Chu Feng and Gu Mingyuan plunged into the Bright Mirror Sea almost simultaneously.
Once inside, Chu Feng could see violent surges of waves wreaking havoc along the seabed.
As expected, the Bright Mirror Sea lived up to its reputation.
Though it had looked perfectly tranquil from the outside, beneath the surface the waters were churning with peril on all sides.
The reason he called it perilous was that the moment Chu Feng entered, he could feel a bone-piercing cold.
It was as though icy blades were continuously sweeping across his body.
The deeper he went, the more intense that sensation became.
This oppressive force was what the waters of the Bright Mirror Sea imposed upon Chu Feng.
Fortunately, it was still tolerable, and his body was not sustaining any real damage.
What delighted Chu Feng the most, however, was that while his Heavenly Eyes had been completely useless outside the Bright Mirror Sea, the moment he sank beneath its surface, they finally began to function.
Chu Feng could see, deep within those waters, a deep blue glow.
Though faint, it was unmistakably peculiar.
Chu Feng concluded that this must be the legendary Heaven and Earth treasure — the Eye of the Deep Sea.
Whoosh—
Yet almost the instant Chu Feng pinpointed the Eye of the Deep Sea's location, Gu Mingyuan was already hurtling straight toward it.
It was clear she possessed her own means of observation, and she too had discovered where the Eye of the Deep Sea lay.
Uwahh—
But before Gu Mingyuan could get close, she let out a miserable scream.
Chu Feng could see a massive wave surging up from the depths below.
Its force was tremendous — it not only blasted Gu Mingyuan back, but a large spray of blood spilled from her body.
Gu Mingyuan was wounded, and the injury was no light matter.
"Senior!!!"
Chu Feng rushed to Gu Mingyuan's side, wanting to help treat her wounds.
But the moment he drew near, Gu Mingyuan moved again.
This time, a white light radiated from her body.
It was an immortal technique — one that could dramatically increase one's speed.
With the immortal technique unleashed, Gu Mingyuan transformed into a streak of white light and charged at the Eye of the Deep Sea once more.
Uwahh—
Yet once again, just as before, she had not gotten close before that enormous wave struck and sent her hurtling back.
"Damn it — what in the world is that thing? It's impossible to get near!"
Gu Mingyuan was now drenched in blood, deep gashes covering her entire body.
Yet her gaze remained fixed on the direction of the Eye of the Deep Sea.
Her eyes were brimming with fury and defiance.
"Senior, the oppressive force of this Bright Mirror Sea — it doesn't seem to vary much based on cultivation level, does it?" Chu Feng asked.
The reason he asked was that the gap between his cultivation and Gu Mingyuan's was immense.
If this oppressive force were simply a matter of raw power suppression, then the depth Gu Mingyuan occupied should have been far beyond what Chu Feng could endure.
Yet here they were, both in the same stretch of water, both bearing the same pressure — and that pressure appeared to be identical.
At the very least, the pain it inflicted was the same. Chu Feng was not suffering greater oppression simply because his cultivation was weaker than Gu Mingyuan's.
"That's right. The oppression of the Bright Mirror Sea is calibrated to each individual. Regardless of one's cultivation level, the oppressive force one endures is virtually the same," Gu Mingyuan said.
"But if everyone entering this place faces the same oppression, then why did Master Liangqiu say that anyone below the Martial Immortal realm would be torn to shreds upon entering the Bright Mirror Sea?"
"And why did Master Liangqiu's friend also say that Senior Chu Xuanzhengfa should not come in here?" Chu Feng pressed further.
"As cultivation rises, so does willpower. You should have noticed — this oppression inflicts pain, but your physical body is not actually being harmed."
"What it truly erodes is your willpower."
"The Bright Mirror Sea is mostly about tormenting one's resolve. If your willpower gives out, your soul will scatter."
