Chapter 2645: Big Bird, Big Bird

January 17, 2020 · 6 min read · 1,156 words

The Demon Commander suddenly looked as though he had encountered a venomous snake or scorpion, trembling with terror. This left all the surrounding Demon soldiers and officers in complete bewilderment, utterly at a loss.

"I didn't know the honored one had arrived. This lowly demon was blind and foolish and offended the honored one — please forgive my transgressions!" the Demon Commander stammered, beads of sweat as large as soybeans rolling down his forehead, his mind reeling.

"You're not completely stupid!" Yang Kai gave a light snort and, leading Ban Lao while carrying little Ling'er on his shoulder, flew straight past the group of demons without a second glance.

Seeing that Yang Kai had no intention of making things difficult for him, the Demon Commander finally let out a heavy sigh of relief.

After Yang Kai's figure vanished from sight, one of the Demon officers curiously asked, "Commander, who was that man? Why were you so respectful toward him?"

None of the demons could make sense of it. The Primal Wastes were a paradise for the ancient bloodlines, and here, the demon race held the greatest power — so why had the Demon Commander shown such extreme deference to that human?

The Demon Commander's expression shifted several times, but instead of answering, he said in a grave voice, "That man must not be provoked. All of you remember this — if you ever run into him again, get as far away as possible. Even the Demon King won't be able to protect you if you cross him."

"What..." The demons were stunned, their curiosity about Yang Kai's identity growing even stronger. What kind of ability did he possess that even the Demon King would be helpless against him?

"No, no — I need to report this to the Demon King right away." The Demon Commander muttered to himself for a moment, then his body shimmered and he transformed into a wisp of black smoke, hurtling off in a specific direction at tremendous speed.

Yang Kai's sudden appearance here was a major event for the entire Primal Wastes. Since he had encountered it, he was obligated to report. If the Demon King found out later and held him accountable, he wouldn't be able to bear the consequences.

Within the jungle, Yang Kai continued flying onward.

Little Ling'er was blissfully unaware, not understanding what the scene just moments ago had truly meant, but Ban Lao was absolutely astonished by Yang Kai. A powerful Demon Commander, leading so many Demon soldiers and officers — and all of them had been completely subservient to Yang Kai. What on earth was going on? Ban Lao wanted to ask in detail, but felt that his relationship with Yang Kai wasn't yet close enough for such probing questions. He could only swallow his doubts and keep them bottled up inside.

After flying a while longer, Yang Kai suddenly furrowed his brow and halted, turning to look behind them.

"What's wrong?" Ban Lao asked curiously.

"Someone powerful is heading this way. Not sure what they want." Yang Kai narrowed his eyes, gazing toward the rear, and said evenly.

"Someone powerful..." Ban Lao's heart lurched. Even the Demon Commander had retreated before Yang Kai — so if this "powerful person" was someone Yang Kai considered noteworthy, wouldn't that make them Demon King-level?

Ban Lao's head spun, and he nearly lost his footing.

In the span of just a couple of sentences, a streak of azure light shot toward them from behind and came to a stop not far away. The azure glow dissipated, revealing a lean, vigorous figure.

It was a middle-aged man dressed in fitted azure garments, sporting a hawkish nose. His eyes were sharp as blades, and an aura deep as an abyss made it difficult to breathe.

A Demon King, sure enough.

Ban Lao's face went white. Though he had never seen a Demon King before, he could recognize one — the man before him was undoubtedly a Demon King of the Primal Wastes. It was said that only those comparable to the third level of the Emperor Realm could become a Demon King of the Wastes. In other words, this middle-aged man was a third-level Emperor Realm powerhouse!

A being like this could probably wipe him and little Ling'er out a thousand times over with a mere puff of breath.

"It truly is Young Master Yang!"

When the middle-aged man across from them spotted Yang Kai, he showed not a trace of hostility. Instead, he was visibly delighted, as though reuniting with an old friend. He cupped his fists and said, "Ying Fei, Demon King under Lord Cang Gou, pays his respects to Young Master Yang!"

"So it's Demon King Ying Fei." Yang Kai nodded slightly, his expression indifferent. This Demon King looked somewhat familiar — he must have crossed paths with him near the Blood Gate last time. Now that the man had introduced himself, Yang Kai learned his name was Ying Fei.

"Cang Gou..." Ban Lao's pupils dilated to their widest, his face a mask of blank astonishment, his entire being nearly petrified.

Though the average person wouldn't understand the division of power within the Primal Wastes — and Ban Lao himself was no exception — he had certainly heard of Cang Gou's great name.

That was an ancient Holy Spirit!

So the Primal Wastes really did contain a Holy Spirit, and this Demon King before him was a subordinate of the Holy Spirit Cang Gou.

"I just heard that my underlings claimed to have spotted Young Master Yang. I thought they were seeing things — I never expected it truly was you, Young Master Yang." Ying Fei wore an expression of instant familiarity, grinning cheerfully.

Yang Kai asked, "I wonder why Demon King Ying Fei chased after us. Is there something you wish to discuss?"

Ying Fei hurriedly replied, "Discuss? I wouldn't dare presume such a thing. I merely wished to ask — where is Young Master Yang headed? Would you like any assistance?"

Yang Kai shook his head. "There's no need. I'm simply going to find Madam Feng to discuss a matter with her."

"Madam Luan Feng!" Ying Fei said with a smile. "The distance from here to Madam Luan Feng's Fengluo Palace is considerable. While most Demon Kings and Commanders within the Wastes know Young Master Yang's appearance and wouldn't dare offend you, there are still many demons who might be blind enough to cause trouble — and that would be unfortunate. How about this, if Young Master Yang doesn't mind, allow Ying Fei to escort you? I won't boast about anything else, but when it comes to speed, I'm second to none."

Ever since Yang Kai had caused an upheaval in the Primal Wastes the last time, the three remaining Holy Sovereigns had instructed their subordinate Demon Kings and Holy Envoys that if they ever encountered Yang Kai again, they must absolutely not be disrespectful.
