This was an absolute humiliation! Not only was it an insult to him personally, but to the entire Dragon Clan! His eyes were frigid as he glared at Yang Kai, looking at him as though he were already a dead man.
"Where did this blind fool come from, daring to be so brazen!" He roared with fury, his hair bristling with rage.
His wedding had been ruined by an outsider, and the dragoness who rightfully belonged to him was now nestled in another man's arms. Fu Chi's composure, no matter how refined, could not withstand this.
Zhu Qing stared at him coldly and said in an icy tone: "Fu Chi, watch your mouth. This is my man."
"Your… man…" Fu Chi's eyes bulged, and his body lurched as if he'd taken a blow. He caught himself and fixed a venomous gaze on Yang Kai: "It's you!"
He knew that Zhu Qing had gone out and consorted with a human — if not for that, he wouldn't have received the Elders' marriage decree. He had originally planned to subdue Zhu Qing after the wedding and then leave Dragon Island to deal with that human. But who could have imagined that this fellow would come to Dragon Island of his own accord, and on his wedding day no less, with such brazen arrogance?
Fu Chi's face turned an iron-gray, his eyes brimming with hatred and fury. He had long since placed Yang Kai on his kill list, and now that the enemy stood before him, his eyes naturally burned red with loathsome rage.
"That's right, I'm her man." Yang Kai smiled faintly, pulled Zhu Qing close, and planted a kiss on her forehead, his manner utterly nonchalant, as if no one else existed.
Fu Chi's expression grew even uglier. His own bride had been kissed — kissed by another man in front of everyone! And judging by her reaction, she didn't resist in the slightest; instead, a hint of bashful bliss flickered across her face. The fury in his chest surged like a volcano on the verge of eruption, and even his breathing had turned scalding and ragged.
Among the three Elders, Zhu Yan was clicking his tongue in wonder as he looked at Yang Kai. He had only just figured out Yang Kai's identity, and rather than anger, he felt a measure of astonishment.
He hadn't been entirely in favor of the marriage between Zhu Qing and Fu Chi, but Zhu Qing had indeed committed a transgression, and the Dragon Clan truly did need to continue the bloodline. With the Second Elder set on her course, he hadn't been in a position to object too strongly, and could only let events unfold as they would.
In his thinking, after Zhu Qing married Fu Chi, another few decades or a century might pass before she forgot that human entirely — and then there would be time enough to reassess. Who could have predicted that this scene would erupt today?
Fu Zhun cast a cold glance at Zhu Yan and said with a light snort: "Do you know something?"
How could Dragon Island be entered and exited freely? Over a decade ago, Dragon Island had strengthened its defenses. Even if a Great Emperor came in person, the Dragon Clan would sense it, and the entire clan would mobilize — not even a Great Emperor could force their way in. She strongly suspected that Yang Kai's ability to reach Dragon Island was the doing of the Grand Elder.
Zhu Yan shook his head. "What would I know?"
Fu Zhun let out a cold snort, suspicion churning in her mind. If this matter had nothing to do with the Grand Elder, then how had this man appeared on Dragon Island without anyone noticing? Had the defenses laid down over a decade ago truly been ineffective?
A trace of unease suddenly welled up within her, and her brows furrowed.
"This fellow's nerve is something, I'll give him that," said the Fourth Elder, Zhu Kong, watching Yang Kai with keen interest. He smiled and continued: "No wonder he managed to make Qing'er so devoted to him. I only wonder about his luck."
If today's affair was not handled properly, both he and Zhu Qing would face dire consequences. The iron-faced Second Elder was not known for her mercy.
Upon hearing this, even the Grand Elder's expression turned grave.
"Might I ask — which one is the Second Elder?" Yang Kai turned his head toward the three Elders.
Though he framed it as a question, his gaze had been locked on Fu Zhun's face the entire time. Among the three Elders, the Grand Elder and the Second Elder were both tenth-rank dragon veins, making them easy to distinguish. The elder among them, a half-aged man, was older than the cold-faced woman — and since the eldest naturally took precedence, he was the Grand Elder. So even though this was Yang Kai's first time laying eyes on the Second Elder, he had identified her at a single glance.
He couldn't help but grumble inwardly — the woman wore a face as cold and unyielding as primordial ice that had never thawed, and he couldn't fathom who she was putting on that expression for. He held not a shred of fondness for this Second Elder; if anything, there was a measure of resentment simmering inside him. This woman had absolutely nothing better to do with her time — what wire in her brain had short-circuited to make her champion the marriage decree between Zhu Qing and Fu Chi?
Displeasure aside, Yang Kai had no intention of immediately tearing the mask off his face with Dragon Island. If today's matter could be resolved peacefully, that would be ideal. If not, then they would simply have to settle it with fists. He had already steeled himself with the resolve that he would rather break than bend — today, no matter what, he would take Zhu Qing away, even if he had to turn this place upside down.
"Release her!" The Second Elder spoke a single phrase in a frigid tone, her voice laden with an authority that suffered no defiance. She did not answer Yang Kai's question.
Yang Kai regarded her calmly and said: "This junior Yang Kai greets the Second Elder. My unannounced visit today was born of necessity, and I humbly ask the Second Elder's indulgence."
"I know who you are." Fu Zhun gazed at him with an indifferent expression and said flatly: "If you want to live, release Zhu Qing."
Yang Kai shook his head. "Qing'er and I are in love, our hearts are aligned. The Second Elder should be well aware of this. Today I came to rescue her from suffering, not to abduct her — so what is there to 'release'? Has the Second Elder perhaps misunderstood something?"
