Several days had passed, and everything was calm. Before the realm gate, Yang Kai sat with closed eyes, his mind focused, motionless as a mountain. Yet the fluctuations of the Space Laws emanating from him never ceased, resonating in harmony with the realm gate on the other side.
This left Lao Ke, Yin, and the others watching from below in a state of amazement, while secretly growing more hopeful with anticipation. The current situation indicated that Yang Kai was deeply studying the secrets of the realm gate. If he achieved a breakthrough, he might actually be able to maintain this particular gate.
In truth, Yang Kai had made considerable gains over these past few days. He felt his mastery of the Space Laws advancing by leaps and bounds each day. Especially when the realm gate grew unstable, he was able to glimpse certain critical details normally hidden from sight, and when cross-referenced with his own insights, each discovery brought new understanding.
This really was an excellent place to cultivate the power of space. Had the realm gate been perfectly intact, it would never have produced such an effect. Only an unstable gate like this one could offer him any real benefit.
He had even stopped thinking about how to maintain the realm gate, instead immersing himself entirely in the pleasure of comprehension, peering into the mysteries of the void and absorbing nourishment that made him stronger.
Though the Demon Realm and the Star Realm were two vast worlds with slightly different natural laws, when broken down to a specific type of law, the principles converged. The Space Law was a perfect example.
Several more days passed, and though Yang Kai had given no further thought to the maintenance of the realm gate, he had developed some vague ideas about how to go about it. Of course, it was far too early to put these ideas into practice—he would need to study the secrets of the gate more carefully before he could have any real confidence.
At that moment, an abnormal fluctuation suddenly rippled through the realm gate before him, shattering the state he had maintained for days and jolting him from his meditative trance. His expression darkened as he barked, "Insolent!"
Lao Ke and Yin both changed color and flew up immediately.
Yang Kai turned to look at them, his gaze grim. "Go find out what Kosen has been doing! He can't even handle a small matter like this—what use is he to this King?"
The disturbance just now was clearly caused by someone crossing over from the realm gate on the Lanyuan Continent side. Otherwise, the gate would never have fluctuated on its own.
Lao Ke and Yin accepted the order and flew back down at once, gathering a team of subordinates to pass through the realm gate and investigate the Lanyuan Continent. Boya watched from the side with a smirk, clearly amused—Yang Kai had transferred her to this place, leaving her seething with frustration.
But before Lao Ke and Yin could depart with their team, a Demon King flew in from the left. Before even reaching them, he shouted at the top of his lungs, "Your Majesty! Lord Kosen is in danger! Please send aid!"
The moment his last word landed, he had already arrived before Yang Kai.
Yang Kai looked at him and his eyes narrowed. The mid-grade Demon King was covered in blood, with multiple wounds so deep they reached the bone—he had clearly been through a fierce battle. This demon was one of Kosen's subordinates, previously taken to the Lanyuan Continent side.
The disturbance at the realm gate just now must have been caused by this demon crossing over.
Lao Ke, Yin, and the others all turned to look. Lao Ke asked urgently, "What happened?"
The mid-grade Demon King gasped for breath and replied hastily, "We followed your orders to seal the realm gate on the Lanyuan Continent side. For the past few days, everything was peaceful—until today, when six high-grade Demon Kings suddenly mobilized from the Lanyuan side with over a thousand subordinates and surrounded us. I was able to slip through the realm gate to bring back word thanks to Lord Kosen's protection. I beg Your Majesty and the lords to send aid and save Lord Kosen! Before I left, he was already gravely wounded—I fear he won't hold out much longer!"
"How audacious!" Lao Ke roared in fury, looking up at Yang Kai with righteous indignation on his face.
Though he was old and had long lost the fighting spirit of his youth, that did not mean he would simply take abuse lying down. Kosen was a Demon King of Cloud Shadow, a colleague of sorts. After so many years working together, they had developed a certain bond. Now that Kosen had been beaten so badly, Lao Ke naturally felt the anxiety of shared fate. On top of that, for years the Lanyuan Continent had interfered with Cloud Shadow's Myriad Demon Den, cutting off their supply of Myriad Demon Pills, which had long been a source of resentment.
Now that Yue Sang had been banished to the Two-World Battlefield and Cloud Shadow had Yang Kai as its Prince to take charge, if they still allowed themselves to be bullied, they would no longer be fit to call themselves demons. Lao Ke immediately cupped his fists and said, "Your Majesty, Kosen cannot be lost. Cloud Shadow no longer has many high-grade Demon Kings to spare."
Originally there had only been four high-grade Demon Kings remaining here. With Lie Kuang killed a few days ago, only three remained. If something happened to Kosen as well, who in Cloud Shadow would be capable of handling major responsibilities?
Before his words had even faded, Yang Kai gave a cold laugh. "Rally your forces and follow behind. This King and Boya will go ahead first."
Passing through the realm gate had one troublesome aspect—after crossing, one was transported to a random location. Unless one used special means to wrap everyone together, in which case they would all arrive in the same place after crossing, but still couldn't pinpoint an exact destination. So Yang Kai didn't wait for Lao Ke and the others. Gathering the scattered forces here would take time, and with Kosen's situation uncertain, he needed to go ahead and see for himself.
