As she spoke, her tiny body suddenly lurched forward.
Yang Kai quickly reached out to steady her.
"I'm a bit sleepy..." The little girl rubbed her eyes with one chubby little hand, yawning. "Get back to the Pass quickly. Be careful on the way."
With that, her eyelids fell shut completely.
Yang Kai called out to her twice but received no response. Taking a closer look, he discovered that the tiny person before him had simply fallen asleep just like that.
He couldn't help but feel caught between laughter and exasperation. All he could do was scoop the little girl up in his arms, orient himself, and streak toward Yin Yang Pass.
In the battle just now, he hadn't played much of a role, but he'd still been wounded while holding off Mie Qiong. However, such injuries were no great matter for Yang Kai—even without deliberate recuperation, he would recover on his own.
He lowered his gaze to the bundle in his arms. The tiny person was curled up, sleeping peacefully, her face still pale as paper.
Yet who could have imagined that this very same little person had, in the span of an instant, slain three Ink Clan Domain Lords? Within that tiny body lurked the power of humanity's supreme being.
When Yang Kai had first met her, he'd only sensed the aura of a Void King Realm cultivator. He'd found it odd that a place as vast as Yin Yang Pass would have such a little girl, but she'd deceived him, claiming she'd been born within Yin Yang Pass, and Yang Kai had believed her.
And now, Yang Kai couldn't even sense the slightest trace of a cultivator's aura from her. She was like an ordinary person who had never cultivated at all.
He'd never encountered such a situation before. Yang Kai suspected it had to do with the cultivation technique the Supreme Ancestor practiced—perhaps upon sustaining grievous injuries, one would revert to youth as a means of healing.
He tried to place the little person into his Small Universe, only to discover it was completely impossible. Even though the Supreme Ancestor showed no trace of cultivation at present, her foundation as a Ninth-Order Open Heaven cultivator remained—not something his Small Universe could contain.
Since he couldn't store her in his Small Universe, he would have to be careful along the way, avoiding any clashes with the Ink Clan as much as possible.
Moreover, with the little girl in tow, Yang Kai didn't dare casually invoke the Space Law to perform Spatial Shifts. First, the expenditure was far too great—traveling alone using the Space Law was extremely convenient, but carrying someone else multiplied the cost of each shift severalfold. Second, the Supreme Ancestor was in a fragile state, and Yang Kai didn't know whether a Spatial Shift might affect her somehow.
Fortunately, his current cultivation at the Seventh-Order Open Heaven was no small thing, and his speed was nothing to scoff at. Even flying all the way back to Yin Yang Pass wouldn't take more than a month or two.
He pressed onward, steering clear of scattered Ink Clan patrols, and all went peacefully.
Three days later, Yang Kai suddenly felt movement from the little person in his arms.
He looked down to see the Supreme Ancestor rubbing her eyes, slowly coming to.
Yang Kai was overjoyed. "Supreme Ancestor, you're awake?"
The Supreme Ancestor's face was still pale, but it had improved somewhat compared to before—at least some color had returned.
The Supreme Ancestor let out a muffled "Mm," shifted to a more comfortable position in Yang Kai's arms, and asked casually, "Where are we?"
Yang Kai replied, "Still in Ink Clan territory. Yin Yang Pass is still far off—at least another month."
"Still that slow." The Supreme Ancestor's face scowled with displeasure.
Yang Kai felt somewhat awkward. "Why don't you sleep a bit longer? Maybe when you wake up, we'll be there."
The Supreme Ancestor strained to widen her eyes and shook her head. "Not sleepy. Not sleeping anymore."
Perhaps being carried in Yang Kai's arms wasn't comfortable enough—her tiny body squirmed several times, shifting through multiple positions without satisfaction, until she finally grabbed Yang Kai's arm, flipped over, and perched herself on his neck. Only then did she settle down.
Yang Kai immediately felt that something was deeply wrong.
If this little girl were truly just a seven- or eight-year-old child, riding on his neck like this wouldn't matter. The key point was that she was no ordinary little girl—she was the Supreme Ancestor of Yin Yang Pass!
A mighty powerhouse of the Supreme Ancestor level, riding on his neck like this—what kind of spectacle was that? If the people of Yin Yang Pass saw this, what would they think?
The Supreme Ancestor, on the other hand, was quite delighted. Her two little legs dangled against Yang Kai's chest, swinging back and forth ceaselessly as she looked around at the void on either side with keen interest, seemingly finding that this vantage point offered a better view.
But the depths of Ink Clan territory held no fine scenery. After looking around for a while, the Supreme Ancestor grew bored and patted Yang Kai's head with her little hand. "Hungry!"
"Huh?" Yang Kai thought he must have misheard.
"I'm hungry!" The little girl leaned down and shouted in Yang Kai's ear. "I want to eat buns!"
Yang Kai's eyelids twitched. "Where am I supposed to find buns for you?"
In this vast, empty void, there was nowhere to buy them. He had the distinct feeling that after reverting to a child, the Supreme Ancestor's temperament had undergone a dramatic change as well.
"I don't care! I want buns! I want to eat buns!" The little girl nagged on and on, like a petulant child throwing a tantrum.
Yang Kai was about to say there was nothing he could do when it suddenly occurred to him—this might be impossible for other Open Heaven cultivators, but his Small Universe was home to a large population of humans. What couldn't be found there?
With a flicker of his spiritual sense, he immediately located a bun shop in one of the prosperous cities within his Small Universe.
The next moment, he turned his palm over, and a steamer basket of buns appeared in his hand. He held it up and offered it to her. "Buns are here."
The little girl's face immediately lit up with a beaming smile. She took a bun and bit into it, then suddenly spat it out with a grimace. "Not tasty! I want delicious buns!"
Yang Kai's head throbbed like a drum! He suddenly began to understand why the Seventh- and Eighth-Order Open Heaven cultivators of Yin Yang Pass behaved with absolutely no air of masterful dignity among the common folk, each and every one of them appearing thoroughly worldly and mundane.
Serving a Supreme Ancestor like this—the people of Yin Yang Pass truly had it tough.
