"You want to be the head of Chi Xing?" Chen Tianfei stared at Yang Kai in astonishment, his face full of surprise. Like Yue He, he suspected he might have misheard. Simply promoting Yang Kai to minor squad leader had already been an extraordinary concession, but who could have imagined his appetite would be this enormous — aiming straight for the top position.
Chen Tianfei had truly never encountered anyone so presumptuous, and a trace of anger stirred within him.
"Does Master Chen think I'm not qualified?" Yang Kai glanced sideways at him.
Chen Tianfei said gravely, "All seven heads of Chi Xing are Open Heaven cultivators, Young Brother Yang. Your strength is certainly impressive, but you haven't reached Open Heaven yet, have you? If your realm isn't sufficient, even if you were placed in that position, how would you command anyone's respect?"
Yang Kai wagged his finger. "There are no Open Heaven cultivators in Taixu, Master Chen. Talking to me about realm is completely meaningless!"
Chen Tianfei said in a deep voice, "That may be so, but in all of Chi Xing's history, there has never been a head who hadn't reached the Open Heaven Realm!"
"There's always a first time, isn't there?"
Chen Tianfei stared intently at Yang Kai, his aura becoming ethereal and unfathomable. After a long moment, he burst into hearty laughter. "Young Brother Yang, what ambition! I've truly broadened my horizons today! There's no reason you couldn't be Chi Xing's head, but Chi Xing has its own rules. Currently Chi Xing has seven heads. If you want to add another seat, you'll need the approval of at least four of them!"
"Then I'll have to trouble Master Chen to take me to meet the other heads," Yang Kai said with a slight smile.
Chen Tianfei narrowed his eyes, a grin on his face. "Of course, of course. Taking you to see them is a small matter. Whether you can earn their approval, however, depends entirely on your own ability."
"Naturally!" Yang Kai nodded lightly and rose to his feet. "After you."
Chen Tianfei gave a smile that didn't reach his eyes, stood, and walked out.
Yang Kai followed close behind, and Yue He hurried to catch up. The three from Great Moon State saw this and no longer dared remain — they trailed after the group as well.
"What are you doing?" Yue He transmitted her voice secretly. "You're really going to meet Chi Xing's heads?"
"Of course! How else am I going to earn their approval?"
Yue He said irritably, "Can't you see that Chen Tianfei harbors ill intentions? This trip is bound to be a dragon's den and tiger's cave! And even if you really did become Chi Xing's head, what good would it do you? I simply can't understand what you're thinking."
"You'll find out when the time comes," Yang Kai replied casually.
Yue He snorted. "With your habit of recklessly charging into things, it's a miracle you've managed to stay alive this long!"
"This young master is destined for good fortune!" Yang Kai said with supreme confidence.
Yue He was left speechless with frustration!
Angry as she was, she still hurried to feed him whatever intelligence she had. She had never personally met Chi Xing's heads, but she had heard of them all. There was Madam Qin, who was a master of music, and Gan Hong, who excelled in the art of assassination. Then there were the Ouyang twins — the two brothers had cultivated together since childhood, both were fourth-grade Open Heaven cultivators, they thought as one mind and were extremely difficult to deal with. Even outside, with her strength, encountering them would give her a terrible headache.
Beyond those four, there was Bei Yushan, who possessed extraordinary natural talent and monstrous strength, and the Poison Lady, whose entire body was lethally toxic. "Please, Young Brother Yang. Most of Chi Xing's heads are inside!" Chen Tianfei gestured with his hand, a faint smile hanging on his face.
Yang Kai glanced at him and instructed Yue He, "Wait out here."
With that, he strode inside.
Yue He flickered forward. "I'm coming with you!" There was no way she would let Yang Kai walk into this dragon's den alone. She had already made up her mind to advance and retreat together with him, and now was certainly no time to back down.
