Chapter 1590: Blood Prison

January 17, 2020 · 5 min read · 973 words

A groggy sensation assailed him from all directions, as though space itself had shifted and collapsed.

These were the telltale signs of a spatial transmission!

For Yang Kai, short-range teleportation posed no burden whatsoever, but this kind of interstellar transmission—leaping from one Cultivation Star to another—still carried a noticeable strain.

Fortunately, he had a profound mastery of spatial power. With a brief circulation of his Saint Power, he dispelled all the adverse effects cleanly.

His vision blurred, and when it cleared, Yang Kai found himself standing on unfamiliar terrain.

Before he even had time to survey his surroundings, he detected a trace of life force not far away.

He turned his head sharply with guarded wariness and discovered that the figure was none other than Lie Feng from the Mad Lion Territory, standing roughly a hundred zhang from him.

The other man had departed before him, yet from his disheveled appearance, he still hadn't recovered from the transmission.

Lie Feng hadn't cultivated in spatial power the way Yang Kai had, so he naturally took longer to shake off the negative effects. Nevertheless, he was a rising star among the Monster Race, and his strength had already reached the third level of the Void Return Stage. After roughly three breaths, his eyes snapped open, brimming with keen light. Just like Yang Kai, he began a cautious sweep of the area while secretly circulating his Saint Power, ready to strike at any sign of danger.

The very next moment, he caught sight of Yang Kai a hundred zhang away.

"Huh?" Lie Feng's face lit up with surprise. He paused for a thought, then drifted across the distance and materialized in front of Yang Kai, a pleasant smile on his face. "I heard your name is Yang Kai?"

"Mm." Yang Kai gave a faint nod, his manner neither warm nor cold.

"I also heard you taught Xue Lian a lesson?" Lie Feng seemed genuinely interested in him.

Yang Kai said nothing.

Lie Feng shrugged. "Yu Xiong told me. I only wish I'd arrived at Scarlet Moon Territory sooner—I could have watched the show! Heh, I won't hide it, I don't much like Xue Lian either. But you actually managing to put him in his place was a real surprise. You humans really can't be underestimated, hmm. I think I'd like to extend an invitation."

"An invitation to what?" Yang Kai eyed him with suspicion.

The other man carried himself with the easy familiarity of an old friend, his attitude genuinely amiable, and Yang Kai found he couldn't muster any real ill will toward him.

"To team up, of course," Lie Feng said with a grin. "Brother Yang, you know as well as I do—this is Cuiwei Star. When Monster Race cultivators set foot here, they're not exactly welcomed with open arms. And looking around, it seems like you and I are the only ones nearby. If we join forces, our safety would improve considerably."

"Sorry, but I'm not interested." Yang Kai shook his head in refusal.

"Why not?" Lie Feng frowned.

"Because I'm human! I won't be treated any differently here." Yang Kai pointed at himself, then at Lie Feng. "You're Monster Race. If someone out there has a grudge against your kind and spots me together with you, they might decide to attack me too. I'd rather not invite trouble."

"Oh." Lie Feng looked taken aback, scratching his head. "That's a fair point. Since Brother Yang puts it that way, then forget it. I was being thoughtless."

Yang Kai dipped his chin slightly.

"Well then, good luck to you, Brother Yang. I'll be on my way!" Lie Feng showed no irritation at the rejection whatsoever. He gave a good-natured laugh, picked a direction at random, and sped away without a second thought.

He was nothing if not straightforward.

After Lie Feng had gone, Yang Kai carefully extended his Divine Sense to probe the surroundings.

A moment later, his expression changed abruptly, and he yanked it back at once.

Shan Qingluo's intelligence had been accurate—within the Blood Prison, it truly wasn't wise to release one's Divine Sense indiscriminately.

Though there were no restrictions or seals limiting the use of Divine Sense here, this ancient battlefield was riddled with countless Domain Vortices.

These Domain Vortices were the remnants left behind tens of thousands of years ago by battles between Void King Realm powerhouses. Some had already dissipated, but others had undergone a metamorphosis over the long river of time, becoming even more terrifying.

A Domain Vortex could swallow anything—including Divine Sense itself!

Yang Kai had just learned that lesson the hard way. Had he retracted his Divine Sense a fraction of a second later, he would have suffered a devastating blow. Even so, a sharp, needle-like pain throbbed through his mind.

It was a sign of damage to his Divine Sense, but with the Seven-Colored Warm Soul Lotus nourishing his Soul, Yang Kai didn't place too much weight on such minor harm.

"So I really am in the Blood Prison." Yang Kai glanced left and right, murmuring to himself.

Only the Blood Prison harbored such eerie Domain Vortices.

The previous Lord of Crimson Moon Territory had truly been a genius beyond compare—capable of forging a superlative spatial array that connected the Blood Prison to Emperor Star.

Unfortunately, the vast distance made precise positioning impossible, which was why Yang Kai had only detected Lie Feng nearby. As for the other Monster Race rising stars, there was no telling where they had been scattered.

Yang Kai was fairly confident in Shan Qingluo's strength. After all, she had inherited the source power of the Celestial Moon Demon Spider, and ordinary cultivators of the same realm were no match for her.

To top it off, he had given her the Thunder-Fire Seven Fowl Whip, which could dramatically boost her combat power.
