Chapter 1777: Does Your Sect Recruit People?

"My Senior Sister really is a Void King level Alchemist." nodded in confirmation.

"Yang Kai!" Ghost Ancestor suddenly drew a deep breath and asked in a low voice, "Which Cultivation Star is your Sect on? Is your Sect still recruiting? Do you need any Elders with high cultivation? Hmm, a Guest Elder would work too — or failing that, even just a nominal title would be fine."

Ghost Ancestor had completely lost his composure.

Though he had always wandered alone and enjoyed his freedom, the bitterness of it was something only he truly understood. For instance, whenever he wanted to refine a Spirit Pill, there was no one he could ask for help. When he needed to enter seclusion to cultivate some secret technique, no one stood guard for him. Even the materials required for his Cultivation had to be found by venturing out personally.

All these trivial matters consumed vast amounts of his time.

But the Void King realm experts in those great factions lived differently. Their status and standing were exalted — whenever they needed something, a single command was enough, and countless Disciples would scramble to carry it out for them. All the Void King realm experts had to do was focus on Cultivation in peace.

So sometimes, Ghost Ancestor genuinely envied those Void King realm experts of the great factions.

That said, if it actually came to joining one, he certainly wouldn't be willing. He had no desire to be constrained by others, nor did he want to bind himself to any faction.

But if it was the Sect where Yang Kai resided, that was an entirely different matter!

This Sect had three Void King level Pill Grandmasters! That alone was a fatal temptation for Ghost Ancestor.

Moreover, he got along well with Yang Kai and their relationship was fairly cordial, so he felt absolutely no resistance toward the Sect Yang Kai belonged to.

Seeing Ghost Ancestor looking so eager — practically ready to volunteer himself on the spot — Yang Kai found it rather amusing.

He hadn't expected Ghost Ancestor to suddenly develop the notion of joining Lingxiao Sect, but on second thought, it made perfect sense. With his and 's status as Void King level Pill Grandmasters, recruiting a Void King realm expert to join Lingxiao Sect wouldn't be too difficult. That said, Yang Kai wasn't particularly enthusiastic about such matters. Void King realm experts — Lingxiao Sect might not have any right now, but that didn't mean it wouldn't in the future.

Ye Xiyun was already considered a quasi-Void King realm expert. She would inevitably advance to the Void King realm eventually; all that was missing was the right opportunity.

However, if Ghost Ancestor wanted to join, there was no reason to refuse. After spending this time together, Yang Kai had come to see that Ghost Ancestor wasn't as sinister or malicious as he appeared on the surface.

His eerie aura was merely the result of the Cultivation technique he practiced.

His thoughts drifting, Yang Kai grinned. "This Junior's Sect is called Lingxiao Sect, located on the Dark Star. This Junior serves as — perhaps humbly — the Sect Master of Lingxiao Sect…"

He gave Ghost Ancestor a brief overview of the Sect's situation.

When Ghost Ancestor heard that Lingxiao Sect had actually been founded by Yang Kai himself, he couldn't help but feel a wave of admiration. And upon learning that the Sect didn't have a single Void King realm expert — that in fact the entire Dark Star had only one recently advanced first-level Void King — Ghost Ancestor was overjoyed.

He had assumed that any faction with several Void King level Pill Grandmasters in its ranks couldn't possibly be weak, and likely harbored a fair number of Void King realm experts. If that were the case, his joining would merely be adding a flower to a brocade — pleasant but unnecessary. But now it seemed that if he truly joined, he would instantly become the strongest individual in all of Lingxiao Sect, or even the entire Dark Star!

His status and standing would be nothing like what he had imagined — it would be the very pinnacle!

So Ghost Ancestor became even more enthusiastic and asked impatiently, "Yang Kai, what do you think of this old man? I've been lonely and rootless my whole life. Ever since leaving the Floating Continent, I've had no place to settle down. I was thinking — how about I head to your Lingxiao Sect? I don't have any grand demands. Just give me the title of Guest Elder, let me enjoy the care of a Void King level Alchemist, and refine a few Spirit Pills for me now and then — that would be enough. Heh heh…"

He was direct and frank about it.

Yang Kai laughed heartily. "For someone of your caliber to wish to join Lingxiao Sect, how could this Junior possibly refuse?"

"Then it's settled?" Ghost Ancestor's eyes lit up. Though he had figured Yang Kai would likely agree, hearing the actual confirmation still filled him with delight. This meant he would be close enough to a Void King level Alchemist to benefit from their proximity. In the future, as long as he could find the right herbs, he would never need to worry about having no one to refine pills for him! Boosting his strength would be as simple as that!

Ghost Ancestor could already envision the scene — he would surely reach the peak of the third-level Void King realm before his life's end, standing at the very summit of the entire Star Domain.

"Settled!" Yang Kai nodded without hesitation. "Though the title of Guest Elder hardly seems fitting for someone of your stature. Let's call you… Supreme Elder instead."

Ghost Ancestor's body shook as though struck by lightning. He stared deeply at Yang Kai, his heart unable to calm for a long while.

Though he had never joined any faction before, he understood the difference between a Guest Elder and a Supreme Elder. A Guest Elder, while supported by the Sect, was merely a figurehead — holding a nominal title with no real authority whatsoever.

A Supreme Elder was something else entirely. A Supreme Elder wielded actual power — in fact, considerable power, second only to the Sect Master. In some factions, the Supreme Elder stood as the most supreme existence of all, capable of freely mobilizing the Sect's resources and Disciples. A Supreme Elder's word was an absolute command, and Disciples would have to complete their tasks even if it meant walking through fire or treading through boiling water.
