Zhu Lie snorted, "Waves crashing against a boulder will only shatter themselves. It accomplishes nothing else."
Yang Kai raised his head and said, "Then let's see whether Dragon Island is hard enough as a boulder to grind me to dust."
Zhu Lie stared at him in shock, trying to read some trace of jest on his face. What disappointed him was that Yang Kai's expression, while not exactly grave, was absolutely not joking either.
Shaking his head slowly, Zhu Lie said with a complicated look, "You really are a lunatic."
Yang Kai threw his head back and laughed heartily. "I'll take that as a compliment."
Zhu Lie didn't want to continue down this path, because Yang Kai's attitude had already said everything — he would never give up on Zhu Qing, nor would he bow to Dragon Island's rules.
Since that was the case, there was no point wasting any more breath. He suddenly turned his head and asked, "What are you doing here?"
The two had been talking and hadn't even noticed they'd arrived at Demon Wrath City. At this point, it had been only about half a day since they'd last passed through here, and the aftershocks hadn't yet subsided. Several Demon Kings' corpses were still lying where they'd fallen, uncollected, the stench of blood saturating the void.
When these two terrifying figures appeared to have come charging back, and this time shoulder to shoulder at that, both brimming with killing intent as though ready to tear the place apart, the demons of Demon Wrath City all turned pale, their hearts sinking to the pit of their stomachs. They felt certain that this time, there was no escaping their doom no matter what.
Yet even so, not a single demon abandoned the city to flee. The demons had operated this place for over a hundred thousand years, facing off against the Human Emperor City from afar. The conflict between the two races had never ceased. If they were cowardly enough to run, they wouldn't deserve to call themselves demons.
One by one, the demons emerged from every corner of the city, gradually converging toward the spot where Yang Kai and Zhu Lie stood. Their cultivation levels were uneven, but their numbers were enormous.
The Demon Kings had also gathered in one place, their expressions grim as they watched the two humans flying through the air from the direction of Phantom Wind Mountain. The battle intent within their bodies rose steadily.
Yang Kai and Zhu Lie stopped a hundred zhang away from the cluster of Demon Kings. Though only two, they felt like an army of thousands bearing down, and in terms of sheer pressure, they had the demons completely outmatched.
"What are you doing here?" Zhu Lie furrowed his brow. "Don't tell me you've come to massacre the city."
Humans and demons were irreconcilable enemies. Even in a small world like the Wheel World, the enmity between the two races had stretched on for over a hundred thousand years. It wouldn't be strange if Yang Kai really had come to wipe the city out.
"Massacre the city? Fighting and killing is the most boring thing there is." Yang Kai curled his lip, sweeping his gaze across the Demon Kings opposite him. He put on an innocent, harmless smile and called out to a figure lurking behind the crowd: "That beautiful lady over there — would you care to come out and have a chat?"
The Demon Kings all turned their heads, looking toward where his gaze had fallen.
Behind the crowd, a graceful figure was cowering and hiding, as though afraid to show her true face, constantly sheltering in the shadows of others.
She had been hiding quite carefully, yet Yang Kai had plucked her straight out of the crowd with a single glance. She was immediately wracked with dread, silently cursing Yang Kai's sharp eyes while also hating herself for having provoked him unprompted before. Now she was stuck with this god of slaughter and couldn't shake him off. She had no idea what fate awaited her.
Under the scrutiny of every gaze, the Succubus Demon had nowhere to hide and could only shuffle out awkwardly, forcing a strained smile onto her face. She asked what she already knew the answer to: "This lord… were you speaking to me? Surely you weren't speaking to me? Heh heh heh…"
No one backed her up, and her own laugh was awkward enough that she quickly fell silent, lowering her eyes submissively, looking pitiful enough to stir anyone's sympathy.
"That's right, it's you." Yang Kai nodded at her with a warm smile.
She had known this was coming, but when Yang Kai confirmed it, she still couldn't stop her face from going pale. Her voice trembled as she said, "I wonder what words this lord… wishes to say to me?"
Yang Kai let out a derisive laugh. "A moment ago you were calling me 'little brother,' and now you're calling me 'my lord.' How strange, sister."
The Succubus Demon's face grew even paler. Tears welled up in her eyes, making those almond-shaped eyes of hers all the more alluring. She bit her thin lip and said softly, "Earlier, this humble one was blind and offended this lord. Fortunately, this lord is magnanimous and did not hold it against me. This humble one won't dare do so again. Please, this lord, spare my life."
She was groveling, but the Demon Kings standing nearby wore ugly expressions. Every one of them felt this shameless woman was disgracing the demons, making them look weak in the eyes of the detestable humans. They wanted nothing more than to rush up and tear her mouth apart.
But that was something they could only imagine. Though the Demon Kings despised the Succubus Demon's attitude, they knew this was not the time to start any conflict. If a fight truly broke out, these two young men were more than capable of bathing the entirety of Demon Wrath City in blood.
"Don't be so nervous — as if we eat people." Yang Kai let out a light chuckle toward the Succubus Demon. "I've only come to ask a few questions. Hmm, is there somewhere nearby that's convenient for talking?"
Hearing this, the Succubus Demon wasn't sure whether to believe him, but on second thought, what good would it do even if she didn't? His arms were thicker than her thighs.
"There is, there is! What does this lord think of that place over there?" The Succubus Demon pointed in a direction not far away as she spoke.
Yang Kai turned his head to look. Over there was an open plaza, with stone tables and stone chairs along its edges. The plaza was also dotted with many statues, each one towering and burly, their faces fierce. These statues had clearly been crafted by powerful hands — every one was vividly lifelike, appearing almost as though they were real people.
The statues depicted both men and women of various races. Even though Yang Kai was quite knowledgeable about the demon race, he couldn't identify all the races represented in these statues.
