The purple-skirted woman's doubts did not prompt Chu Feng to argue. Instead, he swiftly set up a formation.
It was none other than a formation constructed using Lord Qin Jiu's inheritance.
"You… you actually mastered it?"
The woman was stunned at first — so stunned that her small mouth hung open and the pride in her beautiful eyes turned to a vacant stare.
But the rigid expression quickly melted away. The corners of her lips curled upward, a smile spread across her face, and then her laughter grew louder and louder until she was throwing her head back and howling at the sky.
"I didn't wait for nothing — truly, I didn't wait for nothing."
"One hour. He mastered it in just one hour!"
"Haha, I knew it — I said I would end up waiting for the most formidable inheritor, and I was actually right."
"I absolutely have to rub this in their faces."
The woman in the purple skirt laughed boisterously as she spoke.
Chu Feng simply stood off to the side, watching her in silence.
Suddenly, the woman seized Chu Feng by the shoulder. "Chu Feng, you truly are something else. You've made me very satisfied."
"Senior, since you're so pleased, might there be an additional reward?" Chu Feng asked with narrowed eyes.
"Oh my, so greedy, this little brat. You've already comprehended the inheritance and still aren't satisfied? Do I need to serve you personally or something?" the purple-skirted woman asked.
"That… I'd better pass on that. Senior Zi may be a peerless beauty, but I am, after all, an honorable gentleman."
Chu Feng laughed. He knew perfectly well she was joking.
Despite her haughty appearance at first glance, Chu Feng had discovered upon getting to know her that the woman in the purple skirt was, in fact, refreshingly blunt and cheerful in character.
So he had no qualms about bantering with her.
After all, Chu Feng himself was not someone bound by rigid etiquette.
He understood courtesy and he respected others, but he would not let rules and ceremonies hold him back.
"You're quite an amusing little fellow. I like you."
"Still, Lord Qin Jiu gave instructions not to interact too much with inheritors — otherwise I'd love to tag along with you for a stroll. I've got nothing left to do here anyway," the purple-skirted woman said.
"So, Senior, you don't have to remain stationed here? You're free to move about?" Chu Feng asked.
"Of course. I'm not a piece of wood — I'm a living person, naturally free to go wherever I please," the woman replied.
"Eggy, you actually guessed right. Lord Qin Jiu's inheritance really does run away."
Chu Feng still remembered how frustrated he had been at the inheritance site Lord Zhen Long had told him about, when he could not locate the inheritance no matter how hard he searched.
The Queen had comforted him, saying perhaps the inheritance had sprouted legs and run off.
At the time, Chu Feng had taken it as nothing more than a lighthearted joke meant to console him.
Who could have known it was actually true?
"Hehe, isn't this Queen simply amazing?"
Eggy grew smug.
"Amazing, amazing." Chu Feng praised her repeatedly.
At that moment, the purple-skirted woman spoke up again.
"However, Lord Qin Jiu instructed that I must remain on guard for a full duration before I can leave. So I've been waiting here since the ancient era up until now," she added.
"You've been here the entire time, Senior?" Chu Feng was surprised.
He had originally assumed this woman was the inheritor Lord Zhen Long had encountered and that she had subsequently relocated here. But from the sound of it, that was not the case at all.
"Naturally, I never left."
"My watch here was actually supposed to be over already, and I was just about to leave when I ran into you."
"Lord Qin Jiu's divination really is remarkably accurate — running into you at the exact moment my time was up," the woman said.
"Divination?"
"Lord Qin Jiu foresaw that someone would come here to receive the inheritance?" Chu Feng asked.
"Of course. Why else would I have been waiting here?"
"I deliberately chose this location — one that required a long wait — because I wanted to find a truly powerful inheritor."
"At first, when no suitable candidate showed up for the longest time, I actually regretted picking this place."
"But now? I can see my choice back then was absolutely the right one." The woman patted herself on the back.
"So there is more than just you serving as an inheritor guardian, Senior?" Chu Feng asked.
"That's right. Nine inheritance sites in total."
"Before you showed up, seven of them had already been claimed."
"And three of those were claimed by the younger generation of this era." As she said this, the woman in the purple skirt deliberately turned her gaze toward Chu Feng, her eyes glinting with meaning.
"What they obtained — was it a complete inheritance?" Chu Feng asked.
"Of course it was complete," she replied.
Chu Feng's heart stirred at this.
It was one thing for the older generation to have obtained it, but three juniors had also received Lord Qin Jiu's complete inheritance.
"Senior, would it be convenient for you to reveal who the other seven inheritors are?" Chu Feng asked, his curiosity piqued.
"That I cannot reveal," the woman said.
"Fair enough." Chu Feng smiled.
The woman in the purple skirt was one of Lord Qin Jiu's subordinates — she would surely obey his every command. The fact that she refused to disclose the inheritors' identities almost certainly meant Lord Qin Jiu had ordered her not to.
Under these circumstances, no amount of questioning would get her to talk, so there was no point in pressing further.
"In truth, you needn't worry about that. Though there are nine inheritance sites, they vary in difficulty. Mine was the hardest to comprehend."
"So even though the others also received complete inheritors from their respective sites, what you obtained is superior to theirs," the purple-skirted woman said.
