Chapter 1648: Heretical

January 17, 2020 · 5 min read · 1,022 words

Ran Yunting's expression didn't change. She simply stared at Yang Kai coldly and said in a frigid tone, "This ends here!"

The arrival of reinforcements from the numerous Elders had given her renewed hope of killing Yang Kai.

"Die!" Yang Kai suddenly barked.

The four additional streams of colored light circulating around his body peeled away and poured entirely into the Gold Sword, merging with it.

The five-colored light sword took shape instantly!

The light sword contained the power of the Five Elements, each reinforcing and restraining the others in an endless cycle. The aura of the Five Elements surged ceaselessly, and the sword's might skyrocketed.

Crack, crack, crack…

The ice wall blocking Ran Yunting's path groaned with the sound of fracturing, clear fissures spreading across its surface.

Ran Yunting's face turned pale with shock. Bing Long and the numerous Elders stood frozen in place.

With a tremendous crash, the ice wall shattered completely. The five-colored light sword pierced toward the space between Ran Yunting's brows with a vicious, unstoppable force!

Just as the Ice Heart Valley's Grand Elder was about to meet her end, a pale, luminous jade-like hand suddenly materialized out of thin air.

The hand appeared flawless and white, with five slender fingers like fresh spring onions pulled from water. The jade palm closed gently, as though it were merely grasping something trivial.

An indescribably profound and mysterious power emanated from that jade hand.

The five-colored light sword, which had just demolished the ice wall, was caught in the palm's grasp. The sword trembled violently but could not advance even a fraction of an inch further.

"Young man, show mercy where you can. Why must you drive someone to absolute ruin?" A cool, clear female voice echoed through the void.

Yang Kai's brow furrowed, and his eyes narrowed.

Ran Yunting had just walked through the gates of death. Her entire body was drenched in cold sweat, but upon seeing that jade hand and hearing that cool female voice, she was overcome with elation. She cried out, "This disciple thanks the Supreme Elder for saving my life! I beg the Supreme Elder to strike again and slay this wretch who insults Ice Heart Valley!"

Supreme Elder?

Yang Kai's expression turned grave. He lifted his head and gazed in a certain direction, but could see no figure.

He knew Ice Heart Valley had a Supreme Elder in residence. She was a Void King Realm powerhouse, though only at the first stage.

Even someone like Luo Hai, Yang Kai had once crossed paths with, and had been chased across the entire star field by him. The Supreme Elder of Ice Heart Valley, powerful as she might be, was not enough to make Yang Kai tremble.

That was why he had dared to come here!

He quietly braced himself, his Saint Force restrained and ready to erupt at a moment's notice.

On the other side, Bing Long was horrified. She feared the Supreme Elder, in her anger, might actually kill Yang Kai. She hurriedly said, "Supreme Elder, please show restraint! There may be some misunderstanding here. Please leave this matter to Bing Long to handle!"

Yang Kai's existence was of paramount importance. Bing Long could not afford to let him die so casually.

The cool female voice sounded once more, but this time she said nothing—only let out a soft sigh. The jade hand gripping the five-colored light sword dissolved and vanished.

Yang Kai moved with his thoughts and recalled the five-colored light sword into his body. He stared coldly at Ran Yunting.

She stared back at him, teeth clenched, seething with frustration.

She seemed deeply resentful that the Supreme Elder hadn't simply killed Yang Kai. After all, what Yang Kai had just done was outrageous—before everyone's eyes, he had attempted to slay her, the Grand Elder.

Such provocation and humiliation was something Ran Yunting absolutely could not tolerate.

But she dared not object to the Supreme Elder's decision and could only stew in silent fury.

A graceful figure suddenly came hurtling toward them from the distance. As if guided by some sixth sense, Yang Kai turned to look. In the next instant, the heaven-shaking killing intent that enveloped him dissipated entirely, as though it had never existed, replaced by a gentle smile.

He gazed in that direction, his eyes tender as water.

Bing Long and the others seemed unable to adjust to such a drastic shift in his demeanor. They furrowed their brows, uncertain what could possibly account for it.

Following his gaze and seeing who was approaching, Bing Long's expression turned thoughtful.

Ran Yunting saw the newcomer's face as well, and her expression turned vicious. Just as she opened her mouth to hurl some sharp remark, she suddenly felt a piercing gaze lock onto her.

She turned her head and saw Yang Kai staring intently at her, his expression clearly conveying the message: "Say one word and I'll kill you right now."

The words Ran Yunting had ready on her tongue were swallowed back down. She quietly gulped.

Perhaps she was overthinking it, but in that brief instant, she felt as though she were being watched by some ancient, savage beast. If she provoked Yang Kai again, she had the chilling sense that even the Supreme Elder might not be able to save her life.

That thought made her blood run cold…

The graceful figure racing toward them covered the distance in just a few leaps, arriving within ten feet of Yang Kai. She hovered in the air, her beautiful eyes trembling faintly as she bit her lower lip.

Their eyes met. The face that was always cold as ice and jade broke into a rare, breathtaking smile.

The stunning scenery of Ice Extreme Island paled to nothing in that instant.

Countless outer island Disciples of Ice Extreme Island stood in a daze, their eyes glazed over.

"Good heavens, Su Yan is actually smiling? She's actually smiling? And at a man, no less!"

"I thought she'd never smile. Does she know this man?"

"What's their relationship? They look awfully close…"

"Su Yan has a man on the outside? That's truly unimaginable!"
