Yu Ying bit her red lip and said pitifully, "Why do you two seniors have to mock me the moment we meet? Has your junior sister offended you in some way? I have absolutely nothing going on with Senior Brother Feng here. Please don't ruin my reputation."
As she spoke, she shot a worried glance toward Yang Kai, as if afraid he might learn of her past.
"Pure and innocent?" Chang Xian's eyes bulged, and he froze on the spot. The other four members of the Fan Tian Holy Land all wore expressions of utter disbelief, as though they had seen a ghost.
A moment later, all five of them burst into uproarious laughter at the same time — loud, brazen, and dripping with mockery.
Then, just as suddenly, the laughter cut off. Chang Hao said with a cold face, "That's the funniest joke I've ever heard."
Chang Xian added, "A man who could be alone in a room with you, Yu Ying, and remain completely innocent — I doubt such a person has even been born yet."
Yu Ying's face shifted between green and red. Even someone of her... particular nature couldn't entirely keep her composure when told that to her face. She glanced at Yang Kai and protested, "Senior Brother Feng, don't listen to their nonsense. Your junior sister is not that kind of person."
Yang Kai nodded. "I know."
He was sneering inwardly. He had long since figured out what this woman was really like. For her to still put on this innocent act and try to explain things to him — he couldn't even fathom what she was thinking.
Seeing Yang Kai's lukewarm reaction, Yu Ying felt a flash of annoyance. She silently cursed the Fan Tian Holy Land bunch for being too meddlesome. But since she was outmatched in strength, she didn't dare fly into a rage. All she could do was look at them pitifully and say, "Did you seniors specifically come here just to humiliate your junior sister? If so, then congratulations — you've succeeded. Junior sister... will take her leave."
"Leaving? Did you ask me?" Chang Hao barked.
"What exactly do you seniors want?" Yu Ying's heart was pounding. Chang Hao and his group clearly didn't come with good intentions — they obviously weren't here for a friendly chat.
Chang Xian regarded Yu Ying with cold eyes and snorted. "Slut, let me ask you — where is my junior brother Deng Yong now?"
At those words, Yu Ying's expression flickered. But she quickly masked it, forcing a smile. "Senior Brother Chang Xian, that's a strange question. Wouldn't you know where Deng Yong is? Why are you asking me? I've never seen him."
"You dare lie!" Chang Hao's eyes turned cold as he roared, "Junior brother Deng Yong clearly died at your hands!"
Yu Ying cried out in alarm, "How could Senior Brother Chang Hao think such a thing? Deng Yong and I had no grudges, no enmies. Even if I had run into him, I wouldn't have killed him. Besides, Deng Yong was stronger than me — even if I wanted to, I couldn't have done it. Senior Brother Chang Hao, please don't slander me."
"Still quibbling!" Chang Hao ground his teeth, eyes blazing with fury as he glared at Deng Yong. He snorted coldly, "Since you insist on being obstinate, then I'll let you die knowing the truth! Deng Yong's Soul Dispersal Seal is clearly on your body. We tracked it all the way here — and now what do you have to say?"
Yu Ying's face went deathly pale in an instant.
Chang Xian said, "We were wondering who could have killed Deng Yong. Never thought it would be a slut like you. Deng Yong was stronger than you, so it's hardly surprising he ended up dead at your hands — after all, he was a slave to his lust!"
Chang Hao continued, "Granted, Deng Yong was bewitched and brought his death upon himself. But he was still a disciple of the Holy Land. Yu Ying — a life for a life. Take your own!"
The two of them went back and forth, pronouncing Yu Ying's death sentence without so much as pausing for breath. Yu Ying's lovely face had lost all color, and her slender body trembled uncontrollably.
At this point, Yang Kai had already detected an extremely well-hidden soul imprint somewhere on her — presumably the mark Deng Yong had left before death. How laughable that Yu Ying had never even noticed it, allowing the Fan Tian Holy Land people to catch her red-handed. Now there was no way she could argue her way out of this.
He had been wondering why these five from Fan Tian Holy Land had come straight for him and Yu Ying. Now it made sense — it was all thanks to that Soul Dispersal Seal.
He had no idea when exactly Yu Ying had killed Deng Yong, but it must have been sometime within the past year.
Yang Kai cursed silently. He had only been sticking with Yu Ying because he wanted her to lead him to Yin Lesheng. He never expected something like this to happen midway. The problem was, he couldn't just stand by and do nothing — if he did, Yu Ying was dead for sure, and all the time and effort he had spent enduring her would go to waste.
So whether he liked it or not, he had to save her.
"Still not taking action!" Chang Hao saw that Yu Ying was dragging her feet and couldn't help but roar, "Think carefully. If we have to do it ourselves, you won't even get the mercy of death!"
Yu Ying's face grew even paler. She gritted her teeth, took a step back, and called out, "This is Senior Brother Feng De of our Sect. If you have anything to say, say it to him!"
This woman — the moment she sensed things going badly, she shoved Yang Kai straight out as a shield, with absolutely no attempt to hide what she was doing.
"Feng De?" Chang Hao narrowed his eyes, giving Yang Kai a cursory glance. He said flatly, "Where did this piece of trash crawl out from? Never heard of him."
In the entire Huang Quan Sect, any Dao Source Realm cultivator capable of measuring up to their Holy Sons was someone with a well-known reputation. He had genuinely never heard of this Feng De. And if he hadn't heard of him, that meant he was just an ordinary disciple — and an ordinary disciple meant nothing in front of two Holy Sons.
"Kid, you want to stand up for that slut? You'd better think twice!" Chang Xian regarded Yang Kai with a cold sneer.
