Biluo had once set her sights on the Phoenix Return Pavilion too, but after months of pestering and cajoling before Shan Qingluo, the woman had never agreed.

And now, some no-name man was actually going to move in? Biluo's heart was instantly flooded with shock.

Who the heck was this guy? What kind of background did he have to earn such regard from Her Ladyship?

In her astonishment, her beautiful eyes kept sizing up Yang Kai, her expression brimming with jealousy and defiance.

"You've been traveling for a long time — you must be tired. Rest early today. Once I'm done with my business, I'll come find you," Shan Qingluo said with a radiant smile.

Yang Kai kept a cold face, shot her a glare, and said nothing.

When you live under someone else's roof, you have no choice but to bow your head.

Biluo was just about to clap and summon a few more maids when Shan Qingluo spoke up: "You take him to the Phoenix Return Pavilion yourself."

Biluo froze, her expression growing even more surprised, before she nodded: "Yes!"

Shan Qingluo then leaned in and softly warned Yang Kai: "Don't you bully her, you little rascal. I watched Biluo grow up since she was a child — she's like a sister to me."

"Got it," Yang Kai replied, somewhat exasperated.

"Off you go!"

Biluo then led Yang Kai through the residence.

Trailing behind this bewitchingly beautiful girl, Yang Kai looked around as they walked. He found that Shan Qingluo's residence was indeed very tranquil. Though it sat within a bustling city, not a single trace of noise penetrated these walls. A delicate fragrance permeated everywhere, and every path was swept spotless.

Occasionally they passed a few pretty-faced maids, all of whom greeted Biluo respectfully while casting curious glances at Yang Kai.

The entire way, they didn't encounter a single man.

Before long, they arrived at the Phoenix Return Pavilion.

It was an elegant three-story tower, neither too large nor too small, with a unique charm of its own. In front of the pavilion, all manner of flowers and herbs had been planted — it was the season when a hundred blooms competed for beauty, and their fragrance assaulted the nose.

"Hey—" Biluo called out as she led the way. "Watch your step. Don't step on the flowers. Her Ladyship planted every single one of these herself. If you damage even one, I'll make you pay!"

"Oh." Yang Kai responded with an indifferent look, knowing this little girl had a grudge against him. He didn't bother arguing with her angry tone.

What kind of person was this?! Biluo seethed inwardly. The guy didn't look like anything special. His clothes and bearing certainly didn't suggest any high-born upbringing. So why was Her Ladyship so invested in him?

And Her Ladyship had even warned him not to bully her!

Could he even beat her in a fight? Biluo was filled with indignation.

If it weren't for the fact that Shan Qingluo was treating Yang Kai with such high regard, Biluo might have lost her temper and challenged him to a spar right then and there, to teach him a proper lesson.

They climbed the pavilion to the second floor. Biluo opened the door, slipped inside first, and a look of pure delight bloomed across her pretty face. She completely ignored Yang Kai. Instead, she darted straight to the large, fragrant bed in the room, threw herself across it spread-eagle, hugged a pillow to her chest, and flared her small nostrils, sniffing deeply.

As she inhaled, an expression of absolute bliss washed over her features.

This was the bed Her Ladyship had slept in. This was the pillow Her Ladyship had rested her head on. It still carried Her Ladyship's scent…

Biluo felt her soul floating, her cheeks flushing crimson.

Yang Kai watched her with furrowed brows, secretly amused. He figured this little girl must regard Shan Qingluo as the person she idolized most — which would explain this completely irrational behavior.

Still, the way she was sprawled out like that only accentuated the pert curve of her hips.

He took a careful look around the boudoir and nodded: "Not bad."

Biluo snapped back to reality, scrambling upright from the bed in an instant. Her almond eyes went wide as she gritted her teeth: "Not bad?"

Yang Kai nodded matter-of-factly. This was a woman's bedroom, and he'd be staying here — the whole arrangement was rather awkward. Giving it a "not bad" rating was already generous.

"Heh… Indeed, not bad!" Biluo ground her teeth, huffing in irritation. "This was Her Ladyship's own room back when she was still a young lady. I begged and pleaded for ages, and she never let me stay here. And you — some stinking kid with no background — get to move in, and instead of being grateful, you think it's merely 'not bad'?"

"Oh…" Yang Kai stared at her blankly, finally understanding why she had such hostility toward him.

He rubbed his nose and said somewhat awkwardly: "Miss Biluo, might there be some kind of misunderstanding between us?"

"Who do you think you are?!" Biluo shot to her feet in a huff, clutching the fragrant pillow to her chest and stomping toward the door.

"Why are you taking the pillow?" Yang Kai was speechless.

"Because Her Ladyship used it," Biluo spun around and snapped. Then she marched back in a fury, scooped up the bed linens, and bundled them in her arms too. "And Her Ladyship used these as well."

She shot Yang Kai a glare as vicious as a little shopkeeper's, then swept out with her nose held high.

Yang Kai was taken aback. He realized the depth of this woman's adoration for Shan Qingluo went far beyond ordinary — it had clearly crossed into obsession.

He let it go and simply hopped onto the bed, sitting cross-legged.
