The fog thickened rapidly, blanketing the entire sky and earth in short order.
Under these conditions, Chu Feng's visible range shrank ever smaller until, at last, all he could see before him was a vast expanse of white—he could no longer make out anything at all.
Fortunately, the situation did not persist for long. After a brief moment, the wall of white fog began to recede.
"What is that?"
As the fog withdrew, Chu Feng's gaze turned grave. He could sense that he was no longer inside the Life and Death Formation—he was somewhere else entirely.
Moreover, from the lingering fog in the distance, he spotted two silhouettes. However, because the mist had not fully dissipated, the figures were quite blurry, and even Chu Feng could not determine what the two of them looked like.
"May I ask, seniors—are you the creators of this Unknown Burial Ground?"
Chu Feng did not approach the pair. Instead, he first offered a respectful bow toward the two hazy silhouettes.
"Young man, come closer." An aged voice drifted over.
Only then did Chu Feng step forward. Once he drew near, a flicker of surprise surfaced in his eyes.
One of the two figures was an elderly man.
The old man wore a yellow robe of a rather peculiar design. It seemed to be made of leather, yet not quite—its surface appeared somewhat rough. But given Chu Feng's keen eye, he could tell this was no ordinary garment. It had to be a supreme treasure.
The elder wore a hood, though it did not conceal his face tightly. His features were clearly visible.
His complexion was dark, and his face bore few wrinkles, but his eyebrows and beard were a pale yellow that closely matched his robe. His beard was not particularly long, yet his eyebrows were remarkably so—easily over a meter in length.
Chu Feng made a preliminary judgment: this old man was the one who had summoned him.
As for how he reached that conclusion—it was because the other figure was not human.
It was a deer. Not a being with a human body and a deer's head, but an actual, complete deer.
Yet this very deer sat upright in a stone chair, playing a game of chess with the yellow-robed elder.
But neither the yellow-robed old man nor this deer was something Chu Feng could see through.
He knew that both of their levels of strength far surpassed his own. Most likely… they were the creators of this Unknown Burial Ground.
Scree— At that moment, a chess piece on the board between the two suddenly moved.
Chu Feng noticed, however, that neither of them had made a single move—it was as though the piece had moved on its own.
Still, Chu Feng did not dwell on it. At their level of power, killing someone with a mere thought was effortless, so manipulating a chess piece invisibly would naturally be child's play.
But with that single move, Chu Feng found himself involuntarily drawn to look at the board. He then realized that the game the two were playing was a remarkably simple one.
What surprised Chu Feng the most was that the yellow-robed elder had just made an exceedingly poor move.
This move had put the old man in a dead-end position. One more step from the deer, and it would win the game—win against the yellow-robed elder.
Yet the deer did not take action. The two of them sat there without any reaction whatsoever.
They simply stared at the chessboard, much like Chu Feng himself, watching the game as onlookers.
"Junior Chu Feng greets the seniors." Chu Feng bowed once more, exceedingly courteous.
"Chu Feng, is it?" the yellow-robed elder asked.
"That is correct."
Chu Feng was not surprised that the other party knew his name.
After all, outside the Unknown Burial Ground, Ying Mingchao and the others had called out his name more times than he could count. With this figure's vast powers, he would naturally have heard them—and would have long since learned Chu Feng's name.
"You're an interesting one. You didn't come here seeking treasure—you came to rescue your friend." The yellow-robed elder spoke again.
Yet from beginning to end, he had only ever stared at the chessboard, never once glancing at Chu Feng.
However, his words left Chu Feng quite startled—it felt as though everything about him had been laid bare before the other party, leaving him utterly exposed.
