*********
This was supposed to be a quiet, secluded spot. Aside from the distant giggling and splashing of two women, there was no other sound.
When Yang Kai called out, even though his voice wasn't loud, it came as quite a surprise.
The moment his words fell, a violent splash erupted from that direction — the two women must have dove straight into the water. Nie Yong also seemed badly startled. He leaped backward with the agility of a rabbit, whipped his head around, and shot Yang Kai a vicious glare before activating his movement technique and retreating at full speed.
Before he left, his eyes were filled with unmistakable venom — he clearly hadn't expected Yang Kai to actually dare offend him.
"Coward!" Yang Kai sneered with contempt.
If he were Nie Yong, since his position was already exposed anyway, he might as well charge forward a few steps. Maybe he'd actually see something worth seeing, and the trip wouldn't be a waste.
Before long, Lan Chudie and Du Yishuang came walking back with wet, dripping hair. Du Yishuang puffed out her cheeks, a cold glint flickering in her eyes. Lan Chudie, on the other hand, regarded Yang Kai with a calm look and said softly, "Thank you."
"Don't mention it," Yang Kai replied flatly.
They stood up, about to head back, when a burst of incredibly dense Yuan Qi fluctuations suddenly surged from far away.
They turned their heads. In the distant sky, dazzling flashes of light flickered from time to time, and faint sounds of fighting and shouting drifted over. Then a furious beast roar pierced their ears with bone-shaking force.
All three of them went pale at once. That roar clearly belonged to a demon beast.
How could there be a demon beast in a place like this?
And right now, it sounded like quite a few people were fighting it.
With two swishes, Nie Yong and Zuo An — who had fled moments ago — came rushing back, their expressions grave as they stared toward the source of the commotion.
Du Yishuang shot Nie Yong a look filled with undisguised disgust and revulsion. Lan Chudie made no mention of what had just happened, acting as if nothing had occurred, and simply asked, "Zuo An, can you make anything out?"
Zuo An had excellent hearing. While everyone standing here could pick up some of the noise from that direction, none of them could hear as clearly as he could.
"A hundred people, at least!" Zuo An answered in a deep voice. "There's a crowd of over a hundred gathered over there, attacking a demon beast. Judging from the commotion it's making, I'd guess it's around sixth-rank."
Everyone's face changed at once. Sixth rank — that was equivalent to the Shenyou Realm!
The people who had entered this inheritance grotto were, at the very best, Zhenyuan Realm experts. How could they possibly stand against something at the Shenyou Realm? Were those hundred-plus people all fools? Why would they seek death so eagerly?
"That beast's roar sounds weak," Zuo An said, furrowing his brow. "It sounds like it only recently awakened. It probably has something to do with the seal on this place."
Understanding dawned on everyone.
The seal here had only been broken a few days ago. The demon beast here must have been sealed for countless years. Even though nobody knew why these beasts were still alive, they certainly couldn't perform at their original level.
No wonder those hundred-plus people dared to attack it.
"The beast is wounded!" Zuo An's brow twitched.
Sure enough, as soon as he spoke, a furious yet unwilling roar echoed from that direction. At the same time, the previous uproar suddenly fell silent — the hundred-plus people had gone completely still.
"What's going on?" Lan Chudie asked urgently.
"I don't know." Zuo An slowly shook his head. "Should we go take a look?"
Lan Chudie's delicate brows furrowed as she considered carefully. After a long moment, she turned to the other four. "What do you all think? Personally, I think we should go. If over a hundred people have gathered there, not all of them can be from the Zhenyuan and Separation-Union Realms — there must be fellow disciples from the Qi Movement Realm as well. If they can stay there, then so can we. But there will certainly be danger. Whether to go or not is your choice."
"Going. Absolutely going." Nie Yong was the first to nod. After that embarrassing situation, he no longer felt comfortable staying with this group of five, so naturally he wanted to find other fellow disciples.
"I'll go too," Zuo An said in a low voice.
Lan Chudie turned her gaze to Yang Kai and Du Yishuang. Both gave slight nods.
"Then let's go!"
The group quickly activated their movement techniques and rushed toward the source of the commotion.
After roughly an hour and a half, the five finally spotted disciples from the three sects — people other than their own party.
In the distance, two groups stood facing off against each other, each numbering around fifty or so, roughly equal. But the light in the jungle was too dim for the five to make out which factions these groups belonged to.
They moved a little farther. From the distance, a familiar voice rang out: "Fang Ziqi, that's all the Wind and Rain Tower has got? You think you can snatch something from me? You're still too green!"
The moment he heard that voice, Nie Yong's face lit up with joy. "It's Senior Brother Xie!"
