Chapter 3970. Confrontation

"Where did this mad dog come from, barking all over the place?" Yang Kai turned his head to look at Luo Haiyi.

Luo Haiyi transmitted her voice: "I don't know where this Young Master Hai comes from either, but he seems to have quite the background. It's his first time visiting this star city, so he hired me as a guide."

Yang Kai said "oh" — he'd thought the two were well-acquainted, but it turned out to be nothing more than a client-guide relationship. Just like himself last time, the man was unfamiliar with the star city and had sought out someone who knew the area.

No wonder the guy had shown up talking about being abandoned. It seemed Yang Kai had inadvertently gotten Luo Haiyi into trouble — when he'd sent word asking her for help, she must have rushed back in a hurry, which had irritated this Young Master Hai enough to follow her and see what was going on.

As for the man's background, Yang Kai could tell that this Young Master Hai had significant backing — otherwise, how would he have two Third-Order Open Heaven cultivators guarding him?

He wasn't in the mood to argue with the man, so Yang Kai said, "Young Master Hai, is it? Miss Luo has other important matters to attend to and won't be able to continue serving as your guide. You'll have to find someone else."

Young Master Hai sneered, "You say she can't, so she can't? Did you bother to ask for my opinion?"

Yang Kai narrowed his eyes slightly. "And what is your opinion?"

Young Master Hai said with a cruel grin, "You take my money, don't even serve me properly, and think you can just walk away? It's not that simple."

"How much was he paying you?" Yang Kai turned to ask Luo Haiyi.

Luo Haiyi kept her head down. "Three spirit pills."

Yang Kai nodded and flicked three Open Heaven Pills over. "Young Master Hai, here are three Open Heaven Pills. Consider the debt repaid — we're even!"

Neither Young Master Hai nor the two Third-Order Open Heaven cultivators moved to catch the pills. They didn't even spare them a glance, letting all three fall to the ground.

Young Master Hai chuckled. "Open Heaven Pills? I have as many of those as I want. I feed more than three a day to my dogs — do you really think I care about this?"

Yang Kai frowned. "There are plenty of guides in this star city. You can find one anywhere — why be so overbearing?"

"So what if I like being overbearing?" Young Master Hai looked at Yang Kai with an arrogant sneer. "If you don't want to die, get lost — this is none of your business. But if you do want to die, I'd be happy to send you on your way!"

"And what would it take for you to let this go?" Yang Kai felt annoyed. He despised this Young Master Hai's domineering personality, but with two Third-Order Open Heaven cultivators at his side, the man did have some basis for his arrogance.

"She stays and spends a full day and night with me obediently, and I'll pretend this never happened. Otherwise, you won't be able to bear the consequences!" Young Master Hai pointed a finger at Luo Haiyi.

The moment those words left his lips, Luo Haiyi's body trembled. She understood his intentions all too well, and her face went pale.

The reason she'd rushed back so quickly upon receiving Yang Kai's message was that, while serving as this Young Master Hai's guide, the man had been dropping hints and innuendos that made her deeply uncomfortable and insecure. So after getting Yang Kai's message, she'd apologized and even returned the three Open Heaven Pills as payment before making her way back. She hadn't expected the man to chase her all the way here, refusing to let the matter drop.

Yang Kai's expression turned cold as well.

Reading the situation, Young Master Hai looked smug. Two mere nobodies daring to stand up to him — he'd teach them what happens when you crossed him.

Luo Haiyi was obviously someone from the very bottom of society — no backing, no strength. Kill someone like her and nobody would lift a finger for her. The young man beside her didn't look like anyone important either, dressed like a servant — probably some lackey from somewhere whose job was to pour tea and carry water.

As for Luo Haiyi, while he had some interest in her, it wasn't as though he absolutely had to have her. He came from a prestigious background — forget someone like Luo Haiyi who had only condensed Dao Marks at the Emperor Realm, even some Low-Order Open Heaven cultivators would willingly crawl into his bed and strip bare for him at the mere crook of his finger, all for profit.

So don't let his Dao Source Realm cultivation fool you — he had taken advantage of no fewer than a dozen Open Heaven realm women.

He was simply accustomed to others obeying his every command, revolving around him at all times. When someone suddenly defied his wishes, it naturally filled him with rage.

Yang Kai's eyelids were lowered, his expression dark and brooding. This led Young Master Hai to assume Yang Kai was feeling afraid, and he let out a cold snort. "Kid, if you know what's good for you, get lost. I can't be bothered with trash like you!"

Then he pointed at Luo Haiyi and ordered, "Seize this wretched wench for me!"

As the words fell, the middle-aged man on his left stepped forward. Luo Haiyi was terrified, her whole body trembling and her face drained of blood. She was debating whether to flee or beg for mercy when a figure flashed past her and blocked the way.

Yang Kai looked up and shouted in a cold voice, "Who dares move?"
