"What the Ancient Elves eat really is something else." Chu Feng eyed the bowl of Black Lotus Glue and chuckled, but didn't take it.
"This isn't what we Ancient Elves eat."
"It's called Black Lotus Glue — a special substance produced by an ancient lethal poison. But I've heard it's actually edible. I just don't dare try it myself, so I was hoping you could taste-test it for me. See whether it's safe to eat, and whether it's any good." Xianyu Shi said with a smile, but there was something distinctly sinister behind it.
"You want to use me as a guinea pig?" Chu Feng asked.
"You don't have to eat it. But then you can forget about getting the Thousand-Leaf Sparrow Tail Flower," Xianyu Shi said.
"If I eat it, you'll give me the flower?" Chu Feng asked.
"Eat it, and you'll have a chance at the flower. Don't eat it, and you have absolutely zero chance," Xianyu Shi said.
Smack— Chu Feng reached out and took the bowl of Black Lotus Glue. He opened his mouth, tilted his head back, and slurped the sticky, viscous substance down in a single gulp.
"Hm?" Seeing Chu Feng drain the bowl in one go, Xianyu Shi froze for a moment. He hadn't expected Chu Feng to actually have the guts to consume something so dangerous.
He rose to his feet and carefully studied Chu Feng, waiting to see what kind of reaction he would have.
But after observing for a while and finding that Chu Feng showed absolutely no abnormalities, his frown deepened even further.
"How does it taste?" Xianyu Shi asked.
"Hard to say. If Young Master Xianyu is curious, you could always try it yourself," Chu Feng said with a smile.
"No need." Xianyu Shi offered a faint smile.
"That bastard." Egg was seething with rage at this point, gnashing her teeth — it was obvious that Xianyu Shi was deliberately making things difficult for Chu Feng.
"No matter. I'm actually curious to see what other tricks he has up his sleeve to make my life harder," Chu Feng said, entirely unconcerned.
Tap tap tap— Just then, two little girls came running in at full speed. The moment they stepped through the door, they called out for Brother Xianyu. Upon seeing the two girls, Xianyu Shi's face lit up with a warm smile — they clearly had a good relationship with him.
But Chu Feng could see through it at a glance. Xianyu Shi's smile was fake, put on for show. It meant he didn't genuinely like these two girls.
For someone with Xianyu Shi's arrogant and proud temperament, he would normally ignore even members of his own clan. Yet he was being this enthusiastic toward two little girls — and going to such lengths to fake it, at that. Chu Feng realized immediately that these two girls must hold a rather special status; otherwise Xianyu Shi would never stoop to fawning over a pair of little brats.
"You two little rascals — did you hear that Brother Xianyu was back and rush over to see him?" Xianyu Shi said warmly.
"We heard that Chu Feng was here, so we wanted to see Chu Feng," both girls said in unison.
"What?" The words wiped the smile right off Xianyu Shi's face, freezing it into a rigid mask. He shot Chu Feng a venomous glare. It was clear that what the girls had said had rubbed him the wrong way in a big way.
"Wow, you're Chu Feng? I've heard so much about you already! They say you're incredibly powerful — even Martial Emperors can't beat you!"
"I heard about it too! They say you even killed Clan Chief Ximen! But wasn't he a third-grade Martial Emperor? Can a ninth-grade Half Emperor really kill a third-grade Martial Emperor? How did you manage that?"
The two little girls swarmed around Chu Feng like he was some celebrity they'd always wanted to meet. Their big, innocent eyes shone with nothing but pure, unrestrained admiration.
