Chapter 3537: Strike First and Seize the Initiative

January 17, 2020 · 5 min read · 970 words

The Half-Saint had been slain, but the kill had left Bright Moon wounded further — something that would have been unthinkable under normal circumstances. An Emperor was so powerful that they could dispatch a Half-Saint with a mere gesture, yet Bright Moon was now coughing up blood ceaselessly. In other words, the Half-Saints present had already become capable of threatening this Star Boundary Emperor's life!

That was enough!

One or two Half-Saints were no match for him, but what about ten or twenty? The number of Half-Saints present far exceeded even that. They could bury him with sheer numbers alone.

Every Half-Saint who had come here had already made peace with the possibility of death. How could any of them shrink back just because a colleague had fallen?

That said, the death of that particular Half-Saint who had played the vanguard was not without effect. At the very least, the remaining Half-Saints no longer dared to act rashly. Everyone could see that though Bright Moon was far from his peak, he could still slaughter a few more Half-Saints without the slightest effort.

No one wanted to sacrifice themselves at this once-in-a-millennium opportunity only to hand the prize to someone else.

So after that Half-Saint's fall, the rest merely surrounded Bright Moon in a tight circle, retreating and following in tandem with his movements, but not a single one dared strike carelessly.

Message after message was sent out. Demon armies deployed across every corner of the Oututian Continent mobilized at once, marching toward Bright Moon's location.

The Half-Saints were unwilling to die for nothing, so they could only pin their hopes on the demonic armies under their command, letting the various forces continue whittling away at Bright Moon's strength. Sooner or later, this Emperor from the Star Boundary would be worn to exhaustion, and only then would the Half-Saints make their move to seize the opportunity.

In a single instant, when the first demonic army of several million arrived on the battlefield, one of the Half-Saints issued the attack command to the Demon Kings leading the charge without a moment's hesitation.

Those Demon Kings, despite their deep reluctance, dared not disobey. They could only grit their teeth and accept the order.

Roars shook the heavens as millions of soldiers took to the sky and spread out, filling the horizon like a plague of locusts — dense and endless.

Bright Moon heaved a sigh. The moonlight sword in his hand blazed with dazzling radiance, and with a few sweeping cuts through the air, he shattered the army of millions into pieces…

A second army had already arrived, followed by a third… and still more demonic legions poured in without end.

The sky and earth were stained crimson with blood. Under the flickering moonlight, tens of thousands of demons tumbled from the heavens with each passing moment. From a distance, the battlefield looked as though it were raining.

Though the demonic casualties were staggering, what truly commanded everyone's attention was the tragic, heroic path of an Emperor.

"The Emperor of the Star Boundary is truly formidable," Bei Limuo remarked as she suddenly appeared beside Yu Rumeng, a note of admiration in her voice.

Yu Rumeng's delicate brows furrowed. She kept her guard up, wary of the other woman. The two of them had never been on good terms, and Bei Limuo choosing to approach now left Yu Rumeng uncertain of her motives. How could she not be vigilant?

With a soft hum, Yu Rumeng said, "If you were ever backed into a corner, I doubt you'd fare any better."

Bei Limuo shot her a sidelong glance and chuckled lightly. "Is little sister cursing me? How could I ever end up in such a predicament?"

Yu Rumeng said coldly, "You can't be sure of that. Who knows — one day you might fall for some trick or another."

Bei Limuo's expression darkened, irritation flashing across her face. "Spoken like a dog that can't spit out ivory. I was actually going to warn you about something, but now I think I'll pass."

Yu Rumeng frowned. "Warn me about what?"

Bei Limuo let out a dismissive snort, too lazy to bother with her.

Yu Rumeng eyed her suspiciously for a long moment. When Bei Limuo still showed no intention of speaking, she grew impatient. "If you have something to say, say it. Stop playing mysterious games!"

Bei Limuo paused for a moment, then sighed. "Ah, fine. Who told me to have such a kind heart?"

That nearly made Yu Rumeng laugh. Kind heart? If Bei Limuo was kind-hearted, then there wasn't a single wicked soul left under heaven. But she could sense that the woman genuinely had something to share, so she refrained from pressing further.

"Where's that little man of yours? Is he safe?" Bei Limuo asked, blinking at her.

Yu Rumeng's expression changed. She whipped her head toward the direction where Yang Kai was. The next instant, a tidal wave of divine sense swept outward. Barely ten breaths later, she gritted her teeth and cried out, "Yue Sang, you're courting death!"

With that, her slender figure swayed as she moved to rush over — only for a figure to suddenly step into her path. The newcomer was tall and lean, with flowing red hair and blood-red eyes that radiated an eerie glow. His complexion was slightly pale, yet a faint smile lingered at the corner of his lips.

Yu Rumeng narrowed her eyes slightly. "Xue Li, what's the meaning of this?"

Xue Li smiled calmly, answering her question with one of his own. "Where are you going?"

"That's none of your business. Get out of my way!" Yu Rumeng snapped.

Xue Li shook his head slowly. "Bright Moon's affair isn't over yet. You can't leave. Once Bright Moon is dead, then you may go."
