely far from ordinary—the reflection in those pupils was no simple reflection at all.
Just then, a sharp light flashed through Yang Kai's cross-shaped pupils, and he flashed a grin at him. "You're quite badly wounded. Must have been tough for you."
The Ram-Headed Royal Lord's face turned ashen.
When the sharp light had flashed through Yang Kai's eyes moments ago, he had felt an inexplicable sense of being probed. He cursed inwardly—this damned human and his eye technique truly were something extraordinary.
But Yang Kai paid him no further mind, instead studying his surroundings carefully. After a moment, he suddenly straightened up, swept his arms forward, and began swimming in a particular direction.
The Ram-Headed Royal Lord hastily followed.
He had granted Yang Kai the chance to practice his eye technique precisely for this moment. As for whether Yang Kai might try something during the process—that was a given.
Whether he could follow Yang Kai out of this place would depend entirely on his own skill.
And so the Ram-Headed Royal Lord observed Yang Kai's every movement with absolute focus, missing nothing. Wherever Yang Kai went, he followed, matching his direction and actions perfectly, as if he were Yang Kai's shadow with nothing more than a slight delay.
The World-Destroying Demon Eye had improved, and Yang Kai could finally see more deeply into the mysteries of this mist. But whether he could actually escape—he had no certainty.
What secrets truly lay hidden within this celestial phenomenon? No one could say for certain.
Another year passed.
Yang Kai searched for a way out in silence, and the Ram-Headed Royal Lord kept pace behind him with remarkable patience, maintaining a constant distance—neither too close nor too far.
Until, at some point, Yang Kai's figure vanished from the Ram-Headed Royal Lord's sight as suddenly as if everything before had been nothing more than an illusion.
Startled, he quickly composed himself and continued methodically retracing Yang Kai's prior movements and path.
At the same moment, Yang Kai felt his entire body grow light. The sense of danger that had hung over him for ten years vanished in an instant, and as far as his eyes could see, there was no more mist!
He was finally out!
Overjoyed, Yang Kai hesitated for the briefest instant between staying to ambush the Ram-Headed Royal Lord and fleeing immediately, then decisively chose the latter.
Ambushing the Ram-Headed Royal Lord here might well succeed, but with his current strength, delivering a single killing blow would still be exceedingly difficult.
If he failed to kill the Ram-Headed Royal Lord, he would inevitably be entangled again, and then escape would be impossible.
The other party still had a bit of time before he broke free. An ordinary warrior certainly couldn't get far in that window, but with the Laws of Space to aid him, Yang Kai had a very good chance of shaking him off.
With his decision made, Yang Kai no longer hesitated. He activated the Laws of Space, and his figure vanished on the spot.
Three breaths later, the Ram-Headed Royal Lord also emerged from the misty phenomenon. He looked around, but there was no trace of Yang Kai anywhere.
Having witnessed Yang Kai's many abilities, he knew full well that the other had teleported away. His face immediately turned livid.
This pursuit had been an utter failure. Not only had it consumed an enormous amount of time, but he had gained nothing in the end—and had wound up covered in wounds, his strength drastically diminished.
Now that the other had teleported away, finding him again would be virtually impossible.
Even so, the Ram-Headed Royal Lord was unwilling to retreat just like that. He silently probed the traces left by the Laws of Space, locked onto a direction, and shot off in pursuit.
He hadn't gone far when he faintly detected fluctuating energy waves ahead. Sensing them more carefully, he was overjoyed.
The source of those energy fluctuations was unmistakably that Seventh-Order human!
He had thought he'd lost the man for good, yet here was an unexpected turn. He didn't know what had befallen the Seventh-Order human, but since the man hadn't managed to escape, there was still a chance.
At this very moment, Yang Kai was so frustrated he could have coughed up blood.
He felt he had never been this unlucky in his entire life—he had barely escaped the wolf's jaws only to fall right into the tiger's den.
Though Spatial Teleportation was a secret art for escape and survival, it carried enormous unpredictability. In a familiar environment it was fine—Yang Kai could teleport precisely to wherever he wished. But in an unfamiliar one, it was pure luck, and he might encounter any manner of danger.
All this time, Yang Kai had never run into serious trouble when using Spatial Teleportation, but this time he had struck out.
He had teleported away from the misty phenomenon, and the last thing he'd expected was to materialize right inside a spider's nest.
The void held great beasts. Across the vast expanses of the void, all manner of bizarre Void Beasts made their homes. When Yang Kai had first leaped out from the Star Boundary years ago, he had encountered a Thousand-Jointed Worm and been swallowed along with Zhang Ruoxi. The two had been separated—Yang Kai was carried to Qiqiao Land, while Zhang Ruoxi endured great hardships to reach the Exquisite Blessed Land.
The reason Star Cities stationed powerful cultivators at their transit points was twofold: to inspect travelers and maintain order within the city, and to fend off Void Beasts drawn by the scent of human habitation.
That was why every Star City needed a considerable number of Open Heaven Realm cultivators guarding the transit points—to prevent any mishaps.
Over the years he had spent racing across the Three Thousand Worlds, Yang Kai had encountered plenty of Void Beasts. When he was weak, he had given them a wide berth; once he grew stronger, he no longer gave them a second thought.
When he arrived at the Ink Battlefield, he hadn't encountered any Void Beasts. After all, with the two races locked in perpetual war, even Void Beasts knew to seek advantage and avoid harm—they would not lightly venture into the void between the two factions.
