"Who the hell I like is none of your damn business!" Boya cursed, not showing the slightest embarrassment at having such a personal matter exposed by Yang Kai to his face.
This demoness was raised on crap, wasn't she? Yang Kai grumbled inwardly but couldn't be bothered to argue with her awful attitude. He turned his head and glanced once more in the direction the Blood Demon had fled, then spoke: "Since you've already seen through those people's schemes and arrangements, I imagine you also have a way to deal with them? Let's hear it — how exactly are we supposed to join forces?"
Boya's lips curled into a smirk as she gazed at Yang Kai with amusement. "Simple — you charge in front and draw their fire, while I lie in ambush behind and pick them off one by one!"
It was the simplest and most straightforward plan possible, and it offered Yang Kai absolutely no guarantee of safety. After all, there was no way to confirm whether Boya was in cahoots with those people, much less whether she might take advantage of his distraction and put an arrow in his back. After laying out this scheme, she had expected Yang Kai to refuse and then discuss a more refined approach with her. To her surprise, Yang Kai merely paused for a moment in thought before nodding: "Good idea. Let's do it."
A flicker of astonishment passed through Boya's eyes… This fellow's reaction wasn't quite what she had imagined. Did he really have that much confidence in himself?
The next instant, Boya felt a hand clap down on her shoulder. She jolted in alarm, only to see Yang Kai staring at her with a solemn expression: "Then let's join forces and raise some hell!"
A cold sweat broke out across Boya's back. She hadn't even had time to react before the hand landed on her. In other words, if the man standing across from her had wanted to kill her just now, she might already be dead…
Was this a warning? Boya furrowed her delicate brows, then suddenly broke into a smile. The stronger Yang Kai proved himself to be, the higher their chances of success when working together. She was actually more worried about him not being strong enough.
……
On the mountaintop, a streak of blood-light came soaring back, revealing the Blood Demon who had departed earlier. His face was full of frustration.
The Demon Lords hidden in the surroundings appeared one after another, gathering together and whispering among themselves. Several of them immediately wore expressions of indignation.
No one knew what they were discussing, but the spectators among the demon race could practically guess the content — nothing more than the failure of their ambush and the need to devise a new strategy…
Just then, a sudden uproar erupted from the spectator stands. Everyone turned to stare blankly at Yang Kai and Boya.
The man and woman appeared to have reached an agreement, apparently intending to join forces. They were already following the direction the Blood Demon had retreated in, and it wouldn't be long before they reached the previous encirclement.
Xiao Wu raised her hand to cover her red lips, her expression one of utter disbelief.
The Demon Commander behind her grabbed a fistful of his own hair and wailed through gritted teeth: "What is he doing?! Isn't this walking straight into a trap? He's gone mad, completely gone mad — my Demon Crystals!"
When that Winged Demon had suddenly appeared at the critical moment and blocked Yang Kai, he had naively believed that Yang Kai's luck was extraordinary, able to evade even this kind of trap. Who could have guessed that the Winged Demon was equally foolish, actually marching alongside Yang Kai straight into the trap of her own volition?
Were both of these people tired of living? The Demon Commander couldn't bear to watch anymore — any more of this and his nerves would give out entirely.
Inside the Blood Arena, Yang Kai advanced without any obstruction. Boya's silhouette was nowhere to be seen beside him — the woman had concealed her aura entirely and was trailing behind him at a distance of ten li, moving at an unhurried pace.
She would not expose herself easily. Not unless the moment had come for her to strike.
A distance of several dozen li was covered in mere moments.
At the foot of the mountain, Yang Kai ambled forward and tilted his head up to survey the scene. The forested slopes above were lush and green, with wind swaying the trees — an eerie sense that every blade of grass and every tree might conceal a hidden enemy. His spiritual sense probed inward and confirmed that over a dozen auras of the Demon Lord level were indeed concealed within, three of which were exceptionally powerful, reaching the High-Grade Demon Lord standard. Everything matched the intelligence Boya had provided earlier.
He stood at the base of the mountain, perfectly composed, and looked around for a moment with leisurely calm. Up in the spectator stands, Xiao Wu was so stifled with anxiety she could barely breathe, silently screaming in her mind: Don't go in, don't go in — it's a trap!
The Demon Commander behind her was holding his breath as well, his eyes fixed unblinkingly on Yang Kai's figure, praying that he would sense something amiss and stay far away from this place.
The next instant, before the eyes of the crowd, Yang Kai cupped his hands around his mouth to form a makeshift megaphone, drew a deep breath, and bellowed at the top of his lungs: "Anybody hooooome…"
The sound waves coalesced into a tangible force, rolling forward like a peal of thunder. The row of trees directly ahead swayed violently from side to side, leaves clattering in a wild flurry.
The Demon Commander simply collapsed into his seat, looking completely drained, as though he were on his verge of death.
Ten li away, Boya — who had been silently inching closer while keeping her presence hidden — turned dark in the face and couldn't help but slap her own forehead. This fellow… What in the world was he doing? With him shouting like that, wouldn't every enemy lying in ambush ahead know he was coming? So much for any element of surprise!
