"Who are you?" Not just
Because at this moment, the person standing before Chu Feng was a man whose age appeared similar to Murong Xun's. He wore plain cloth garments and had refined features. Judging by appearance alone, he looked nothing like someone in his early thirties — more like a young man in his twenties.
What shocked everyone the most was this person's strength. He was, like Murong Xun, an eighth-rank Martial Lord. Moreover, his aura was extraordinarily dense, far surpassing others at the same cultivation level — in fact, no weaker than Murong Xun's own.
"I am
"So it really is a disciple of one of the Four Protectors." Murong Xun looked as though he had expected this, then continued, "Xuan Xiaochao, the Immortal Slaying Archipelago has no grudge against your Remnant Night Demon Sect, and this is our first time meeting. I hope you won't wade into these muddy waters."
"Because this boy crippled the son of our Archipelago's Second Immortal — his crimes are grave and his audacity boundless. If you protect him, you won't meet a good end." Murong Xun spoke with absolute confidence, his words laced with unmistakable threats and not an ounce of courtesy. It was clear he did not care for this Xuan Xiaochao.
Xuan Xiaochao did not respond. Instead, he turned his palm, and a strange fruit appeared in his hand. Then, with one hand forming a seal as his mind turned, countless golden runes emerged from his palm. The fruit was slowly refined, and along with the runes, it enveloped Chu Feng.
As the runes and the refined fruit merged into his body, Chu Feng felt warmth spread through him and the pain diminish greatly.
Everywhere — the severed meridians and bones, the pierced internal organs — everything was being healed. Xuan Xiaochao was actually treating his injuries.
Though only a brief moment had passed, Chu Feng had already regained the ability to move. It had to be said — this was nothing short of miraculous. Chu Feng could sense that Xuan Xiaochao's barrier technique was extraordinary; he was a gold-robed Spirit World Master. Moreover, the fruit he had just refined was extremely precious — a rare healing treasure.
"Why help me?" Chu Feng asked, because he and Xuan Xiaochao clearly did not know each other.
"I arrived a step too late to save your Spirit World creature, but I saw everything — how you were tortured. You have backbone, and you have potential. Don't give up on yourself. Stay alive — only by staying alive can you seek revenge." Xuan Xiaochao said calmly, then turned to Murong Xun with a slight smile:
"Murong Xun, your fiancée is quite something. How about lending her to me for a while?"
With a whoosh, even as he spoke, Xuan Xiaochao swept his wide sleeve and thrust his palm forward. Layer after layer of golden barriers shot out, forming a massive golden net that swept toward the three figures in the sky.
"You're courting death!" Murong Xun erupted in fury, unleashing the aura of his eighth-rank Martial Lord cultivation, and clashed with Xuan Xiaochao.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!..."
The two eighth-rank Martial Lords possessed tremendous strength. Their combat power far exceeded others at the same level — even ordinary ninth-rank Martial Lords might not be their match. Both were true geniuses of extraordinary ability.
They clashed fiercely, unleashing all manner of violent martial techniques in rapid succession and pushing them to their absolute limits. The space between them was thrown into utter darkness.
But Xuan Xiaochao deliberately protected Chu Feng, trying to buy him a chance to escape. So while he fought Murong Xun with everything he had, he also used the opportunity to block
Dragging his crippled body along, Chu Feng picked up his severed arm. Although he could use his masterful barrier technique to forge a new one, this severed arm was, after all, a part of his body. He felt it would make him more whole if he reattached it.
Now, gripping his severed arm, Chu Feng raised his head to gaze at Ya Fei, Murong Wan, and Murong Xun locked in fierce combat with Xuan Xiaochao high in the sky. Killing intent blazed in his eyes as he said coldly, "One day, I will make you all pay the most painful price for what you've done today."
After speaking, Chu Feng turned his gaze to Xuan Xiaochao. He could tell that although Xuan Xiaochao was formidable and appeared evenly matched with Murong Xun on the surface, he could faintly discern that Xuan Xiaochao was actually slightly weaker. If this continued, he would inevitably lose.
So, after murmuring a quiet "Thanks," Chu Feng wasted no more time and fled as fast as he could.
Chu Feng traveled far. Though he concealed his aura the entire way, he dared not let his guard down for even a moment. He knew Murong Xun possessed special methods to track him — otherwise, Murong Xun would not have found his hiding spot with
Chu Feng ran for several full hours before reaching the outer edge of the Sinful Canyon, where a vast lake lay. He had planned to jump in and wash his wounds.
But when he descended from the sky and saw his reflection in the mirror-like surface — his body covered in blood, utterly wretched — his heart sank.
At this moment, he felt no anger, only heartache. Because now that he could no longer sense
Eggy had been by Chu Feng's side day and night, having appeared inside his body not long after he was born. To Chu Feng, Eggy was not just a simple Spirit World creature — she was more like a bosom friend with whom he shared everything, an inseparable part of his very being.
Splash.
Suddenly, Chu Feng hovered in midair and sank to one knee upon the lake's surface. His eyes reddened and tears streamed down his face. His body trembled, and for the first time, he let out a choked sob.
It is said that a man does not shed tears lightly, only because the sorrow has not yet cut deep enough. At this moment, Chu Feng's sorrow had finally reached that depth.
Drop by drop, his tears fell — mixed with specks of fresh blood — into the lake below. They might not cause any great ripples, but they conveyed the heart-wrenching grief of Chu Feng, a man who feared nothing in heaven or earth.
"Eggy..." Chu Feng called her name softly. How he wished he could hear her respond. If only it were so.
"Stop crying already, Your Queen hasn't died yet." But then, to his utter surprise, Chu Feng heard Eggy's voice.
"Eggy, is that you?" In that instant, Chu Feng's heart soared with joy. He scrambled to his feet and looked all around — but soon, that elation was replaced by profound disappointment.
Because he found not only that Eggy's shadow was nowhere to be found around him, but deep in his heart, he still could not feel their connection. Eggy simply did not exist here — how could she be speaking to him? It seemed everything had been nothing more than a hallucination.
