"My Queen, it seems you've scared this little girl," Chu Feng said.
"Impossible! How could my beauty possibly scare her? It's clearly you who frightened her. Move back — with you here, I can't comfort her," the Queen said, waving her hand and gesturing for Chu Feng to move further away.
Hearing this, Chu Feng felt rather helpless but wasn't willing to go against the Queen's wishes, so he could only step back a fair distance.
However, Chu Feng didn't simply stand idle. Instead, he began examining the dead.
The more he observed, the more uneasy he became.
The inheritance that Song Xi had obtained should have been related to poison, yet these people hadn't died from poison. It looked more like someone had forcibly drained their physical bodies dry.
This manner of death was quite similar to those he had seen inside Yuanhai Divine Mountain.
Though Chu Xingdi had previously described the appearance of these deceased to Chu Feng, this had all occurred near Yuanhai Divine Mountain, and Chu Feng still felt it was connected to Song Xi.
But when Chu Feng actually got a good look at the dead, a doubt began to form in his mind. He suspected he might have been overthinking it — perhaps this demon wasn't Song Xi after all.
Setting aside the killing method itself, he couldn't sense even a trace of Song Xi's aura on any of the corpses.
Tap, tap, tap — Just then, Chu Feng heard a flurry of rapid footsteps. Looking up, he saw the little girl sprinting toward him at full speed, and she threw herself straight into his arms.
"..."
In that moment, Chu Feng was somewhat stunned.
"Sigh, I actually miscalculated. This little girl seems to like you more," the Queen said, catching up not long after. Her lips were pursed, and a hint of helplessness showed on that stunningly beautiful face.
"Little girl, you can't tell friend from foe — this guy is a huge pervert. And here you are, a pretty little thing, throwing yourself into his arms. You've got a death wish," the Queen said, pointing at the little girl.
But the little girl didn't so much as glance at the Queen. Instead, she clutched tightly onto the hem of Chu Feng's robe and buried her face deep in his chest.
"My Queen, did you manage to find out anything?" Chu Feng asked.
"Look at how she treats me — does it look like I managed to find out anything?" The Queen shot Chu Feng a sideways glance. "You try asking. I'm going back."
With that, the Queen slipped through the Spirit Gate and returned to the Spirit World.
And oddly enough, after the Queen left, the little girl slowly lifted her head.
"Little one, what's your name?" Chu Feng asked.
"Mm..."
The little girl seemed to want to speak but held back. In the end, she said nothing and buried her face in Chu Feng's chest once more.
She appeared to be quite dependent on Chu Feng — in other words, compared to the Queen, she seemed to trust him far more.
"How strange. Why does this little girl like you so much?" the Queen grumbled indignantly, and as she spoke, there was a faint hint of jealousy in her tone.
