Two streaks of light tore across the sky tens of thousands of kilometers away from Jade Feather Mountain, streaking down like thunder toward a secluded area below.
The light faded, revealing the figures of Yang Kai and Liu Xianyun.
"We actually made it out?" Liu Xianyun's lovely face was lit with a mixture of disbelief and elation, her bright eyes sparkling with excitement.
Throughout their escape, she had been surprised to find that they hadn't encountered the slightest obstruction. After all, she and Yang Kai were both officially Disciples of the Jade Feather Sect now, carrying identity tokens on them. Whenever they happened to run into anyone who questioned them, a simple show of their tokens let them pass without issue.
Once they had cleared Jade Feather Mountain, the two had been flying in this direction the entire time. Now, estimating that they had put enough distance between themselves and the sect, they finally landed.
Tens of thousands of kilometers—that was more than enough distance to be safe. What's more, the Jade Feather Sect was probably still in utter chaos right now, and no one would care about two Disciples fleeing.
This was all thanks to Bian Yuqing and Kou Wu being away from the sect.
"Brother Yang, we really did make it out!" Liu Xianyun was still lost in her excitement, a broad smile on her face.
"Xianyun, come here for a moment." Yang Kai, however, showed no sign of being particularly pleased. His expression was grave as he beckoned Liu Xianyun over, then produced several spatial rings from his own pocket and extended his divine sense to examine them.
These spatial rings had belonged to the enemies he had killed in the Bone Prison—four in total.
After a quick inspection, Yang Kai quickly determined what each ring contained. He kept one for himself and pressed the other three into Liu Xianyun's hands. "Take these."
"Brother Yang, what are you doing?" Liu Xianyun stared at him blankly, a dazed look on her face.
"Nothing. From this point on, we go our separate ways," Yang Kai replied with a solemn expression.
Hearing this, Liu Xianyun's delicate frame trembled. With some difficulty, she asked, "Brother Yang, do you think I'm holding you back?"
Yang Kai frowned, fell silent for a moment, then nodded. "Yes!"
Liu Xianyun looked at him intently, then suddenly clenched her teeth. "No! Brother Yang, tell me the truth—is there some danger closing in? Is it related to that Senior Wu?"
"Why are you asking so many questions?" Yang Kai wore an impatient expression. "Are all you women this naggy? I told you to take the things and go, so just go."
Liu Xianyun bit down on her silver teeth and glared at him angrily, her heaving chest rising and falling as she spoke in a low voice. "I've received a great deal of help from you during this time, Brother Yang. If you're in any danger now, Xianyun won't just stand by and watch."
"What danger could I possibly be in?" Yang Kai let out an exasperated laugh. "Either way, from now on we go our separate ways—you take your path, I'll take mine. Let's part here. Good luck!"
With that, Yang Kai channeled his power and shot off into the sky.
"You think you can just leave like that?" Liu Xianyun's slender brows shot upward. She let out a cold humph and immediately gave chase.
Though she didn't know why Yang Kai was doing this, based on her impression of him over these past days, Yang Kai was not the type of person to be so heartless. Liu Xianyun was certain that he had run into some serious trouble and didn't want to drag her down with him, which was why he was trying to separate from her.
But how could Liu Xianyun be so ungrateful as to let Yang Kai face danger alone?
Even if her strength was limited, two people together were still better than one facing everything alone.
Yet what truly shocked Liu Xianyun was that after chasing for only a short while, she realized she had lost track of Yang Kai entirely. His speed was simply inhuman—it was far beyond what a Void King Realm Third Stage cultivator should possess. Moreover, wherever Yang Kai had passed, he left behind faint ripples of spatial power.
That Yang Kai understood spatial power was something Liu Xianyun already knew—back in the Starlight Corridor, he had used it during his fierce battle with Yin Lesheng.
Chasing someone who was a master of spatial power and was determined to shake her off was simply too much to ask.
So after pursuing for a stretch, Liu Xianyun had no choice but to give up with a sigh. After landing back on the ground, she let out a soft, melancholy sigh and gazed in the direction Yang Kai had vanished, murmuring to herself, "Thank you for everything during this time. Please take care of yourself!"
She opened her palm, where the three spatial rings rested. Sweeping them with her divine sense, she quickly discovered that all three rings contained a considerable amount of Source Crystals and Artifacts. One ring in particular held the greatest wealth—it was unmistakably Zhou Yi's ring.
"That really does fit his character," Liu Xianyun said with a bitter laugh. Yang Kai had only taken a single ring belonging to a Void King Realm cultivator for himself, leaving the vast majority of the spoils to her. He was clearly worried that she wouldn't have enough cultivation resources for the time being.
…
High above, Yang Kai flew alone.
The reason he had chosen to part ways with Liu Xianyun was that a deep unease had taken root in his heart—and the source of that unease was Wu Mengchuan.
Although Yang Kai didn't know exactly what that old man was scheming, he certainly didn't believe Wu Mengchuan would let him go out of the goodness of his heart—especially with the Devouring Heaven Art in his possession.
The old man definitely had some treacherous scheme up his sleeve!
Wu Mengchuan was a Dao Source Realm Third Stage powerhouse, possibly with half a foot already stepping into the Emperor Realm. Yang Kai had absolutely no confidence in facing him. To avoid dragging Liu Xianyun into the mess, he could only separate from her.
Liu Xianyun was at the very least a Void King Realm Third Stage cultivator—a figure of dominance even in her own Star Domain. He believed that even within the Star Boundary, she would be able to look after herself well.
